Missing Kuala Terengganu

It's a 3-some for the KT by-election on Jan 17: Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh (BN) vs Abdul Mohd Wahid Endut (Pas/Pakatan Rakyat) and Azharudin Mamat alias Adam (Independent). Read full story here.
I have to give the KT by-election a miss, primarily because it's not that relevant for readers of the newspaper I write weekly for. And I couldn't find accomodation. Tun Salleh Abas has kindly offered to put me up at his place but I won't want to impose on his space just for this by-election.

KT by-election won't change anything for most of us but it is very important to the following people:

1) Pak Lah, because Wan Farid will help ensure his legacy and help him and son-in-law hold on to some influence in Terengganu Umno
2) Wan Farid because his political career is as good as over if he loses. His elder brother Wan Hisham lost his state seat during the March general election because he represented the much-despised Monsoon Cup, which locals said benefited only Pak Lah's closest cronies.
3) Anwar Ibrahim because a victory means he'll be one MP closer to his dream of taking over Putrajaya.

The Barisan Rakyat bloggers, who've vowed to deliver the KT seat to the Pakatan Rakyat, drove up to KT yesterday to help out their candidate from PAS.

    Dear Mr Rocky
There have been many comments, both good and bad about out political situation in the country. One thing which is a fact, whether you love or hate him, Anwar Ibrahim did bring changes to Malaysia. For that on behalf of many Malaysians, we thanked him. We are more aware of our rights. More people are more willing to come out in the open with their views. MPs cannot just sit and attend parliament taking rubbish. Now he will have to play his role. Many of us are sure that come next round, if the current government dont clean up their act, say goodbye to being the government. similarly Anwar Ibrahim must deliver.

  5. "At 9.30am, Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim) vice-president Harun Abdul Rahman Mohd from Batu Buruk walked into the nomination centre, but caused a stir when he did not file in his papers.

Instead, in a hastily called press conference just outside the centre, Harun surprised everyone by asking voters to throw in their support behind PAS, because "our paths are headed in the same direction"

"Islam is my course, and I am giving way to PAS," he announced

THIS AKIM GUY IS AN UMNO GUY IN PAS CLOTH..

FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS, WE CAN EXPECT THIS 'FOX IN THE SHEEP CLOTHING' GIVING STATEMENT ON HUDUD, ISLAMIC STATE, PUBLIC WHIPPING, STONING, AMPUTATION AND BLA...BLA...BLA... TO SCARE OFF THE CHINESE VOTERS.

GOOD PROPAGANDA WORK DONE BY BN!

  6. Sdr Rocky,

Unfortunate that we will not be getting your insights for the by-election as you are probably one of the only bloggers that provides a neutral, nonpartisan reporting.

Barisan Rakyat bloggers in my opinion have failed to remain nonpartisan and seems to be basking in their glory of having played a big role in the outcome of March elections and therefore 'is bent on DELIVERING the seat to PAS'(Talk about power..)

Lastly, keep up the good work and all the best for year 1430/2009.

  8. yeah.to most of us KT is just another by-election to fill the spot of mp.

but to the hardcore of BN and PR,this is another oppourtunity to show of who is the boss and who is more powerful that can gain the confidence from the voters.

it's still 50/50 of who will gonna win the seat.welcome to another round of by-lection after Permatang Pauh!

  9. The KT by-election has powerful implications for both sides. It won't alter the balance in Parliament, but in the eyes of the public a victory would go a long way.

I still do not have any confidence in the EC though. That is an even bigger issue.

What do you think of below extract of latest article written by Raja Petra "Does MCA support hudud?

My non Muslim friends are very disturbed and thought Raja Petra has gone lunatic and sounding like a fanatic mullah :(

Is winning Kuala Terengganu by-election so important that one can simply bulldoze on other's rights?

Please read the most disturbing extract from RPK article:

MCA, do you or don’t you support Hudud?
Speak up now or forever hold your tongue.
    Are you pro-Islam or anti-Islam?
Please tell us now and make it very clear. Tomorrow we are going to Terengganu to campaign for PAS and we want to know what to tell the Kuala Terengganu voters.
And it will either be “MCA is anti-Islam” or “MCA is pro-Hudud”.

Saya org Trg, dan mengikut kata org ramai, BN akan kalah dlm pilihan raya ni. Bukan saya nak pikir negatif, tetapi BN tidak membuat research untuk memilih calon yg sesuai. Dah lah pilih org Pak Lah yg terang2 ramai org x suka sebab Wang ehsan dulu. Bagus lah, lepas ni bila calon kalah, boleh lah start sesi salah menyalah, org Ismail Said kata Pak Lah salah, Org Pak Lah kata tak kesah, sebab lepas ni najib yg tanggung semua. BODOH!!!!

    Yawn !

The same old issues will take centre stage. It will always be the blame game of the past actions. The fault finders will be working overtime. The hate campaign will roll on.

But none of the politicians from both sides will talk about development for the future.

They are too obsessed with petty issues and point scoring character defamation.

The rebels without a cause will likely take to the streets.

It may sound strange, but wouldn't it be better point scoring should the politicians address issues like preventing floods, turning Terengganu into a tourist destination or look into economically viable projects?

    Yawn, zzzzzzz.

    A GOOD MAN DOES NOTHING.

  20. Of course need the bloggers. Rocky, you are the chief and you go missing?

In fact, it is evident today on the role of bloggers. The mainstream media reported that BN has 30,000 supporters and PR 15,000. But photos from blogs tells a different story. Like that also want to tipu.

10 DALIL MENGAPA WAN AHMAD FARID TIDAK BOLEH MENJADI YB KUALA TERENGGANU

    http://margeemar.blogspot.com/

10 DALIL MENGAPA WAN AHMAD FARID TIDAK BOLEH MENJADI YB KUALA TERENGGANU

Said, mantan Menteri Besar Idris Jusoh and Najib Razak. Wan Farid pasti kalah disabotaj dari tiga penjuru.

    9. Wan Farid terlibat langsung dalam penahanan YM Raja Petra, Sheik Kickdefella, YB Teresa Kok dan pemberita Sin Chew dibawah ISA.

The KT by Election should not be used to gauge the popularity of leaders of the country or the state, Datuk Seri najib Tun Razak said.

KT by-election is NOT about Pakatan Rakyat vs BN.

KT by-elecion is the FINAL confirmatory test for the departure of Abdullah Badawi and that he is no longer needed to head BN.

The first test was the Permatang Pauh by-election.

As Wan Farid is the proxy for Badawi, this FINAL confirmatory test is even more credible.

    a) If Rakyat want Badawi to stay on, vote BN.

    b) If Rakyat confirm to reject Badawi, vote for PAS.

  26. It is sad that the Barisan Nasional still can’t get their act together. The MCA and Gerakan, the two main component parties seem to have no influence on the Chinese. The Barisan Nasional is facing an uphill task. This is the time for all good man to come to the aid of the Barisan Nasional. Voters in Kuala Terengganu surely will not cast their votes wastefully.
