Minority Report: How Najib's Pahang will fare in PRU13

No walk in the park. Nanyang Siangpau says while the ruling Barisan Nasional will still take Pahang, which is PM Najib Razak's home state, during the 13th General Election, it won't be a walk in the park. And that's because the Chinese voters are set on giving their votes to the Opposition. Of all the Chinese-majority areas, only Bentong, which is held by MCA's Liow Tiong Lai, is expected to remain in BN's grip. And Nanyang's writer seems to think that the rare earth issue is going to cost BN more votes.

BN controls 38 of the 42 Parliamentary seats in Pahang.

Read Nanyang's report on the Future of Najib's home state.

  4. Helo Rocky, how are you? Have you got a lawyer to defend you.I hope you have appointed one to fight for you.

Opportunists like Yen Yen and Tiong Lai will lose but Umno will win the rest of Pahang because with a bank account of more than RM 1 BILLION, Umno can buy a lot of malays votes in Pahang. That is why Pakatan will never take over Pahang.
It will be the same in Sarawak where the richest man in Malaysia who is worth RM 4.6 BILLION will win the election for BN by spending huge sum of money.

  5. Thank you Snow White,
    I stand corrected.

  6. George Choo,

You are suggesting that the Malays can be bribed and have been bribed, that the Sarawakian Bumiputeras are the same like the Malays, bribe-able.

You are also saying that Cainis like you cannot be bribed.

It is people like you that made a lot of people so sick of Pakatan.

  9. Choo,

Bribery is not the issue in GE. people may take bribe and choose other party. 1 billion or 4.6 billion will not determine who will win GE. people choose party which they think better-of than other

    Rocky,

Lets assume every single Chinese votes goes to PR,(not even ONE) to BN, how many state seats will fall?
I believe, there are numerous reports, for any state to fall, PR must muster at least 50%-60% Malay votes.
So what do you have to say about those Malays voting for PR?
You seem to inject racial undertones to many of you articles.

Some Malays (like me!) will not vote for BN not because they like the opposition more! They're fed up with the leaders who are being too soft and accommodative to the racist demands of certain races. In short - No balls!

  12. I think status quo remains. PAS will get one and DAP will get two state seats.
Infact I think Fauziah of Keadilan will lose her Kuantan parliamentary seat.
She has been proven to mislead the people on the Lynas issue.

Jangan buang masa dgn pengundi cina yg memang totok sokong pembangkang. Jangan buang duit dengan bantuan sana sini untuk pengundi2 cina ini. Semua usaha itu nanti ibarat menyiram air di daun keladi.

Buat baik macam mana pun, mereka dah tetapkan hati batu menyokong pembangkang. Kebanyakan mereka tetap anti-BN (UMNO).

WALAU PUN PAHANG TU NEGERI PM.

  15. Bru,

The reality is that based on GE12 - it is difficult to tell real sentiment. Polling is not accurate as Malaysians have ingrained ntaure to tell a Pollster what they want to hear rather than tell the truth. Many thought it impossible for PR to win Selangor and the other states.
Voters since GE12 have become more fickle and can switch alliegance fairly quickly.
I also disagree with George Choo vehemently.
At every election BN/UMNO has spent a fortune trying to wrest back Kelantan and have failed miserably - considering PAS does not have a fortune to spend there.
Why UMNO has held places like Pahang and Johor is that they have a stronger team on the ground there in the past who are able to mobilize the vote through a strong ground game. PKR did well in Kedah and Penang and Perak in rural areas because they had a pretty good united team going out to meet the voters. Pakatan has learnt and have improved this part of their organisation. Parties still need to go out and meet voters and persuade them to go to the ballot box.
To say that Malays can be 'bought' more than Chinese is stupid.
One can only see how Chinese towkays have been bought by BN quite easily by looking at how people like Vincent Tan, Francis Yeoh and the rest of them on the KLSE are quite willing to kiss the PM's ass for contracts. Just look at who the West Coast Expressway was awarded to - it sure was not a Bumi company that got that 60 year concession.
Also look at Bersih and the other rallies arranged by the Opposition, such as Anwar Ibrahim's trial - it is mostly Malays that you see actually getting out in the streets.
At the end of the day ALL voters irrespective of race ask the same question when they go to the ballot box: what benefits do I gain for my family and I if I vote for a particular candidate? Will I be better off under this party or that.
The party that has the best answer to that wins.

As anak jati pahang who works in selangor, my observation says BN will win handsomely in both states..given the winnable candidates are put at the 'right' place.

  19. Penduduk Pahang kira-kira 70% Melayu, 20% cina dan 10% India dll. Atas kertas kelihatannya seperti kubu BN ( UMNO) tetapi hakikat sebenar belum tahu. Najib sendiri pun pernah hampir kalah di kawasan parlimen pesaka ayahandanya.Menteri Besarnaya sendiri pun cukup antik. Orang-orang tua yang lebih dari 60 tahun memanglah majoritinya penyokong UMNO. Tetapi yang muda-muda belum tahu.
