Good cops, bad cops and one that needs your help

Corp Khalid Che Rus. Walking the hills yesterday evening, a fellow walker who comments on my blog introduced himself to me and we got acquainted as we walked down the slope. We talked about politics and we talked about the fatal shooting of 15-year Aminurasyid by the police in the wee hours of ... He has a son about Aminurasyid age. "How do I explain to my 9-year old if it had happened to my son, how do I explain why the police opened fire at a 15-year old?"

I have a 15-year old son, too, and I am deeply affected by this tragedy. I have questions I want to ask the parents as well as the cops which I will not ask on my blog at this juncture because doing that will not help any.

I told my new friend that the PDRM has a good record of coming down hard against its own [read Shooting of 15 year old: The Circus Begins for past actions against errant/rotten police officers], so it's best to wait for the investigation into the incident to complete.

There are many good cops out there. I know many of them.

This morning, Mahaguru sent me an SMS asking me to help publicize the plight of a good cop who's rotting away after almost a year in coma following a hit-and-run incident. Meet Corporal 104747 Khalid Che Rus, 44, father of three:

Click here to watch Mahaguru's interview and visit Khalid at his home. The Malay Mail carried a report on his plight on March 29 this year, Cops family in dire straits after hit-and-run but according to Mahaguru, Corp Khalid's situation remained dire.

Pakatan Rakyat only wants power and see Musa Hasan sacked.

They dont care for anything they claim concern for.

Tian Chua did killed a soldier. DAP Sekincan injured an UiTM student.

    What untuk rakyat?

  5. My deepest sympathies for Corporal Khalid Che Rus and his family.

Dato' maybe set up a fund by Malay Mail for Malaysians to contribute to the families of Policemen/women who died or were seriously injured in the line of duty. This would be a lot better then the crap dished in the Penang DUN yesterday when DAP Chief Minister Guan Eng disparage the Police, Government institution and the Federal Government without a care in the world.

The father and son DAP dictatorial dynasty of Kit Siang and Guan Eng should arrange a visit by the whole DAP exco members to see the plight of this hit and run accident victim to show they care. I guess it would not happen, Che Rus is a police officer so he ain't worth it to score political points for the DAP.

Of course you won't have Latheefa Koya, Surendran or Karpal Singh volunteering and falling all over themselves to demand justice for this poor Police officer as well. Sigh.

Dah kalau dah salah tu bayar age saman. Apa pasal nak tumbuk rusuk dan sogok polis beb? Lepas tu salahkan diorang ambik rasuah.

  8. I have not the slightest doubt that the majority of policemen in M'sia are decent, hardworking and deserving of our respect for being in the front line, much of which puts their own lives at risk, daily.

Equally, I'm convinced that there is a small core of rogue elements in PDRM and other law enforcement agencies such as MACC which needs weeding out pronto and that much of this rotteness is to be found at the highest echelons of PDRM and MACC.

The recent 2 trials of top cop Ramli Yusuff (found not gulity) where the presiding judge said the iGP's testimony was not to be believed and the testimony of an MACC officer in Ramli's cases as well as in lawyer Rosli Dahlan's ongoing trial bespeaks of much to worry about in our law enforcement agencies!

In the recent case of the police shooting death of 14 year-old Aminulrasyid, ALL will accept without qualification that the cops could not have known a mere unlicensed boy was driving the car or that he was unarmed.

But that does not mean we will readily accept that shooting him dead was the proper police response and was only done after they had taken sufficient reasonable steps to secure a peaceful arrest. Especially where the victim had not commited any violent or capital crime himself!

What bothers me most is the Selangor top cop's immediate statement that:

    1. Aminul was a criminal. This was patently false!!

    2. A lone cop had fired 4 bullets one of which hit Aminul in the back of the head when the cop was supposedly aiming at the car tyres. The difference in height is too great for it to be a matter of chance.

It transpires now there were 2 police patrol cars, 5 cops and some 15-20 shots were fired!!

    3. A machete was found in the car boot. How did that make Aminul dangerous if he was still in the car, had driven into the dead end road where his house was situated and the car tyres had been blown out?

    4. Contradictory version of events from Aminul's friend Omar his father is also a cop) in the car and from a 3rd witness. How did Omar, another 14 year-old, escape the clutches of 5 experienced cops?

    5. There was a 6km car chase. The distance from the Fed Highway roubdabout to Aminuls' house in S11 Shah Aim is just about 3 km. Go take a drive and check it out for yourselves.

There appears to be a whiff of a cover up here that we will allow at our own peril.

Aminul was in the full flower of youth with every expectation of a good and successful life all ahead of him. We cannot say he was not to some extent responsible for his premature death.

But clearly, he did not deserve to be shot dead by the law!!

the more the police trying to cover up the more public hate the police.

don't blame it on the public to start hating the police, blame it on the police force on the statements they release to the medias and their role in politics

In Khalid case, the public have sympathy for where he is now
but equally the public will need accountability for all the shootings that happened. And the police force need to HELP the public to bring that accountability, public confidence will be restored after.

I am amazed that the nationalist groups would chant slogans when they think other races rob their land/money/right but keep mum when live of their own kind being taken away on such a vague account.

Tian Chua killed a soldier? - bring him to court for negligence then. There are laws to prosecute him if he is at the wrong.

While I am at it I might as well say this, I am all for the sadness of a life being taken away at a tender age and the incident must not be allowed to be politicised, however let this be a lesson to other parents not to allow their 15 year old underage children driving without a license at a wee hour of the morning. In North America such parents would have been charged in court!

The Police should not be blamed for shooting a runnaway suspect.

In the first place, why was the victim running away from the patrol cars?

And no one has checked the boy's background. He is not a bright student as thought, otherwise he would have been in a better graded classroom, not the lowest grade. Go check with his class mates and see what opinion they have of him in school.

In this case, the Police were only doing their job.

There are good commenters, and there are a lot more commenters like this joker who said Tian Chua killed a motorist (I think this idiot is an ardent fan of Utusan Malaysia and New Shit Times). Of course, there are good journalists, and a preponderance of bad journalists (as usual we have to talk to Utusan Malaysia to check the veracity of this statement).
Tunggu ....

    To Donplaypuk,
let's put it straight here, when the policeman ask you "jangan lari" then you stop. If you lari and ram into other or drive like a drunken person then they have to take action to stop the car.
You definately never hold a gun before. When you are aiming a moving car to shot the tyre then you have to aim higher because the car is moving. When you shoot then the bullet tend to hit the tyre. Accident happen if the front car brake or slow down his car, so the bullet hit high.
You don't know the age of the driver if you don't check their I/C and what's more at night. There is no excuse if you run because the policemen got to make quick decision to stop you from ramming other cars or before more people get hurts.
Children below is still a minor and the parents got the responsibility to watch them. Why blame other if you can't perform your role. I support the policeman action.
The parent and the car owner should be charge.

By you better go play pukis. Keep reading your nonsense everywhere but with substance.

    Dear Datok

Your new friend is a stupid father , no brain and he does not know how to use his mind to think rationally. He needs others to think for him self. He is a character who is good of pointing fingers at others. In the case of fatal shooting of Aminul by the Police men, He does not need to go far to crack his head. An initial and pertinent question that he should ask himself is , who went out to look for the trouble , AMINUL who is an underage and driving without valid driving license or the policemen who are on crime prevention round and executing their duties to ensure every body sleeps peacefully in the house at that wee house. Is Aminul driving with the permission of the owner of the car or was it stolen by the deceased.

It is common to people called "human" to blame others but not blaming them self. It is Worse to those people who only knows how to degrade others.

I would like to call upon Tan Sri Musa Hassan not to over react in this issue. It is one of those occupational hazard.

I have about the same incident before, four patrol cars cornered me, and the cops already pointing out their guns toward me. First thing I did was putting up my hands and lay flat on ground, which gave no reason for them to shoot me and that probably saved my life. End up that they mistaken me for some bloke who just stole a superbike which look the same as mine and I rode so fast that I didn't realised they were chasing me and ignoring their warning to stop. Well, some kids may not be so smart afterall, and we needs to educate them when handling such matters with our policeman.

Being 16 , driving a van is not easy and while negotiating a small lane , he by accident side crashed another car . Two of my friends opened up the side van door and jumped out running while shouting ' Dont tell my mum in with you ok ! '

That few second after the crash was none of life scariest moment. My friend in the wheel was staring my face , giving that ' Lets speed away from here'. Sanity came luckily , instantly for me .
'Jeff , Everyone in this lane is looking at us , your dad's plate number probably has been written down for a police report' . He paused . We quietly get out from the car . The car owner was came to us . Of course he wasnt pleased . After 30 minutes lectures,he allow us to call Jeff's dad to pick us up. Another round of lecture in the car for both of us and grounded for 3 months for me. But ... we were still safe from more troubles.

The idea is controlling our kids does not make us less cool but a more responsible parents.

To all commenters: just remember this orchestra of human rights agenda (konon2) is actually

an ambitious attempt to turn Malaysia into a republic

where the non-malays like HI, LK, LKS, LGE, KS, GDS, TC will want to govern this great and blessed nation

then the essence of Malayness will evaporate into a 2nd chinapork fully supported by the chinapek-wannabes (dpp & caste)

Ths cost of the advertisment, is said to be a whopping RM10mil!
The main copy of the advertisment reads:

  60. AA!
Yes !Yes !It happened! Tragic but it happened!
Ours is not a perfect society.
Musa & Khalid should not reacted in such a childish manner.
I too have interacted with so many cops of all ranks & ages - good people but under so much of constraints.
My simple question is this: boys will be boys - but did not the parents/parent have a sense of control over the kids?
Did not the kids have the sense to have stopped when the car was grazed & face the music - rather than run & get shot at?
We all , including Musa & Khalid must , must learn quickly the faults that are inherent in every system & body of persons , with the power to shoot to kill!
In my neighbourhood there are young , and I mean some 23ish walking around armed to the teeth & dressed like storm troopers!
But when to talk to them, man the soap is still around their ears. But they are trying to do a job.
We have to also not spare the rod as for as our kids are concerned.
I remember when I was twelve & cycling around my neighbourhood without back or front lights and I was chased by two cops , I hid behind trees!
When I went home , my old man literally lifted me & my bicycle & me into his car & took me to the police station to face the music!
Please all of us - stop this spewing of hate & venom at each other & attempt to reach out to all concerned & learn lessons from the tragedy!
    Godspeed.
    Mr.M

A tragic case. Having had family members who were disabled, I can feel the pain. I hope the police will somehow find the person behind the hit and run.

In the interim, I want to bring your attention to another hit but unable to run. This victim is termed lawyer lawyer juara rakyat. His name is Karpal Singh. His perpetrator was not lucky enough to drive away. He was caught at the scene and alleged to be intoxicated. Have we heard a squeek from the police about progress in investigation and charging the individual who hit Karpal from the back?

Rocky, you still wonder why people have no respect and come down hard on the police? Perpetrator caught, scene of accident intact but police incapable of charging the individual.

Instead you and your UMNO buddies want to yak about Tian Chua who wasn't even driving. Trying to turn it into a racial issue.

Hopefully the police can serve justice in both cases. Nevertheless, I doubt Karpal will be holding his breath.

I have notice ,from conversation that the chinese will talk about the corruption of the government but will have no problem in bribing their way out of a ticket or a problem, infact blaming the cops for taking the money,instead.(oxymoron?).

but again ,this is Malaysia.where only the extremists are the indians and malays. The chineses apparently ,are the saviours of fairplay, justice, democracy and equality.God forbid, if you accuse them of discrimination and racism,IT'S ALL LIARS!NO!NO!NO! we do no such things,we are angels among you !just like in the private sector, the chinese have never discriminate against the malays and indians.

Here is an honest opinion,I have a bit of respect for Hindarf and Perkasa. These guys have put all of their cards on the table. We know the faces,we know their demands,we know their mindset.these people are not dangerous.

But to a certain race, the Malays and the Indians will always the be the extremist.

Reality here is,the most dangerous people in this country, are the one who hides behind the shadows.

    Salam bru,

As an ex police reserve volunteer, I do not wish to be branded as a police sympathiser on the current public debate as a result of the accidental death of 15 year old Aminulrasyid Amzah.

I agreed that there are good cops and bad ones who had brought discredit to PDRM.In no uncertain terms, IGP Musa Hassan has the right to defend his cops that were being accused of mishandling the victim who had lost his youthful life during the high speed car chased drama.

Based on my personal living experience in the states, Washington and New York, the police patrols are at liberty to shoot all suspected criminals and those reckless drivers and traffic offenders who are deemed to post danger to others in public.

The provision of the penal code will protect the accused until it's proven guilty by the court of laws.Victims are given their constitutional rights to engage in their defense in absolute transparency for a fair trial in courts.

In Malaysia we are so obsessed with the setting up of Commissions, Inquiry, etc and in the process of investigations, the issue is often being politicised by both sides of the political divide for their own agenda. The interference by politicians will only bring injustice to the accused as well as the victims and their family. We should allow the law to take its course without duress and prejudice in the most civilised legal proceedings.

In the case of the unfortunate incident that had caused a young and precious life, the public should examine the facts of the case whereby the police patrol is duty bound to execute public order, on suspicion of intended criminals and traffic offenders in order to safeguard social security for our citizens.

The police are human too and they will not abuse their authority, if we ourselves are civic security conscious and obey the enforced police regulations and laws at all times.Malaysia is not a police state and no police officer on duty is bound to shoot and kill innocent people in the streets.

We should also examine the social responsibility of parenting in order to ensure that our children do not take the risk of committing criminal or traffic offences when they are still minor under the law. The victim Aminulrasyid was only reported to be about 15 years old and had driven the car illegally without a driving licence.

Why was he and his other juvenile friend out in the street and driving at 2 o'clock in the morning without the knowledge of their parents or family members?

Based on factual circumstances and subsequent investigations, we conclude that the victim was compelled to drive recklessly at high speed out of fear, in order to avoid police intervention and possible arrest.

The investigation panel set up by the Home Ministry will have to submit its report based on evidence of the case and also to establish the fact of the shooting by the cops. In the meantime, the cops who were responsible in the case should be suspended from duty and not reassign for desk job.

Let us wait for the final outcome of the investigation panel and all parties should cease to justify their course of action, that may prejudice the trial of the high profile case being highlighted in the media and alternative internet media.

Most people (yes, at least 51% of the world population... but I suspect a lot more than that) are not fit to be parents.

There should be a permit to bear children. Want to get married? Must have permit/certificate. Must have a driver's licence & insurance to operate a motor vehicle, land title to own property, council's approval & CF to construct and occupy a building, business licence to operate a busines, etc, etc... licence this, permit that, bla bla bla...

So, there should be a ruling on making kids and the number of kids a couple can make. A kid can grow up to be more dangerous than any inanimate object...

We always hear of that "the poor breeds" thing. It's true everywhere in the world. Over here, the poor make children like nobody's business where their sons grow up to be crooks (most of the time) and many of the daughters became school sluts...

Firstly..the corruptions by UMNO B is by the billions stole from Malaysians. Get that clearly understood..that all who voted against UMNO B are to stop UMNO B have the power to steal our money...by the billions.
Bribing the cops for this and that..does not hurt anyone...or money stolen from tax payers..and the individuals are using his/her own money....and this is found all over the world.
You notice UMNO B have announced stiff penalties to the giver and taker of this kind of corruptions.
The UMNO B crooks are such smart ass crooks...can steal by the billions with the art and craft...like saying they are commissions and overpriced tenders..are all legal.
Yes..these crooks are now laying down traps for men on the street to be arrested for corruptions.
Where can you ever get smarter crooks than UMNO B fellas?
Twist and turn as much as they want.
Malaysians are sick of these double headed snake and hypocrites....real smart with their snaky characters...just because...they are governing and can do or talk as they like.
But in all honesty...the rule to arrest small time corrupted crooks are good too.
I guess Najib have no choice..but to show how clean and serious he is...far far away from the truth about him..but he mus keep on acting to fool as many Malaysians a possible.

The victim bled for 1 and half hours before the ambulance came.

Meanwhile Tian Chua who was actually RUSHING to give a ceramah scooted off to his designation, LATE.

His RUSH could have resulted in his driver hitting the poor young man.

Apasal polis tu tak tangkap perasuah tu? 2 x 5? Baik buang je uniform tu, tak payah tunggu si Musang tu "pull them off the streets." Piagam polis kan dah jahanam? Si Musang, Haniff Omar dan pemegang pangkat-pangkat tinggi polis kan kaya-raya? Harta memang sampai puluhan juta, kalau pergi umrah pun naik Business class. Takkan polis lumpuh sorang pun tak bantu? Why do we need the police ?
They kill more people than criminals yearly,
the IGP threatened to pull the cops off the street after the killing and now pretends to be holding an enquiry. He is the IGP and should lead by example. He must have given his cops the instructions directly or indirectly that dead man don't tell 'the' truth so have those who will tell or talk killed. No matter how many enquires are held the truths will never appear and he knows and practices that.
Also the way things are what is the difference if we have cops on the street or not. In fact we
will be better off if we have the police force taken off the street and cut the police force by 90%. This way the resources can be used in other ways and less men will die in police custody.
