Apalah, Mas?

Angry Customer. Sedutan blog Op Ed membaham Malaysia Airlines:
To all SIA customers, please go to Gate 4, my staff will give you hotel vouchers. Your flight tomorrow has been rescheduled to 2pm. We have ground staff directing you where to go. Please give us about an hour to arrange for buses to take you to a hotel for the night.'

Terdengar beberapa mat salleh dalam kumpulan MAS dan juga penumpang India berkata: 'That's SIA for you'. 'Singapore, efficient as usual'.
Geram aku dengan bongok MAS ni!
Ini bukan kali pertama - dah dua minggu kabus delay flight.
Apa rancangan kamu? Mana ground staff kanan? Bodoh betul.
Notice this also: SIA tak panggil penumpang mereka 'passengers'. Mereka digelar 'customers'.
Maknanya: You are our customers, we will take good care of you.
What's up, MAS?

  3. I also find fault with their online purchasing system. It doesn't inform you if a flight has a stopover. The only clue you'll get is if u look at the arrival time and calculate that the flight takes extra hours. They will only inform you of the stopover after you have purchased the ticket. And even after that, they don't tell you where the flight stops! I complained once to them via email but never got a response back.

  5. Bro,

I was once checking in in Heathrow to fly back to KL. After checking in, I went int the waiting lounge. Tunggu punya tunggu, flight time also dah lepas, nothing happened. About 1 hour before flight time, the SIA agents were already on the PA system announcing their flight to Singapore was being delayed because of bad weather. The SIA flight was about 30 minutes later than the MAS flight.
Buses were made available, food vouchers were given and passengers were brought to hotels by SIA. And we, MAS passengers sat there and nothing happened. We sat and sat till night time (flight was supposed to be 11am!!!). At about 8pm, we were ushered into a bus and brought to a hotel etc. The next morning we had to wake up at 5am to catch up a replacement flight which was supposed to be at 8am or something. Even the replacement flight was further delayed!!!
    I will always remember this!
Yesterday I was in JB checking in for KL. The couple in front of me (with a toddler) took 20 minutes (yes, I timed it!) to check in. Wtf?

    Rocky,

Actually, Singapore practice "Rakyat di dahulukan, pencapaian diutamakan" 40 years ago. That is why their service is better then us in every aspect.

Their Aircraft services better then us, their MRT bigger and better then us, and their bus services is way ahead of us.

Last but not least, even their currency is more higher then us.

Seriously, for the life of me, I cannot understand how MAS win all these terror merra awards. Maybe bribery.. WELL, what is there to dispute my theory when such incident have proven for the whole wide world to see!

Not to say I am boastful or what, I being trained by SIA and worked for that airline for 5 years, I must say, we are trained well! If we ever give such nonsense to our customers, we will be fried till crispy and flaky!

Anyway, I have travelled using MAS and other airlines extensively and find that MAS is indeed very bad. From ground crew to cabin crew, service is horrible. Very bad! Very bad!!

Too petty an issue. If the service is perceived as bad, use other airlines. There's always China Airlines, JAL (still there?) Aeroflot, Yugoslavian Air, Air Asia, Emirates etc. It's not a monopoly business. Perhaps using other services will create competition for MAS.

Anyway, it's too petty an issue.

The Board of Directors and all senior management of MAS 99% Melayu. As for SIA the majority are Chinese with even some from Malaysia. Malaysia hires based on race, Singapore hires based on ability. MAS' service sucks while that of Singapore is a standard bearer in the airline industry.

UMNO's greatest achievement. ALL GLC's controlled and run by Melayus. With the exception of Petronas which is in an industry even the stupid(Mahathir's opinion) Arabs can make money, which GLC can claim to be making money in the international arena.

If you want to take on the world, you get the best to work for you. You do not send all your talents to your neighbour and expect to beat them in the international arena.

1UMNO too racist to see their own stupidity. By the way rocky, aren't you one of the UMNO racist which turned the GLCs into Melayu first and last? What's there for you to bitch about reagrding MAS' service?

    Tony, where is your heart?

NOV 9 — Dear Tony (if I may, or Dear Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes)

I have been meaning to write to you. I know you love getting notes from your AirAsia customers. You have a blog, several websites, wiki page and even Facebook, all for people to get in touch with you. I decided against writing you a direct email because I think what I have to say is widely shared by other people as well. So if you do reply to me, I can share your reply.

Let me congratulate you on your appointment as F1 boss and a trustee of 1 Malaysia Foundation. Second, congratulations on your titles after such a short career in aviation — I mean less than five years ago you were “call me Tony” then you became Datuk and now Datuk Seri. At the rate you are going, I suspect you will be Tan Sri by the end of next year!

The reason I am writing is because I keep reading how well your airline is doing— it’s making tons of money and ordering a massive number of Airbus planes. You have gone international with AA X, insurance, hotels and goodness what else!

Yet somehow I think you have lost your human touch and are now solely interested in making money, just like the blood-sucking Malaysian elite you joined recently. Yet you keep telling us, in your public interviews anyway, that making money is not your main aim but providing a “service” to the rakyat! How can we, the poor rakyat, not remember that before you descended from the mountain, we had to pay “sky high” prices just to fly. As you say, now “everyone can fly”. So, a big Terima Kasih from me and 28 million other Malaysians!

What I am talking about is your reluctance to use the passenger-bridge in all airports in Malaysia . You put the blame on MAHB’s high charges. I’m sure since yours is a volume business, MAHB will be happy to offer you a special deal since you must be their second biggest customer after MAS. I cannot believe that with the millions you are making, you cannot afford to use the bridge. Or if you are really desperate, I am sure you can add 50 sen to every ticket sold to cover part of the costs.

I say this because I took a flight recently from LCCT to East Malaysia . When we arrived, it was raining heavily. Several mothers with children, and old people, were reluctant to leave the plane. But alias, your crew literally pushed them off since they only have 25 minutes to fly out again. I felt so sorry for one of the old aunties who had to carry two bags (she was trying to save RM10 because of your no-free luggage policy) and there was no one from Air Asia to help her with an umbrella. One mummy with children fared even worse. She was carrying an infant and could not hold the umbrella properly. I asked one of the flight stewardesses to help her but she gave me a dirty look. I guess nobody wanted to be caught in a mini-typhoon. I tried my best my help her but she got soaked because the umbrella was designed for one person only.

I can go on and on, and described the scene at the staircase since we all had to walk up to the “arrival hall”. Let’s just say it was a heart-breaking scene. The old people had to climb up the stairs totally soaked, and I will not be surprised if they came down with pneumonia. One of the children slipped because the staircase was wet.

    Rocky,
The problem with MAS is there are too many relatives or family members within the organization. Try asking a staff and he/she will tell you that his/her father, brothers, sisters, cousins, in laws are all working in the same company. So when anyone of them commits an offense and the disciplinary board is taking action against the staff, all the family members will come and plead for leniency and beg to drop the case.......... Tell me, what discipline left within MAS.. Ask any of the junior staff when a flight is delayed or canceled, the most senior staff will go into hiding...takut kena marah...There are one thousand and one (1001) weaknesses within MAS..It is an uphill task for the CEO..

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bro

Beats me why they got rid of Idris Jala when he was doing a good job of turning things around for MAS and surely would have inculcated the customer centric approach to MAS culture, like that at SIA. Did PM Najib capitualte to UMNO ultra wing elements' opposition to Jala's Christian/Kelabit Sarawakian origins?

When Tajuddin Ramli botched up MAS, Daim/Mahathir rescued it at $8 per share when the market price was under $4. Then to help stabilise long term cash flow, PMB was formed by the Govt to buy aircrafts and lease them to MAS.

The moment Idris Jala was replaced, the new CEO has done a u-turn and MAS is raising some $3 billion by rights issue to BUY aircrafts direct from Boeing etc. Many would say this is not the time to give a MAS CEO a free hand given the numerous police reports made by ex-MAS managers against TR and his family members/cronies for alleged financial and economic looting fraud.

Yes, MAS will save money by buying and not leasing from PNB in the form of PMB's foregone margin and lease interest charges as well as capital allowance. But the bottom line will still take a substantial whack from aircraft depreciation charge and aircraft maintenance and spare parts stock up.

But what happens when there is a downturn and MAS is stuck again for $ billion cash flows? Multi-billion $ Govt/Taxpayer BAILOUT again?

So, ther are pros and cons in buy vs lease. Maybe we should take a leaf out of SIA and S'pore where they LEASE from a Govt owned body which gives SIA lower profitably but long term stability against short term gains and long term financial disaster.

Yet SIA has consistently outperformed MAS financially over the last 20 years!!

MAS should learn from its consistently profitable business competitors and not go out on a limb based on a greenhorn CEO nad a doctrinaire approach to a rocky (no pun intended) business!!

Have flown MAS on both biz and economy, the service in biz is good, but economy its just so bad. The cabin crew are so arrogant and do not bother about serving you. They make you feel loke they are doing you a favour. However if its a Mat Salleh passenger they fall all over their feet. If I have to fly economy class MAS would be my last choice! Toyol is diehard MAS frequent flyer at least - i.e. on Business class. Thanks Toyol for not flying SIA.

    ============

Yesterday, PNSB chief executive officer Datin Khairiyah Abu Hassan dropped a bombshell when she further revealed how much the State-owned conglomerate had forked out for former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo and his family’s expenses during the overseas technical visits.

She also drew hoots of laughter when she explained the reasons for the trips.

    1. Jakarta and Jogjakarta, Indonesia - 20-24 April 2003
    Total cost: RM201,452
Dr Khir, his wife, daughter and maid also went on the trip. The purpose was for delegates to study Indonesia ’s batik production, which was supposed to lead to the opening of a batik factory in Selangor.

Cost of airfare for Dr Khir, his wife, daughter and maid: RM37,695
Miscellaneous costs incurred by the delegates RM34,404

Spent on two-day rental of a limousine/ Mercedes Benz in Jakarta : RM5,800
Paid for two-day rental of a limousine/ Mercedes Benz in Jogjakarta : RM5,000

    2. Morocco and Paris : 17-24 Dec 2004
(inclusive of four-day transit in Dubai )
    Total cost: RM900,000

The trip, attended by Dr Khir, his wife, children and maid as well as PNSB delegates, was to study Islamic architecture, which could be adopted in Selangor...
The group, which had a reconnaissance trip beforehand, also visited Paris Disneyland to generate ideas for a theme park in Bagan Lalang, Sepang.
They bought tickets to enter the theme park and did not meet any Disneyland representatives.

Cost of the recce team trip: RM366,000

    Cost of official trip: RM416,000
    Airfare: RM366,000
    Ground arrangements RM420,000
    City travel: RM70,000
    Other expenses RM43,000

    3. Honolulu (Hawaii) & Orlando (Florida) - 23 Dec 2007 to 1 Jan 2008
    Total cost: RM646,841
    Additional cash taken: RM101,000
A technical study on the Bagan Lalang theme park was also the pivotal reason for the trip. The group, comprising Dr Khir, his family and PNSB delegates, bought tickets to DisneyWorld and again did not meet any Disneyland representatives.

A tour guide instead took them around. Cost of Dr Khir’s luxury suite: RM110,000

Cost of six single superior rooms for the delegates: RM171,000
Cost of one twin-sharing room RM24,800

Khairiyah claimed that on the trips, Dr Khir and his wife flew only first class.

The itinerary of the US trip also included visits to Miami Beach , island tours, dinner cruises and a Honolulu city tour.

Dr Khir and his wife, supposed to have been key witnesses, failed to turn up for any of the inquiry proceedings.

  48. I flew form Kuantan - KL - Kuantan last week and this week too. 4 flights.
All 4 flights there was no Going Places inflight mags.

The last flight I asked the stewardess, out of curiousity - she said: Out of stock.

    Can you believe it?

The real test of MAS if the management i.e. the CEO would dare respond personally to this article. IF he dare not defend MAS against what had been written, then we all know MAS is not interested. The difference of being a cattle and customer is the interest the airline takes in people.

Sori mr bunnies, my foreign hubby has been travelling in MAS for years. He saluted their services, too bad we locals do not see any 'beauty' within. Complain aje semanjang, tah2 dibelakang kita, kerja2 kita pon orang2 lain complain, macam lah perfect sangat. Cuba lah naik northwest/delta airlines, no comparision dengan service MAS. Kami bersyukur dgn MAS.

    Salam Bro..

    MALIKUL SEMBAB BERFATWA LAGI..

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 — Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin dispelled the notion today that Malay nationalist group, Perkasa, had become more influential than his party.

He said that NGOs like Perkasa had a role to play, but it is ultimately political parties that set the tone for the country.

“At this stage, certain quarters may see the role of NGOs as [getting] stronger, therefore it is seen that the NGO is more influential than a political party.

“But in the end, people will decide their future based on parties that will fight for their future. And it is not [the] NGOs that will stand for election,” he said

He also stressed that Umno remained the strongest of all the local political parties.

Perkasa, which began as a one man band after Election 2008, has been shaping up as a national pressure group to Umno that represents those seeking to defend the constitutional position of the Malays and the “social contract”.

For the past two months, the Perkasa national leadership has been going on road shows to officiate state level launches and to organise massive recruitment drives.

Muhyiddin further argued that that the role of NGOs could not be compared with that of the government.

“Don’t belittle the government; they are only NGOs. No NGO can be compared to what the government can achieve.

“The government is strong and the government is very clear in its direction,” he said.

He added that the government was now more open and people can evaluate its sincerity and commitment.

“We (Barisan Nasional) are clear (in our direction). We are committed, brave and ready.

“We want to ask, what is Pakatan Rakyat and the opposition state’s direction?” asked Muhyiddin.

Despite Muhyiddin’s strong words, Perkasa has grown in strength in recent times.

Yesterday, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he believes Perkasa was increasingly popular within the Malay community because Umno was being seen as incapable of protecting their rights.

This particular subject - MAS's shortcomings - has been highlighted in many reports and analyses.

As long as MAS is run as an extension of the Malaysian civil service, nothing will change.

Case in point: Japan Airlines will go into bankruptcy and be restructured with a bailout from a Japanese government company. One third of JAL's staff will be retrenched. It's shareholders will lose their investments in JAL shares. JAL's creditors and banks will have to take a severe "haircut".

Now, when MAS went through it's bailouts and restructuring, how many jobs were eliminated? One third of it's workforce?

Do you want to compare the productivity of MAS, in terms of revenue and profits per employee, against the benchmark SIA?

The difference is that SIA is run on a hardnosed commercial basis, with no room for featherbedding, handouts, quotas etc. And no "national service" obligations, either!

    Yes Rocky,

MAS have been brutally raped by the powers that be since Tajuddin’s time.
My recommendation to the Gomen is to AIDA it:
    a. Create AWARENESS – admits that MAS is in deep shit, do not cover up.
    b. Develop INTEREST – on how to save MAS
    c. Build DESIRE – and the will to succeed
    d. Take serious ACTION – some heads must roll.

Most of all, a strong political will to fix the problem – want to fix it and know how to fix it.

For a start, the Gomen must engage Tan Sri Aziz to replace ALL the current multi million foreign consultants (more than hundred millions wasted and I have the proof).

Please wake up Najib, before it is too late.

    Rocky,

Sapa lah suruh MAS lantik Pak LAH jadi penasihat MAS..... habis semua staff dia pun slow macam Dollah.

Nasib baik pilot dia tak tertidor masa bawak kapalterbang.

Aku dah biasa kena benda benda macam ni - bukan MAS saja, airline lain pun lbih kurang aje. Supervisor takut nak ikut SOP, sebab management nak maintain cost - JAL lagi boleh bungkus.

    bro,

Kemudian barulah cemerlang, gemilang, terbilang asalkan jgn terus hilang. Dulu gaduh pasal DS Idris Jala kononnya tindas pekerja Melayu MAS. Bila time bayar, dia buat macam budak2, pernah sekali selepas tiga bulan menunggu, dia orang bayar RM6,000. Benda2 mcm dia orang pun kena ambil berat. Periuk nasi org beb.

  63. saya pernah berpengalaman when Kota Bharu dilanda Jerebu (1st time) dan flight saya pada waktu malam. I was waiting with other 'passengers' of MAS. Tidak ada announcement or what ever tindakan yg perlu kami buat. Tunggu punya tunggu punya tunggu sampai yg lain2 ambil tindakan utk bergerak. 'passengers' mula marah sbb ditolak ke sana sini tanpa ada tindakan oleh MAS. Akhirnya setelah 4 jam lebih, diberikan kupon utk Burger King dan diarahkan utk tukar tiket kpd keesokkan paginya.

Posting yg Rocky's Bru tunjukkan ini menunjukkan tiada perubahan oleh MAS since a long time ago. Patutnya ada SOP utk kes2 mcm ni dan MAS sepatutnya dah buat latihan2 menghadapinya. It's simple, FLIGHT DELAY/CANCELLED BY MAS --> tukar tiket, kupon makan, penginapan di hotel if necessary.

I urge the CEO of MAS to fly Dragon Air or Cathay Pacific to experience the difference.
Their cabin crew will walk down the aisle slowly; looking left and right and with a pleasant smile. They are prepared to offer any service when ask.

For our Golden boys and girls in MAS, they are virtually running down the aisle so that you have no chance stopping them to order a drink.

Good Work Bro...Go ahead and promote SIA,,,and kill MAS...BUT do you know the differences??..

SIA is run by the chinese and that is why they are doing SOOOO WELLL

MAS is run by the malays and that is why they are so baddd???

And you just admitted to it....just becos you hate Pak Lah so much and you being Mahathir's xxxx....you dare run down the airlines which is run by your people???...and praise the airlines which is run by 99% Chinese??

Bagus lah Bro...keep up the good work...and while you are doing it, why you dont say anything about Air Asia who by the way is run by 70% non malays....becos 70% non malay??..

So..you are finally admitting that malays cannot do a good job right???

is your affliation to mahathir so strong that you dare run down our own people???...

MAS is run by malays bro...pikir lah sikit...if we dont support our own airlines run by malays...siapa lagi nak support???...

How come you never said a word about the airline run by Tony???

MAS is your target becos of Pak Lah only, right????

Saya dah perhatikan lama dah kebonggokan MAS. Pengurusan international MAS memang macam itu, seolah nak menjatuhkan MAS bukan nak menaikan imej. Banyak kakitangan MAS di luar negara tidak cekap hanya pandai bodek orang Malaysian Embassy saja. Banyak crew penerbangan international yang bukan malaysian, poor in communication.

We need experienced people in ALL areas to run MAS, if not learn about what's happening to JAL. MAS is on track to bankruptcy.

Sadly, present MD/CEO has no experience. Sorry, nothing personal.

What, precisely, are the points that you are trying to make in your post?

Or is it a tongue-in-the-cheek satirical jab at Rocky?

Why should it matter who runs MAS? If it aspires to play in the big leagues of full-service international airlines, it should be prepared to be benchmarked against the best in the industry.

Or are you saying, that because MAS is a GLC, and because it has certain "obligations", that it has to be judged by a different set of standards?

If you remember your history, you will know that both MAS and SIA came into existence when the then-Malaysia Singapore Airlines was split up in 1972. See where MAS and SIA are now; the latter is one of the best airlines in the world (with the awards to prove it) and has the biggest market capitalisation for any airline company in the world.

JY Pillay, the founding chairman of SIA, has pointed out that

"the guiding premise or organising principle of the company (during its formation in 1972) was self reliance, or accountability, and full discretion (to management) to exercise authority...

"From the outset, the government stipulated no financial aid to SIA. Period. Investment for expansion, yes. But no subsidy, direct or indirect. SIA had to attain cruising speed on its own, or stall." (as reported in the Spore Business Times, Feb 1, 2010).
