Najib's last address to Youth, Wanita and Puteri

Change for the better. The opening address for the Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings' proceedings is traditionally made by the Deputy President of the party. If all goes to plan later this week, that task will go to Muhyiddin Yasin next year. As for Najib, last night's address was his last as the Deputy President. He will take over from Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as Umno president at the end of this week and is due to be sworn in as the country's 6th Prime Minister on April 3, 2009.

The address covers a good spectrum of issues: the socio-economic concerns, national unity, history of the nation, and even the need to win the cyber war. A recurring theme in the speech is the need for change and for Umno to have leaders who are not averse to change. Consistent with this theme, Najib proposes that Umno reviews the sytem of electing its leaders to be more democratic, corruption-proof, and involve not just the 2,600 delegates from the party's 191 divisions nationwide.

Some passages of the address sound a little like
Mahathir's, too. Example:

  1. Malaysia is alive, again. I pray that Dtk Seri Najib would lead this nation to greater heights, towards attaining our Vision 2020. Vision 2020 is a truly remarkable development blueprint that could propel us forward ... with minor fine-tunings according to the evolution of Malaysia and Malaysians.

May God bless us and give our leaders a clear heart and mind ... away from the dungeon we were dragged into since 2004.

Action speaks louder than words and new broom sweeps well!
Najib, the changes can only be possible when all Malaysians are embraced to face the difficult task ahead as ONE NATION. UMNO alone is not the answer, it has outlive its usefulness...this corrupted structure needs to be dismantle soonest possible.
UMNO needs a superman to clean up the whole organization…obviously, Najib is not that gentleman.
Firstly reform all the tainted Institutions and and remove the rotten heads, if that can be achieved, everything will slowly return to good governance.

I watched the entire Najib speech last nite.

    No rhetoric.
    No sensitive
    No racism
No personal attack (unlike Anwar's tune's of Mongolia, submarine commission)

    Focus
    Realistic
    Humility
    Forward looking

Now, you know why Anwar Ibrahim is so desperate to concoct all sort of lies and allegation against Najib in an attempt to hinder Najib to be the next PM.

Now, you know why Pakatan Rioters bloggers working so hard and generate the negative perception towards Najib.

Now, you know why Anwar and Kit Siang, Hadi Awang, Nik Aziz, Karpal Singh want Abdullah Badawi to remain as PM.

We need capable leader. Rhetoric can take a long rest for the time being.

Purely condeming on shortcomings without effort made in the corrective measures is the easiet and convenient means of short term political expendiency like Phakatan Rioters doing now.

Malaysia definitely deserve the stability and we should be entitled to enjoy the blessings and take effort to improve/correct shortcomings.

That was part of his speech too! So in other words 30% of those below 40 were born before May 13 1969!!

Aiyo...reminds me of my maths in lower secondary..very bad man!!

He made that statement yesterday..and 40 years after May 13 1969 is coming up in just a couple of months.

30% of those below 40 as of yesterday, 24 March 2009 were born between 24th March 1969 and May 13, 1969!!! Hmmm.

If that was crappy, is the rest of his speech just as crappy too?

"Melayu dan UMNO tidak dapat di pisahkan"......But why? Why is it so important that UMNO sees itself as the natural God ordained leader, representative, umbrella to the Malay race? UMNO would of course like to think so, but haven't the Malays in Singaproe, Sri Lanka and Cape Town told them to just up yours and get lost ..or something to that effect? Why has this mantra been sung for so long? What is the insecurity? Where is the insecurity? The Malays themselves or UMNO and its leaders?

    Dearie old fartie,

why the insecurity of the malays? easy man. singapore was not too long ago a tanah melayu,, now it's a chinese dynasty with scant regards for the indians and only disdain for the malays.

the cousins of those who took away singapore from the malays thru devious political means are still in malaysia and they have reared their ugly heads of late.

but you wouldn't want to see it. as a non-malay yourself, and a racist one just in case you think people didn't think so, you have no empathy for the malay sweat and tears. that's quite natural, too.

you would probably say singapore was never a malay kingdom, despite what history says. just like your like are denying that malaysia is a tanah melayu.

as for the malays of cape town, we love them as our brothers and sisters. most of them have married the locals - mostly blacks - and are of mixed blood, just like a lot of malays are in malaysia. many here are descendents of persian islamic gurus, arabs, indians and chinese. but that's something that irks you too, doesn't it old fartie -- that a malay remains a malay, somehow and stubbornly - even when he or she is born of irish pa or japanese ma.

i won't apologise for that. 'cos that's what being a malay is.

Chinese, Indians and all those other races should be banish from Malaysia. Make those ungrateful people refugees. Malaysia is only for Malays.
If they want to stay in Malaysia, then they should start assimilating into our culture and embrace our religion. If not they should go elsewhere. Malaysia is only for Malays.
Najib should start double taxing them. Hey, pendatang needs to pay rent don't they? Make all middle managers to senior management in GLCs, semi-GLCs and all public listed companies only for Malays. All non-Malays SME must pay double tax. Bar them from buying prime locations. These areas should only for Malays. WE DO NOT NEED NON-MALAYS. It is time to purge this country from this greedy people. They can go back to China, India or whereever they come from. Pass this message to all Malays. It is time we take our country back from the chinks and kelings.

    Dear Old Fart,

It's not just your Maths that is lousy, it's your BM too. I guess it's too much to expect someone like you to be proficient in our national language.

Najib didn't, as you claim, say "More than 70 percent of those below 40 were born after the tragedy of May 13, 1969."

    What he actually said was:
"Merujuk sudut demografi, lebih satu pertiga (41.5 peratus pada tahun 2005 diunjurkan 40.2 peratus pada 2010) daripada jumlah rakyat Malaysia berada dalam kategori belia yakni lingkungan umur antara 15 hingga 40 tahun. Lebih 70 peratus pula berada di bawah usia 40 tahun yang lahir pasca tragedi 13 Mei 1969."

Maybe next time you can get someone who actually understands Malay to translate for you.

Speak for yourself. I am a Malay and I am not like you. I don't even think like you.

I'm close to forty and I have seen what UMNO has done for the last 20 years. Most of it rotten.

Malaysia is going down the drain, even Singapore, that infinitesimal flyspeck of country is doing better. Korea were behind us in the 1980s when Mahathir took over. Their GDP is now 3 times ours.

And why? You think UMNO dare ask that in their AGM? Think a bunch of (corrupt) clowns holding important positions and most probably you are close to the answer.

You buy their development sales pitch? Maybe they are convincing to the makciks and pakciks who can't grasp the comparisons made with real figures. They go for the "Dulu takdak TV/fridge/ washing machine, sekarang semua rumah ada". That would give rise to tough questions about where we are now. UMNO and BN are taking Malaysia to hell in ahand basket; they are not going to change.
