Al-fatihah for Samani

Samani Mohd Amin, who was detained under the ISA in 1976 with the late Pak Samad, died last night. He was 78.

Samani was with The Star when I joined the paper as a rookie in 1985 but I never knew the man well. Nuraina A. Samad knows him better than I do. They spoke on the phone just on Monday, here.

    Rocky,

The Barisan Rakyat bloggers are reporting about the Kuala Terengganu by-election.

How come you are not doing a report as the Barisan Nasional blogger, Rocky? We need some balance and view from both sides.

Go Rocky go, do it for us Barisan Nasional supporters!

    Al-Fatihah.
Like Nuraina,I know Arwah Pak Samani well too. He was one of the most jovial editors at Berita Harian, and very professional, when I first joined the NST as an intern and subsequently, a cadet journalist in 1976. Alas, it wasn't long before he was arrested together with Arwah Pak Samad for supposedly "communist leanings". Even so, he never lost his sparkle after his release. My regret is that we never stayed in touch. This is my lesson to myself!
May Allah bless his soul. To his family, my deepest condolence.
    Thanks Rocky.
