Will Abdullah do the right thing today?

The moment we've all been waiting for. In October 2003, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reported for duty to Malaysians as their fifth PM. It started very well and then things started to fall apart quickly. For the nation, that is.
Today, after more than a year of pressure, Abdullah must decide whether to listen to the wishes of the masses or the insistence of his handful of advisers., If he listens to Umno grassroots and Malaysians in general, he will make an announcement later today that he does not intend to defend his Umno presidency and will allow a power transition to take effect.

If he listens to son, son-in-law, Kalimullah Masheerul Hassan and a few other usual suspects, this man will insist that he is still needed by this nation and will therefore defend his presidency at all cost and continue to be Prime Minister of Malaysia.

And there's nothing WE can do about it.

Just talked to a bankable junior lady colleague who recently sent a Raya card to RPK. She is adamant that Pak Lah will not let go his coveted post. When pressed, so who will challenge him? Her hesitant answer, er, not Najib.

  7. He finally awakes
Into his full eyes he sees
    The events of his time
    Passing by so quickly

    The landslide victory in 2004
He forgot to make it works
When the slides begin its fall
    He sleeps through it all

    Now in 2008
He thought he could make his magic
Sadly his UMNO comrades thought otherwise
He has to be sacrifice for the good of UMNO
It isn’t for the good of the country and her people

UMNO doesn’t care about the people
UMNO wants its members to rule forever
Alienating its grass root members and the public
The 3Ps the menu in the mind every time

His advisors will tell him otherwise
Don’t go yet fight for another time
Let the members know what he wants to do
Like Sami Value work never finishes
    Give me time to complete

    So I take it
    He will defend his presidency
Until the time comes then he will decide
For now he takes a leaf from LKY
‘In the loop don’t try to mess with me’

And the day of the ‘Titanic’
It is numbered on its forehead
    Like the show ‘Frighteners’
The devil will come to collect it

The people will stand in vigils
Praying for the good to come over evil
    Somewhere a new song
    Silently singing in the solitude

Oh yes we can still do something about it...go to the ballot box again, albeit 5yrs later...and put BN out of business permanently so that they become the new opposition instead of the ruling party. Its the only way to show them that if there are no changes in UMNO, the rakyat will just give a bigger victory to Pakatan.

it depends on our perception of what "the right thing" is.

for Abdullah supporters, defending his title is the right thing.meanwhile for his haters and non-supporters,to quit is the right thing.

if i have to choose then i rather give Abdullah another chance to govern the country.no question about it.

He will be subscribing to the old adage "a day in politics is a long time", what more till March 09!

What's not lost to almost everyone is the need for a closure on all these political shennanigans.

The world at large is in financial turmoil and yet here we (or they) are happily playing politics.

It has to stop somewhere so that the country can chart its course, wherever that may lead.

    And No Thailand-Styled reaction, please.

Until and unless he is pushed out of office by "force" thi sman will never gave up the comfortable post of PM where he had used it tot he fullest to help his SIL, son, KaliUlar and gang.
Mark my words that the Sleepy Head will definitely announce today that the country needed him badly to do all the reforms.

The nation must tell him that please FO from the surface of the earth because he had damaged the nation by time by helping his SIL, SON, KaliUlar and gang.

  21. Mat Sabu,

Sorry to disappoint you but I won't be consultant to his 4th Floor. In fact, I have already started the ball rolling against any attempt to create an equivalent of a 4th Floor for whoever replaces Pak Lah (pls read my previous posting Najib's 4th Floor of Oct 3).

There is an effort to create some sort of a presidential committee or a committee of elders within Umno to advise the next President. This, I was told, is aimed at ensuring that the Umno president does not act as if the party and the country are his own and his family's properties.

Of course all these may be overtaken by events on Oct 13 if it turns out that Anwar has the numbers.

    Thank you.

Kontrak dan masa depan keluarga lagi penting bro! Dia dgn keluarga dia jer betul, org lain semua salah. Tgkt 4 kata Najib salah sbb dia pengarah PRU tp KJ nak bertanding Ketua Pemuda kata dia ada pengalaman jadi pengarah PRU. Nah ambik kau, nak cari salah org aje tp menantu kau pun buat haru jugak. Semua ahli pemimpin Umno dan keluarga Paklah tahu KJ susun calon pilihanraya sampai BN catat sejarah kalah teruk. Kenapa nak salahkan Najib. Skrg nak salahkan Najib la, Muhyiddin la, Mahathir la. Ikut suka hati kau la Bro. Aku harap Paklah pertahan jawatan dan Najib declare lawan jawatan Presiden. Jgn lak Najib kata tak nak dan setuju peralihan 2010 tu. Dulu semua org sayang Paklah sbb dia Mr Nice Guy dan Ulamak tp lepas tu jadi Gusdur, hancur negara dibuatnya. Org Melayu/Umno dah tak angkat pot org label Gusdur ni. SOKONG RENTAP BRO

    Rocky,

You are quite naive in saying "steps are being taken to prevent 4th floor committees from being set up by having a committee of elders instead".

The committee of elders then become like a Communist party politburo! No difference. It will be these presidential committee/elders who will then rule the country, emasculating the prime minister.

Please understand political theory: if the prime minister is not strong, then the locus of power could go to such a committee of elders, which may be worse.

So don't be too happy just yet. We are in for more trouble.

According to Datuk Richard Leete ( From Kampung to Twin Towers -Oxford 2007), Absolute powerty has been eradicated except among a small proportion of Bumiputera during the Premiership of AAB

So, please do not write off AAB totally, please compared apple with apple. When you compared what TDM has done in his first 5 years of his premiership- just splitting UMNO and sending people to Kamunting. AAB should not push out of office-ikut adatlah.

You think, Najib is much better than AAB? Talk about Mukriz, what about his contract with Telekom? He get it just before TDM step down. RM300million-optic fibre contract) Politicians are all the same...

  49. Rosmah Bakal Perdana Menteri Malaysia? – Bahagian Satu: Belanja Lumayan, Anak Suami Tak Dilayan
