Rafidah vs Shahrizat, confirmed

update 8pm: Exclusive with the Incumbent. Nuraina A. Samad, former political editor of NST, had lunch with Rafidah Aziz, it would seem from her posting Rafidah will defend her post.

20/11 Wanita Umno deputy chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has announced she will be contesting the chief post/STAR
Rafidah Aziz, the incumbent president, told some friends over lunch today that "if that's what Shahrizat wants, I'll see her in the ring in March."

You can see this in any which way but, in essence, Shahrizat has broken an August 4 pact between the two, endorsed by the movement, for a peaceful and smooth hand over in June 2009.

Nuraina had predicted that Sharizat would take on Rafidah, here. Sakmongkol's analysis here is spot on, too.

  2. True to what the said in UMNO politic there is no permanent friend no permanent enemy the only permanent is permanent self interest .
Shahrizat should concentrate on how to win back Lembah Pantai and Wanita UMNO should concentrate on how to win the 6 millions new voters.
If Wanita want to inject new dynamism they should get ex Puteri's leader into Wanita.

  4. salam

saya tak pasti la pulak dengan cadangan Datuk tu.tapi apa yang saya lihat Shahrizat ambil pendekatan "do or die".lagipun sokongan yang diterima Shahrizat semakin lama semakin menebal.Rafidah pula sudah terlalu lama berada sebagai Ketua jadi mungkin Shahrizat berkata "what the heck!i just go for the top post!".

Shahrizat memang mengambil risiko.jika dia kalah maka Rafidah mungkin akan terus menjadi ketua dan Sharizat pula mungkin terpaksa ucap selamat tinggal untuk peluangnya menjadi ketua.

perhaps in her (Shahrizat) right now is "this is now or never for me so i shall take risk go all the way for the top post".

surely Shahrizat is taking her chances on this.but if we look recently we notice that Shahrizat is gaining more and more supports from the grassroots.hence that might be the turning point for Shahrizat to contest for the top post.

besides,Rafidah has been too long to where she is now and i think there's no harm done if there's a wind of change with (soon) the new leader incharged.

  7. I think Mama Ijat will win...she got the support from Pak Lah & KJ's side so far...and she also got support from many wanita's division which voted for Rafidah actually...

I think Rafidah should think over it...she should be realised the truth about the wanita's at all ground...and may be she'd been "institutionalised" by her current post...she chair that post for so long!...now she has to face something new, somebody new to compete for the chair she's sitting..Rafidah face culture shock, I guess...hehehhe...

aku memang setuju yang ijat akan kena belasah bukan sahaja dengan rafidah tetapi dengan wanita2 yang menuntut janji2 politik ijat tu.

memang dia jenis tabus duit punya orang orang...well kj and abdullah know best their "running mate" but one thing for sure shahrizat is ketua for only abdullah and "anak-beranak" but not for wanita umno.

by now, the real grassroots tunggu saja untuk pilih ketuanya dan yang utusan malaysia dok tunjuk2 wanita2 tu sebenarnya semua tu ialah penyokong shahrizat dari awal lagi...so its no surprise that dia akan lawan rafidah.

cuma dia kena ingatlah....siapa yang nothing to loose sebenarnya ?

    Shahrizat lawan Rafidah
    Macam badak lawan gajah
    Kalau ikut ukuran macam sama
    Tapi otak nampaknya berbeza
    Rafidah lagi bergeliga
    Sudah terbukti merata dunia.

    Shahrizat? Hmmmmm stail ada
    Body pun boleh tahan juga
    Tapi kalau otak
    Aku bagi nombor dua
    Ok, tapi tak geliga.

    Siapa berani bertaruh?
Aku rasa Rafidah susah nak jatuh
    Salah-salah Shahrizat yang runtuh
    Kamilia strategi dia kelas
    Dia tolak Shahrizat naik atas
    Menanglah dia tanpa berlawan
    Dengan Rafidah mungkin jadi pasangan.

These pacts and powers of presidents are outside their real powers. These are not powers given to presidents in democratic organisations, because it prevents new leaders from emerging and promotes inbreeding and defeats the very purpose of democratic organisations.

please get a few facts straight:
    1. rafidah is waiting the 3 months to get ministership in najib's cabinet
    2. sharizat was not consulted when rafidah announced her decision to do the june plan during "wanita bersama pemimpin"
    3. the amount of effort put to make sure wanita umno does not split was what caused sharizat to shut her mouth and "angguk". do what she can to save wanita umno, also orang mencarut. dont do also, orang mencarut. try before say lah.
    4. after exco meeting, all the grassroot women said to shahrizat that they will "memberontak" because they want the change, they dont want rafidah. half of the 117 that voted for rafidah were threatened by rafidah's 5 female thugs in exco to vote for dragon lady, or else.
    5. the "transition plan" that shahrizat "angguk" to was taking into consideration was given the fact that
    - pak lah transfer to najib in 2010
    - umno gen elections NOT in march
    6. now that those two points have changed, the june "transition plan" is null and void.
    7. given all of the above, its only natural shahrizat stands for #1.

  23. I don't care too much about Rafidah or Shahrizat. What I'd like to mention is Sakmongkol AK47| Dato' Ariff; who IMHO is more important than those two.

I'm glad that someone like him has taken to blogging - he's a very important addition to my understanding of "things Umno". Yes, we have other politicians who also blog. But IMHO Sakmongkol is a cut (at least) above them.

With these other "blogging Umno politicians", I'd often get the feeling "they're hiding something". But not with Sakmongkol; and that's why his posts are superior to the rest.

And there's another thing I'm amazed at - of how prolific he can be. It's not too difficult to write short posts that comment on news reports, but with Sakmongkol, HE is the primary source - and he could sometimes come up with THREE per day!

If only there are more people in Umno who are as intellectual as he is...

P/S To Ahirudin: Nice to have met you and Nuraina 3540 Jalan Sudin aka "Nuraina ANE" last Wed afternoon at Bangsar.

For those who believe Shahrizat's claim that she wasn't consulted over the transition plan before August 4th, why don't you ask her properly.

She was at TSRA's house for several hours on Aug 1st discussing the transition plan and she agreed to it and they were going to announce it on the 4th at the event.

Irrespective of what people think abt how long TSRA has been there or people's perception of her, the fact is Shahrizat is, by her conduct showing to people that she cannot be trusted.. flip flop flip flop... Memang lawyer betul..

And yeah, you can see the grassroots supporting her. Of course lah.. these grass and roots were planted by her.

If she had an ounce of integrity, she would have said upfront that she wanted to bring the change to Wanita and not play along and fooling the WANITA and the people and continued strolling down this safe passage.

Think about it - if not for the transition plan, she (or even TSRA) may not have even gotten enough noms to make it to the race...

Breaking promise? No big deal and nothing new to UMNO. The parent itself started it when it was expedited from what was originally endorsed. This kind of behaviour is not only prevalent in the party but also in the govt they dominated. Look at Terengganu oil royalty issue. They just abrogated it at their whim & fancy (Mr Bridge Burning said it's just an MOU but even an MOU couldn't be cancelled at will if you care abt yr integrity). This is the culture created by UMNO & nobody can stop it frm spreading to the govt as long as UMNO dominates it. So to arrest the slide boot out that bad BOY aged 62 years.

There were insinuations in the comments posted here that Shahrizat is not fully fit to lead Wanita UMNO just because "she even lost to a greenhorn in Lembah Pantai during the recent GE". I say that the defeat was not due entirely due to Shahrizat but to negative sentiments of voters, especially urban ones, towards the govt generally. Rafidah was luckier contesting in a rural constituency, even then marginally escaped defeat and retained it thru the courtesy of the court. She wud have lost heavier than Shahrizat in Lembah Pantai, what more with her excess baggage. At least Shahrizat was graceful enough to openly congratulate Nurul, a quality sorely missing in Rafidah. Just look at her conduct when she lost to Siti Zaharah Sulaiman. Stink to heaven.

I think this problem must be one of UMNO weakness ( part of it's sickness too) .

As you see UMNO is a 60 years old party , but still doesn't pratice gender equality. The reason I'm saying this is since Rafidah has been in UMNO for ages since 1984 , why can't she contested for the UMNO VP or even the President position? Aren't she qualified for that post when her experience in the party is over 22 years ?
Why can't UMNO accept one of their own to be it's leader? Is there a rule in UMNO whereby states that only men can hold the President and VP post? If yes please ammended it before the party become irrelevent in times.
