And the winners are ...

Shahrizat Jalil is new Wanita chief. She garnered 507 votes for a convincing victory against Rafidah Aziz, who managed just 280.

So far so good.

updates
10:15 NST is carrying the results coverage "live" here.

10 minutes later: Mukhriz won by 12 votes. Unofficial.
10:52 -- Someone said it's KJ by 25 votes?!

[Rocky's notes: This is one of the reasons why I am so supportive of the teaching of Maths in English. Susah sangat nak kira!]

11.15: 25/3 Umno Youth polls: Results not out yet, but Khairy Jamaluddin seen entering hall where he was hugged and congratulated by his supporters/STAR

11.29pm: Khairy Jamaluddin is Umno Youth leader, Ladies and Gentlemen.

[My final notes: Razali Ibrahim will be his deputy. He beat Reezal, KJ's running mate. Shows that KJ won because his detractors in Pemuda Umno were split between Khir Toyo and Mukhriz Mahathir.]

Good night Malaysia, don't have nightmares.

Rafidah should have taken heed that the tide of change was irreversible...either she shipped out or risked being dumped. She should go look after her AP business now, fulltime.

Shahrizat better be a strong and firm leader. No need to be too nice and play your PR game to the hilt. Call a keris a keris if you have too.
Her job is not just to convince the makcik type wanita but also the young and restless.
    Good Luck and God Bless!

Rafidah was probably the best option for our country. She made tonnes of contribution to the country. Unfortunately, umno chose Sharizat who lost her own constituency. Umno is definitely going down. Probably, down the country too. I can see how melayu these days are pretty much sesat like one of the comments here.

    MS,

Whatever said and done about Rafidah, she has served the country well during her tenure as the Minister of Int'l Trade. Ask anyone who have followed her during trade missions abroad.

The AP episode was a slight blemish in an otherwise praiseworthy work in the service of the nation.

I think she deserve a bit of respect from us all.

    Rocky,

tahniah la kat sharizat. aku harap dia akan buat kerja. dia memang terror berpolitik tapi part buat kerja aku tak pasti. maybe delivery system tak bagus, tapi kementerian wanita dah capai apa2 yg obvious? org miskin masih perlukan BersamaMU utk dapat bantuan. Sekarang Ng Yen2 jaga ministry tu, dua kali lima jugak.

then, aku nak komen sikit pasal budak2 puteri umno..aku tengah tengok tv ni..dia orang dok keriau bila exco naik pentas tu, apa, ingat menang akedemi fantasia ke? kalau org cakap mcm gila kuasa, marah pulak kot? tapi sendiri mau ingat la.

rocky, rafidah might looked like "the bad guy" but she is a good worker and she has done a lot for our country. I really hoped she would win again, becoz of her ability to handle her ministry and portfolio well...but she lost. This is politics in the Wanita wing anyway. Time to move on perhaps.

What can you expect for Malaysian women from Umno wanita when all you have to choose from are two greedy geese.

Both Rafidah and Shahrizat should be nominated for the best RTM "lakunan" awards for the role of representing women in our country.

Like their male corrupt counterparts, they have played the starring role to remain silent when women are abused, even in parliament.

They know to play the role of listening, and yet like blood lusty barracudas their goal is to feed on ill-gotten spoils and to be fattened by the benefits.

Over the past decade women have brought up various legitimate issues of abuse, harassment, discrimination and marginalization. Yet all these over-fed matrons did were to make women look like the aggressor and sinner.

Instead of acting they have accused women to be perpetrators who lead and cause men to rape and abuse them. These leaders are like wolves elected to "protect" lambs. They are lazy gluttons of swing, utterly shameless and profane in their pretense.

Who will hear the cries of the oppressed Muslim women who are given the run around in custody issues and other crucial issues on development? Who is going to ensure the rights of non-Muslim women and when they face issues such as forced conversions and abduction?

Who will heed the call to redress the injustices against women in the marketplace when polices supposedly to benefit them are a noose around their necks? Certainly not Sharizat.

It will take more than a giant poster and party kompang parade to convince anyone.

And when she was asked why the people voted her out on March 8th, she has the audacity to state that it was focusing on women's issues instead of party issues? Is she smokin hasish?

My prayer is for true leaders to emerge. After all is said and done a nation will be judged by how it treats its women, children and the elderly. Lets vote out the impotent geese!

As I was watching the announcement of UMNO Chief of Youth, I felt this is one of the most corrupted youth club in the world.

My grandma use to tell me,you can judge a person character by their looks (air muka) and I can surely bet that except for the likes of Mukhriz Mahathir and a handful, everyone there looks so hungry for money.

Sad, so sad that KJ won. A man with no substance and so into himself. Even his opening remarks was about him. He has no vision and this is reflected in his empty speech - just like his father-in-law. Strings of words/noise. His success is his alone and in no way he can garner any good to UMNO.

Allah did not answer Najib's prayer's because his saf will be filled with incompetent elected candidate.

Sharizat, has done nothing for the women and children in the country. She had her chance before. Bearing in mind, visiting children and bearing gifts or one off visit to homes are not contributions. As usual, Sharizat is all about be nice and proper, matching hanbags, shoes and hair colour.

Pemuda UMNO, Wanita UMNO and Puteri is no longer relevant to UMNO.

Rocky, we need a change - another party that will be filled with people that would serve the people. The party must be brave enough to call a spade and spade and not be swayed by money. You are a man of principle, you give your views fair and just, supported PR when you believed in them and commented on them when you saw they were no different.

Goodnite, I hope I won't have nightmares. Just dream for a better country because I will never have that for a long long time.

What if a foreign country has concrete evidence of Najib's involvement in certain acts of crime which he is currently very much suspected of committing? Just a simple photograph and Najib will easily be compromised. Another country can easily use this to blackmail Najib and take advantage of Malaysia.

As an independent observer I think Sharizat's victory was expected. Rafidah should not have contested in the first place. The grassroots wanted her to leave early like Pak Lah but she didnt want to listen.

However, Sharizat has a tough task ahead. Interesting to see if najib would give her a cabinet post. I feel she should not. She shd just concentrate on Wanita.

Khairy's win was as I expected but not many did. It is a good result for Umno contrary to majority's believe. It provides a good balance. Interesting to see how Najib would work with his Ketua Pemuda. Having Mukriz as ketua pemuda would practically make him a lame duck as he would be dictated by najib.

I thought his victory speech was good although it was much playing to the gallery. I liked the part when he advised delegates to respect the other component parties of BN.

Whoever who thinks KJ is the only one the three dishing the cash must be sadly mistaken. Ask the UMNO delegates and the question of size of remuneration separates the candidates.

Delegates have secret ballot votes which enable them to take money from anyone and still vote according to their conscience.

The fact that Mukriz won the most nominations but lost indicates that he had support at nominations because the anti KJ sentiment was strong and everyone voted with the flow as opposed to their own views. What matters at the end of the day is how people vote at the secret ballot. If KJ is that bad, I doubt he would have won.

UMNO should eliminate the quota system and then we will who wins hands down.

Terkejut dengar bunyi orang sorak-sorak malam tadi. Ingat ada game bola. Tapi rupa-rupanya cerita kelakar macam zaman dulu-dulu - macam cerita Pak Kaduk...... Menang sorak, kampung tergadai

Bapak Mertua aku salah sorang perwakilan UMNO tahun ni. Dia dah pergi Mekah tunai haji dah 4 kali.

What matters now is that given the mandate, these leaders must prove their mettle. They should take control of the steering wheel and drive the party in the right direction, not a crash barrier.

Congratulations to the winners and losers should take it in stride, work as a team and bring solidarity back for a better future.

Mukhriz, well, he seems a likeable person and all, but he just hasn't even got the ability to capture public imagination on his own - one of the critical attributes of a leader. Many of the UMNO Youth delegates who voted for Khairy did not fulfill the trust given to them from their Division who wanted Mukriz. As part of UMNO's reform, the election process must change to reflect the majority of grass root's wishes.

Najib must be seen to walk the talk from the very beginning of his UMNO Presidentship and Prime Ministership. Therefore as a person found Guilty of money politics, Khairy should NOT be given any post in the new Najib Cabinet if the new administration is serious in eradicating money politics.

This one is for Khir Toyo.

You did not make it in the UMNO youth elections.

Now, sit back and ask yourself about how your wife manged BAKIS and whether that was the way to capitalise on the trust mandated to you and your party during the time you were in power.

Not too late now - be honest and ask if you and your family were above GOD and the law to use public funds in the way it was reported in the media.

Try and see how you can make amends for these situations and why you had such behaviour when in power, as well as the use of public funds for very 'narrow' needs that did not benefit the rakyat.

Why did you not bother about the needs of the non-Malays but left it to MIC and MCA, Gerakan?

How can you call yourself then (at that time) that you were the leader of all citizens in Selangor when your wife and her group blatantly used public funds in the way it has been exposed in the media.

You still looking for reasons why BN lost in Selangor?

The latest revelations about BALKIS is just the tip of the iceberg. More will surely come. It will overshadow the cows, cars, and the semi-nude photos.

Come on now, try and tell us again why we should see you as a 'service above self' person and why you deserve a second chance?

Why do we have to accept that Selangor is the most developed state of Malaysia?

What development? The way BALKIS functioned - for the upliftment of living standards of the rakyat in Selangor?

UMNO was never intended to be a party for people like you and the corrupted ones. But why do you guys become so corrupt when you come to power?

Its not in the party constitution that you have to transform like this. Yet you sold out the bumis in Selangor, especially the simple folks who mean no harm to others and who could live peacefully with other ethnic groups for many years.

If you think no action will be taken against you and BALKIS members, please remember that you cannot escape when you face GOD finally.

    Congratulations to Khairy J.

He once said that the teaching of Maths and Science in English for school children should start in the Secondary level and not during the primary years.

I hope he stood by this and fight for it.

UMNO punya cara pemilihan sendiri pun dah tak betul.

    Hi Rocky,

Know that from day one that you are on losing side. Tun M is irrelevant to Malaysia. He is being treated the same way he treated Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Hussein Onn. History repeat itself. His son paying the price for the method introduced by Tun in UMNO. Tun M is being made to pay and see whatever damages he has done to UMNO and also Malaysia. Long life Tun M.

Infact, the result do not really imagine of Malaysian's choice. My hope, this result should be reflected in Malaysian Cabinet soon. Hoping, our new prime minister would think wisely for the best of rakyat. Congratulations kpd calon Puteri & Shahrizat. Not forgettable, Rafidah. At least, she did the best to country as well.

I just cannot imagine the even greater emotions these same people would have displayed hearing of rape or paedophile cases or the story of Altantuya and of all the other cases of landowners finding themselves not the owners anymore because of shenanigans and all these somehow allegedly connected to their UMNO leaders!

I had the opportunity of viewing a clip of Khairy Jamaluddin campaigning in Kelantan for UMNO/BN in the last general election (on YouTube) where he was publicly mocking Tok Guru Nik Aziz, a person I greatly revere.

KJ strikes me as someone who is arrogant, shallow and one who will do great disservice to Islam and Malaysians in general.

We all deserve better but tragically rhetoric seems to prevail over substance nowadays and KJ’s appointment as UMNO Youth Leader appears to affirm that position.

In the hope for a better Malaysia.

    KJ WON? Sh*t!

Yes, I will change my party to PAS only if PAS is OUT of Pakatan Rakyat. If not, better go for BEBAS. Why? 'cos PAS is lembik and has low moral values, becoming more and more corrupted, not really a Muslim party as they condone free sex and insult the Sultan, giving many freehold land to the other side in Perak, easily MANIPULATED by DAP, giving permission to use "Allah" etc .....If PAS wants me to go to them, then they have to change and go back to their roots and fundamentals on why they were founded, to stop insulting and degrading fellow Muslims in UMNO (not that I love UMNO)....if not, I am not interested ....

Why is everyone against KJ? Apa salah KJ sampai semua komen negative tentangnya? I rasa KJ lebih charismatic and berdaya jika dibandingkan dengan Mukhriz. Diam saja!
Khir Toyo mungkin nampak pandai bercakap tapi semuanya kelentong belaka. Tengok saja siasatan DUN Selangor tentang BALKIS. Kata orang dia pandai, tapi tak tengok muka sendiri. Nak komplen pasal lembu pakai duit GLC S'gor tapi tengok, dia lagi pandai duit GLC. sampai nak tengok anak sendiri di Australia dan belikan dia souvenir pun pakai duit rakyat! Malu sungguh.
Tanyalah diri sendiri. Jangan asyik kata rasuah. Kita semua tahu, semua calon pun terlibat. So, it's fair & square.

    Bro,

Reading these comments amuses me. Really, such resolute stands taken never to again vote Umno, and to forever demonise Khairy.

    Ya...right.

Memang Melayu Mudah Lupa, bukan Tun?

Remember how Tun M was vilified so much, and now, he is dubbed the saviour. Bring him back, now scream the very same detractors who had just a few years ago screamed for his Maha-Zalim head.

My bet is on KJ being relevant - his early days' exploits to become secondary - in the years to come.
I think he has the brains and the balls, but he needs to stop being too greedy.

And that means he should stop sucking money for his cronies too. Kali ke, Patrick ke, Maya Karin ke...

He has enough money to last five lifetimes.

Cukup lah...it's time to show the world the Khairy Jamaluddin Yang Berkhidmat untuk Rakyat.

In any case, if Najib carries out his promise, Khairy might not even be there next year when there are more delegates.

There are already signs last night that not all Umno Youth members like him. There was a protest outside the hall...of course, the MSM did not report this lah....

So, Khairy needs to buck up. If he loses next year, I can just imagine the MACC people moving in....
