Umno's election postponed?

"To avoid havoc and disaster". The Umno elections, initially scheduled for last year, were postponed to this year due to the 12th general election on March 8. The last party elections were held in 2004.
Under the party's constitution, Pak Lah can postpone the elections up to June next year.
Read Bernama's story, quoting Muhammad Muhammad Taib, here. He failed to explain, however, what havoc and disaster would befall us if Umno holds its general assembly and election this August.

  2. ..." Muhammad said the prime minister would be going to Sabah to meet with the state Umno liaison committee members there comprising the divisional chiefs, and heads of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings.

He said Thursday's supreme council meeting was also expected to discuss the Terengganu Menteri Besar issue and other current issues, including measures to restore the party's image and strength.

According to him, the people did not actually hate the government but felt that something was bothering them, and they themselves were shocked with the general election results with many even regretting the outcome.

"Barisan Nasional must face reality and admit its weaknesses before finding remedies to the state it is in now," he said...."

Mat Taib...with people like you still in cabinet, still holding important posts within Umno...BN will never face reality lah...Aiyo, rumah you tarak cermin ka?? Tgk belakang periuk ja sebelum kuar umah?

BTW, you want me to translate that? You no speaka Englais? Only can count in ze Englais? Up to 2.5 million? Atau 500 miilion? Takkan 70 million je bang...sikit sangat tu..mane cukup...double MM adik beradik pun beratus juta...isk isk isk....

BTW Dr.M should keep his mouth shut on this cos he is the one who put this rule in place and used it to his advantage. So Dr.M is what others who not as smart as you are doing now with the same rules.

Lucky our general election is compulsory by law.Otherwise, haprak dijadikannya!

Avoid Havoc and Disaster? Mat Taib you are as blind as your inept PM Dollah, Havoc and Disaster, are happening to UMNO and BN as you speak.

Why is UMNO leadership such fools.
We have lost 5 states to PAS-PKR-DAP, KL was nearly wiped out save for Setiawangsa and Negeri Sembilan was barely saved from the rakyat Tsunami and Johor and Melaka, once Bastion of UMNO and BN has been breached. You, Dollah and the rest of the UMNO leadership are leaving in denial and as everyday pass in denial we are steadily but surely transforming into the Opposition after PRU 13.

Now Dollah and his advisers has this bright idea to postpone the UMNO elections again. What for? so that inept dollah can strenghthen his hold on power and further make a fool of the Rakyat, Heck this guy even celebrated Merdeka with a private party for his friends and the elites at Sri Perdana which the Rakyat was not even invited?

You people don't get it ka, Musa Hitam says PRU 12 is a referundum on Dollah's leadership, and the people has spoken THE RAKYAT rejected Dollah, they do not want him to lead this once proud nation of ours.

I hope the MT don't just become a rubberstamp and agree to postponing this election. UMNO needs this election to rejuvenate itself, the present leadership has way past their shelf life dah expired dah. UMNO needs new ideas does not mean new blood, old blood can also come up with new ideas. Its the Law of nature, after a competition the winner come out stronger and will take UMNO to newer heights and be able to face the increasingly changing and challenging future.

But I am however resigned to the reality that our so called unelected leaders(winning without being opposed) like Dollah,Najib,Hisham,Khairy and Mat taib are not Panglima-Panglima Melayu yang gagah berani they are basically pussies with no stomach for a good fight.

Then, BN will only consist of one antic UMNO party while the rest join BR to form a new goverment. So, Mat Taib please keep up the good work and let those in power 'Syok Sendiri!'.

I feel there's more to it than meets the eye. I think there's a ton of unscrupulous contracts that needs to be fulfilled by someone to another in the machinations of BN, a lot of money at stake here to be so sombong not to loose power. The Terengganu saga is but one of them under the guise of oil revenues. The longer Badawi drags on his stay, the further the nation suffers due to his ineptitude.

We strike while the iron is still hot!

Buat malu orang Malaysia sahja lah anggota cabinet macam ni.

Maka janganlah pucuk pimpinan parti nak cakap kami ni tak waras sedangkan yang tak waras tu pemimpin. Pemimpin yang tak waras ni perlulah diganti gengan secepat mungkin bulan Ogos ni tak perlulah nak tangguh ke2009 buat perabis besas sahja.

  42. Maybe we should just sit back, feet up, relax and watch the circus from afar. This is UMNO domestic affairs now. It has nothing to do with us. Maybe it's hard not comment about UMNO since a lot of us have gotten so used to critizing UMNO that we can't help but to continue doing it as if we are the official member of the party now fast sinking into the water.

We shouldn't be angry with Pok Loh anymore. After all he helped Barisan Rakyat won. Let him do what he's gotta do to destroy UMNO piece by piece. We should be celebrating at every little thing he does that can spell disaster for UMNO. We shouldn't be angry. We are not UMNO members. We live across the street, watching UMNO house on fire. Postpone elections? I suppose that is the only thing a badly shot and bleeding Umno can do to salvage the situation. Entirely understandable.

I realise it is fashionable to bash Umno on the blogs, but know this, in their shoes, any party would have done the same. After all, the vultures are circling.

On the flip side, I am still marvelling over how fragile Umno really is.

The party was somehow held together by fear, money politics and some people's coinciding interest in keeping it alive.

Those who really believe is party ideology, please stand up. I don't think even the Umno Youth punks have that philosophy DNA of the previous generation. Those keris wielding antics are just that, going through the motions.

These punks are a far cry from the force that Harun Idris and his Umno youth brethren was.

Umno has been softened by money and lulled into complacency.

The GE2008 results showed just how much how far Umno and BN in general have lost the plot.

There is a threat of extinction looming on Umno's horizon even if the horizon is maybe 10 years away.

    Understandably they are nervous.

However, for Malaysians in general, this may be a good thing.

If the Opposition governments can begin work to show that ethnocentric parties are not necessary in the 21st century Malaysia, BN itself becomes redundant.

The key thing is helping the people, esp those who need it, regardless of race and religion. Pay attention to socioeconomic matters, because the nasi and kuah issues are paramount.

Malaysians are generally decent people. The politicians divided some of us, but not all of us.

Maybe this is the time to heal that mutual distrust among the races that still existed.

But then, politicians have a tendency to scuttle these ideals. Power and money, unfortunately, are such a corrosive combination on a politician's character.

So I shall reserve comment on the ad-hoc coalition of PAS/DAP/PKR despite them making the right noises so far.

I think the postphone is quite positive.

August is too near for the people to digest and think through who is the best person that should lead the country (if not Pak Lah).

This person will most probably lead the country, it is a serious matter for all malaysian. I think pressure we must give but we should not rush it even if we're damned so fed up with Pak Lah.

So far, we have not many candidates who step forward, and they are not very revealing, if more could step forward to challenge the PM, that is a good thing as the people can choose the best leader. The ideal case would be in the coming EGM they abolish the nomination quota to contest party posts first before election. This is good for everybody and for the country.

"Cheras Umno pass resolution for EGM to abolish quota" - The Star

I think this is a very positive step they should take before the election.

The strong waves hitting its sins
Too many decades now the tiny holes
    Bringing in the salt water
    Dripping down from its deck

    The ghost of Hang Tuah
    Standing aloof on her deck
    “Hey somebody drawing his keris
Is it my honor or somebody’s sin?”

    UMNO leaders
    Afraid they can’t find land
    Struggling and shouting
    The waves keep hitting them

    So now the internal strife
It has begun to ripple its strikes
    Hitting every way
Until the leaders can’t take it
Hang Tuah sits on the deck
Smiling his way knowing it has to be done

No respect to the Sultan and King
These leaders shouldn’t be allowed to stay
It is time for them to go
    Tainted and painted faces
Hiding the truth just beware of them

    Hang Tuah says his prayer
And disappears into the thin air
He knows the leaders are finished
    When UMNO breaks into pieces
The remnants of lies and deceptions
Dishonesty and rudeness to the King
Lying bare naked in the hot sun
    The people have decided
Come GE13 the final nail into its soul
    Goodbye…………………….

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The Cheras Umno division wants all top posts in the party, including those of president and deputy president, be contested at its upcoming elections.

This was one of the 12 resolutions passed by the division at a special meeting here, Tuesday night.

Its chief, Senator Datuk Wira Syed Ali Al-Habshee said the resolutions adopted at the meeting, which discussed the Barisan Nasional's (BN) dismal performance in the recent general election, would be submitted to Umno's Supreme Council.

"If the top two posts are not contested, we will not be able to know the actual strength of the president and deputy president in the party," he told reporters after the meeting.

He believed contests for the top two posts would not in any way weaken the party.

Among other resolutions passed was one calling for the abolition of the quota system for nominations in order to contest the top posts.

He said Umno should revert to its original principles whereby a candidate only required two nominations in order to contest the top two posts, unlike now where 35 and 20 nominations respectively were needed.

Syed Ali also said that the division wanted Umno to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) as soon as possible to hear views of members of the performance of the BN in the general election and to amend its constitution to do away with the nomination quota system for candidates wanting to contest the top posts.

The big U has its constitution and convention on how things are to be done.

I see no big deal with the postponement as long as it is constitutionally legitimate.

If there is any one to be blame, it must surely be those who make it possible for AAB to have an escape route.

Did he change any rules since he became president of the big U?
    No?

Anyway, there must be something wrong with the big U constitution if the decision to postpone rest solely with the president.

SEREMBAN, March 26 (Bernama) -- Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan wants the party election to be held this year as scheduled instead of postponing it to next year as proposed by some quarters.

The Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and State Umno Liaison chairman said Umno members should be rational on this matter.

"We must not run away from problems but should face them. This is my personal opinion.

"Action must be taken as Umno members want the Malays to be united and strong again. However, if those in Umno are not interested in unity, then we can postpone it and the problem will not be resolved forever" he told reporters here Wednesday.

Mohamad Hasan was commenting a statement by Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhamad Taib yesterday that state Umno liaison committees had proposed that the party election be postponed to June next year to avoid problems.

The Umno election scheduled for last year was postponed because of the general election and must be held before June next year.

Mohamad said Umno members must be prepared to take on problems and not run away from them.

"We must return to the original Umno struggle. People who love Umno as the party which fights for the dignity of the Malays must place the party before personal interest.

"The recent general election was an expensive lesson for us all," he added.

Pak Lah should continue his unfinish job of opening up Malaysia to new political climate.
He is much better than Dr.M and is hard to find such a great leader, Malaysia is lucky. At least now Samy and AP Queen are gone, Zakaria is death. Now we even start hearing MB starting to implement open tender which was never hear of during Dr.M 22 years. All Malaysian should welcome this new political climate and endose Pak Lah as long as he stand.

    UMNO elections postponed?

    But WHY?

MCA got bolas to hold theirs in October this year. In fact their branch and division elections will commence soon. They are not scared.

But why is UMNO scared? Of what?

    Salam tuan
komen saya, jika pemilihan ditangguhkan :

    1. menafikan hak demokrasi ahli UMNO utk memilih pemimpin mereka setiap 3 tahun

    2. membolehkan pemimpin yg tidak lagi relevan di peringkat cawangan, Bahagian & Pusat berkuasa dhn masa tambahan

    3. menjadikan ahli UMNO leka & kurang fokus tentang permasalahann sebenar contoh terbaik menyebabkan kekalahan teruk pada PRU12
