Ahmad Ismail gets 3 years

update, midnight: “All components parties must be firm. If any of their members make comments which whip up racial sentiment and cause anger among the races, and which could jeopardise ties between Barisan component parties, they must take disciplinary action." - Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Read The Star's full update Ahmad Ismail's suspension, here.

Original article:
3-year suspension; Stripped of all party posts.
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has come down hard on Ahmad Ismail for his "Chinese squatters" remarks, for refusing to apologize, for ripping a component party leader's photograph, for being openly racist.

I hope this news is not received with glee by any party or race, and that it will douse the racial fire that's been scorching our hearts.

  2. This spells the end for the PM who hails from Penang. Ahmad is free to campaign for a much better candidate for President without the fear of being sacked!

Wow - what a 'sacrifice', as you term it. A suspension for likening the chinese to Jews who want to control politics and the economy, for openly asking for a component party to leaver BN. Badawi is a joke. Nobody bothers to listen to him anymore. But i will be forever grateful for him because if not for his tremendous weakness, half of the nonsense that has now been unearthed about the corruptionin the government would not have emerged.

FYI - there isn't nor has there ever been any 'racial fire' stoking in my heart. From your post, it is obvious that it is in yours.

And because of this, i will never return to this blog ever again.

    You have no credibility left.

Its politics, i dont feel anyone out there has a "burning heart" on the latest fiasco and its an internal BN matter, so i for dont subscribe to your latest post like many others that i know.

The fact of the matter is we are all migrants and have settled here for hundreds if not thousands of years, its been recorded.

So, i guess none of us is superior nor inferior to each other.

As usual, politics of race and religion yang bikin keadaan tak senonoh, dah la tak laku and its time we move on.

For those of you who have nothing better to do than incite racial issues, please leave us all alone, we just want to move on with our lives and focus on bread and butter issues.

    shalom.

Poor Ismail. He was just telling the truth, nothing but the truth. Malaysia was formerly known as TANAH MELAYU. The Malays sacrifice by changing the name to Malaysia. Perhaps it should be change back to Tanah Melayu. To those who look at Ismail as Racist, dont look anywhere, you are a racist too. Who IS NOT? Especially when someone is trying to deny your right in your last frontier, your own mother soil! Takkan Melayu hilang di dunia. Fire must be fight with FIRE.

In Memory of Ahmad Ismail & His Ilk as a Potential UMNO Leader/s - Racist to the Core

CHANGE FOR THE BETTER (OR BE DAMNED & ROT IN HELL)

Well, I cannot blame those members of Gerakan and MCA for their dilemma now. Both respective parties are now far too weakened compared to the Chinese-dominant DAP, which has 28 MPs. The MCA and Gerakan will become minor insignificant partners of BN in the opposition in the event the Pakatan Rakyat comes to power; or if they remain independent, a feeble voice in the wilderness.

The truth is, the Malaysian political landscape has changed dramatically after the March 8 elections. I hope UMNO members are also reading this: for if they do not realise what Malaysians want, they too will be in dilemma eventually. Unless they prefer to bring about another May 13 again like they did before, imposing emergency rule and thus perpetrating themselves in power.

As for Gerakan and MCA, it is sad to say that the options open to them are now extremely limited. It is always important for members of political parties to know when to act. If they acted late or halfheartedly, then there is nothing much to be salvaged. Take Gerakan as an example. I am sure Gerakan members and some of their leaders were unhappy and dissatisfied with their senior partner in BN, viz, UMNO, long before the last election. However, neither their leaders nor their rank and file acted in unison. If Gerakan had pulled out of BN before the March 8 election and joined the Pakatan then, they will not only survive the election but also win more seats than before. Unfortunately they did not act and now, even if they were to pull out, what can they do. If they were to act alone, they will suffer further now. Besides any belated action now will only help the BN (more so UMNO) as they will dilute the opposition votes. If they join the Pakatan, how are they suppose to demand for seats in the next election. Would PKR and DAP be willing to release the seats for them to contest. Therefore, I do not blame Gerakan for their predicament at this critical juncture in time.

As for the other Chinese-dominant component in the BN, sometimes I wonder whether MCA is a political party or a kopitiam talkshop. Every step taken by UMNO which were not race neutral, goes unchallenged and we only hear wimpish protests here and there. Yes, the MCA's former and present leadership said they always discuss sensitive issues behind closed doors and argue privately as they call it an internal matter and not wanting to wash dirty linen in public or hurt the feelings and sentiments of their UMNO brethren. But public perception of the outcome is always very important and it goes to show that whatever tactic and method adopted by MCA, they failed miserably to gain public trust and confidence. In spite of that they did not change. After many years, from a strong second partner, playing second fiddle anyway, they are reduced to just another minor partner in the coalition. This is not only bad for MCA but also UMNO as you can see in the recent election. The voting public, especially the Chinese, perceived UMNO as the big bullyboy.

To MIC, I also wonder if the members realise that their party is no longer relevant in the changed environment. I hope UMNO members will also learn from this episode before it is too late for them. Same for IPF and all the other minor Indian parties. I suppose the only noble and logical thing for UMNO to do is to call for a merger of UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan et al into a single multi-racial party. This will not only solve the dilemma of Gerakan and MCA but also show and convince Malaysians at large the sincerity of UMNO in wanting to adopt changes and reforms to solve the country's problems; and evince UMNO's sincerity to ban racial politics per se.

    Whatever the case may be:

Malaysians are sick of RACIAL & RACIST POLITICS
Malaysians are sick of INERTIA & INACTION
Malaysians are sick of NO CHANGES & REFORMS
Malaysians are sick of CRONYISM & CORRUPTION

So for all members of UMNO, MCA, GERAKAN, MIC, IPF and all the Sabah and Sarakan political parties, the political survival of your parties depend on your actions and or inactions. Champion for a single multiracial party and elect non-racist leaders (regardless of their race) to lead Malaysia into a new era of change and reforms. If UMNO members put the country above themselves, Malaysians at large will certainly response to them. So my fellow Malaysians from all the political parties in BN, it is now up to you to act decisively or never. If you remain passive and nothing is done, I am certain UMNO will suffer the same fate as Gerakan, MIC, MCA and IPF. Similar to those political parties in Sabah and Sarawak. We Malaysians are watching your every move and every step.

I do not agree that Ahmad Ismail was a mole planted by DSAI as speculated by some pundits. If that was the case, you could argue so many before him who utter racist statements were also moles and agents provocateur. But they were not. They were mere opportunists.

The fact remains that Malaysia is still a less-developed country that practice narrow-minded racial politics. Such racist practices are endorsed at the highest level of the Malay-centric leadership, meaning UMNO and their myopic Ketuanan Melayu ideology. That is why I said, we are still a long way to achieving developed-country status. Unless and until the leadership in this country have the political will and courage to take a bold step in banning racial politics, we will continue to have Malay, Chinese and Indian leaders practising racial politics which is woefully unfortunate. These are not true leaders of foresight but short-term opportunists. As you know, the respective parties' elections are just around the corner and those vying for higher positions within the party would want to be seen to be very vocal and buffoonish in championing their own ethnic rights. So going against another race will be seen as defending their own race. Remember bathing the keris in Chinese blood episode.

I hope the members of those racial parties are mature enough to vote for farsighted leaders who will bring about goodwill and harmony in this country. If all the members did that, they will send a STRONG MESSAGE to their leadership that they do not condone or tolerate racial politics. This is one way to bring our country together. Remember members of Malay, Chinese and Indian parties, please put the country above all else and bring about positive development to our beloved country. BAN AND ABOLISH RACIAL POLITICS.

In politics somehow we expect to see a perfect personality as a poltical leader. We all know such people are virtually non-existent but we continue to have such expectations. This is not just unique in this country as such expectations are the same all over the world. So unless our perceptions altered or something dramatic changed within us which I doubt, we still expect our leaders to be "perfect". In this context, it is very unfortunate that Dr Chua Soi Lek does not fit in this category. I salute him for his quick action to admit his guilt. But the fact remain that what he did was wrong and morally unacceptable in the public eye. So my advice to Dr Chua is to move on. If you want to be in politics, you have to play power-broker and curry favour and influence in the background. Believe me, you will only weaken the party further if you struggle to take over the MCA's leadership.

I am not saying the others are far better than Chua Soi Lek. It could be just that they are not caught or they were lucky. As for Ong Tee Keat, well he looks good for the job - with the reform agenda in mind. But MCA is a grossly weakened party and I do not know how much he can possibly do to revive and rejuvenate the MCA's fortunes once he inherits it. Personally, I think any leader who took over the helm in MCA should engage actively with UMNO and other BN parties to merge into a single multi-racial party. I believe both Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek have advocated this concept in their own different ways. But this would be the natural way to go for the long term survival of BN.

As for Koh Tsu Koon, I believe he is a very nice man. Too nice, in fact, to be in politics. Whatever, he failed in his leadership role in Gerakan. He should consider retiring from the political arena and goes into education which I believe, he will be more eminent and successful. As for Gerakan, as I have mentioned before, I think Gerakan has lost its raison d'etre and relevance. The only logical step for them is to advocate for a single multi-racial party. They could take the initiative to start with the rest of the smaller parties within BN; and hopefully this could influence the other major parties in time to come. But in politics, time is of the vital essence.

Today, I feel very sad and disappointed to see the boorish and ill-mannered behavior of those UMNO members led by Ahmad Ismail in Penang. They are pushing racial politics to the fore again. Which is very dangerous and unhealthy for the country. I hope this will never happen again. As long as this country endorses racial politics, you will have in future another Ahmad Ismail clone, and yet more of his ilk, again giving racist statements to incite and inflame racial hatred and resentment among the communities. It will encourage the other races doing the same. That is why such parties should be stopped right in their tracks and abolished. Believe me, if UMNO were to take the bold and courageous role to merge all the parties into one single multiracial party, they will put the Pakatan in a spot. They will move from being a weak and battered party to a predominant leadership role again within BN. But will they? I am positive Malaysians, be they Malays, Chinese, Indians or whoever, will response to this very positively. If BN fail or do not response decisively they will lose the next election. But they must have another May 13 in mind for us?

SO MALAYSIANS regardless who you are, please send a STRONG AND CLEAR MESSAGE to your respective leaders that you do not CONDONE or TOLERATE racial politics. By doing so, you should vote all myopic politicians and racist leaders out from your respective parties.

Thanks to Taiping06 for the above analysis.

Sincerely, from everydog has his day

Why the double standard by this GOVERNMENT?

If it had been PAS DAP or any of the bloggers, the police would have paid a visit and make an arrest and charged for racial incitement.

No, for a seditious act, tearing the photo of a leader of a component party of Govt, it is a slap on the wrist.

Ahmad Ismail should have been SACKED from UMNO, and arrested and charged in court for RACIAL INCITEMENT.

Pak Lah has made UMNO person as MORE EQUAL than others.

SINGAPORE: Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should rethink his transition plan to step down by 2010 as the timeframe was too long.

The transition plan revealed by Abdullah two months ago, he claimed, had “sunk away” and people were not thinking about it any more.

“The year 2010 is too (far away),” he told a news conference on the sidelines of the Forbes Global CEO Conference here on Wednesday.

Let's talk about racism. I am a Muslim but NOT a Malay. These are 2different things. I belong to a very small minority group and ALWAYS classify myself under "others". Never have I ever claimed to be a Malay cos I'm not. I'm very proud of my ancestry as my ancestors have contributed much to world history, culture and civilisation. Malays are "midgets" in comparison where world history and civilisation is concerned.

Anyway, the point is I've been very unfortunate to have experienced discrimination and racism at the hands of BOTH the Malays and the Chinese. I was even denied a scholarship as I was categorically told I should have stated that I am a Malay in my birth certificate. Yet I will not say ALL Malays nor ALL Chinese are racists. Nor do I discriminate against others as my religion teaches me that we are all equal.

Will there be a great difference if another political party takes over? I pray so but I am not optimistic. Think Singapore.

    Ahmad Ismail defying as ever
He just never wants to learn
    A simple apology
It takes to make a man

    UMNO takes too long
    Losing control of the direction
    After much hue and cry
    Finally meted out suspension
    When other BN parties pressured
    For the disciplinary action

    UMNO should clean it up
The members who are racists never want to toe the line
Get these people out of the party
    If UMNO wants to survive

    We are immigrants
Like it or not don’t use it for political expediency
This country we came generations ago
The home to 27 million people

The racists of Ahmad Ismail made up
It shouldn’t be allowed to rear its ugly head
It is better to get these people out into the open
Don’t let them hide behind party skirt

Now the laws should take its course
6 police reports act on it
    Don’t discriminate the case
Does it now take him to court?

    "Ahmad Ismail gets 3 years"

I don't think this sentence is sufficient. Surely his "crime" is much more serious and demands a much heavier punishment, even dismissal. Further, he remains defiant.

So he can now be a loose cannon now that his membership is suspended. Who controls him now? Does he need UMNO? He says he has substantial support for his behaviour and he appears to be right. So is the problem solved?

Has the UMNO leadership come out of this stronger? Or weaker?

Bila bukan Melayu sentuh soal hak Melayu, katanya tidak perkauman. tetapi apabila orang Melayu timbul sikit soal sejarah mereka, katanya Melayu ni perkauman. Kerana orang Melayu ni terlalu berbudi bahasa, lemah lembut, sopan santun, cakap berlapik, mudah beralah..maka mudah dipijaknya orang Melayu kerana disangka lemah.

How do you expect any party or race to receive this news? How do you receive a proven criminal (I am not refering to Ahmad Ismail) being punished by the court of law?

Even though I honestly think Ahmad Ismail deserves more severe punishment than just suspension, I doubt this suspension will douse any racial fire. Maybe it will create more. It's in the nature of some groups...

    Dear Sirs,

RE: 1. COMMONWEALTH ETHNIC INDIAN PEACE LOVING SUBJECTS IN MALAYSIA PERSECUTED BY GOVERNMENT BACKED ISLAMIC EXTREMIST VIOLENT ARMED TERRORIST WHO LAUNCHED A PRE DAWN VIOLENT ARMED ATTACK AND DESTROYED THE KG JAWA MARIAMAN HINDU TEMPLE AT 4.00 A.M THIS MORNING (15.11.2007).

    2. APPEAL FOR U.K TO MOVE EMERGENCY U.N RESOLUTION CONDEMNING “ETHNIC CLEANSING” IN MALAYSIA.

    3. APPEAL TO REFER MALAYSIA TO THE WORLD COURT AND INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT FOR CRIMES AGAINST IT’S OWN ETHNIC MINORITY INDIANS.

We refer to the above critical matters in Malaysia but which generally gets the least attention locally even by the Opposition parties, NGO’s, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and the media for this community is generally regarded as politically insignificant, do not draw local or international funding and are deemed not pressworthy. To the contrary the Malaysian government has successfully projected itself to the world as a modern Islamic thinking country which is not true.

The ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia were brought in to Malaysia by the British some 200 over years ago. Since independence in 1957 the Malaysian Indians have been permanently colonialised by the Islamic fundamentalist and Malay chauvinists UMNO led Malaysian government.

Among the recent atrocities committed by this government are as follows:-

1.100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide. Despite numerous appeals, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission has refused to hold a Public Inquiry. The UMNO controlled Malaysian courts struck off a victim’s public interest civil suit for a Public Inquiry to be held without even the said UMNO controlled government having to file in their defence. The UMNO controlled Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police refused to investigate and / or initiate an inquest into the death of at least six Indians in this tragedy despite.

    2. Every week one person at average is killed in a shot to kill policy and in every 2 weeks one person is killed in police custody. About 60% of these victims are Indians though they form only 8% of the Malaysian population.

    3. In every three weeks one Hindu temple is demolished in Malaysia.

The latest being the demolishment of the Mariaman temple in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam, Selangor early this morning (15.11.2007) and the next being the (Mutaiya) Hindu temple in Sungai Petani scheduled for the 29.11.2007.

A violent armed pre down attack at 4.00a.m this morning was launched by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government backed by about 600 police, riot police, Islamic extremist and armed terrorists which completely destroyed this temple.

In an attack two weeks ago, uniformed police, riot police and city Council officers hurled rocks and attacked unarmed Hindu devotees with knives, sticks and iron rods.

At least 20 Hindu devotees were seriously injured and 19 arrested including 4 of their United Kingdom trained lawyers in direct violation of Article 5 (Right to life) Article 8 (Equality) Article 11 (Freedom of Religion) Section 295 (defiling a place of worship), Section 296 (disturbing a religious assembly), 298A(causing racial disharmony) and Section 441(criminal trespass) of the Malaysian Penal Code.

These authorities are plagued by an above the law mindset and in fact liberally take the law into their own hands. These atrocities however does not happen to almost all Islamic places of worship. Please visit www.policewatchmalaysia.com for further and better particulars.

    4. State sponsored direct discrimination against the Indians in Public University intakes, Indian (Tamil) Schools, skills training institutes, civil service and private sector job opportunities, business and license opportunities and in almost all other aspects of daily life.

Despite our hundreds of letters, appeals and pleas to the Malaysian King and Sultans, the Prime Minister, Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, Ministers, Chief Ministers and the latest being our letters to the Prime Minister dated 29.10.2007 and 30.10.2007 and to the Attorney General dated 1.11.2007 the Malaysian authorities are only proceeding with greater ferocity and with impunity with very little regard for the Federal Constitution and laws of Malaysia. So please help us.

    CONCLUSION

We fear that this peace loving Indian community of Tamil origin having been pushed to the corner and the persecution getting worse by the day may be forced to into terrorism in a matter of time as what has happened to the Sri Lankan Tamils.

    APPEAL

On our part we are committed to a peaceful and lawful struggle and pray and appeal that the Government of the United Kingdom:-

    1. Moves an emergency United Nations resolution condemning these state sponsored atrocities and persecutions of Malaysian Indians in Malaysia.

    2. Refers Malaysia to the World Court and the International Criminal Court for Crimes against it’s own ethnic minority Indians

    Thank You,

    Yours Faithfully

    Anonymous,
The punishment is not befitting the crime, 3 years suspension is just a slap on the wrist. It just goes to show ISA is not applicable to UMNO, it is only for non umno people. Secondly the punishment also reflects how weak Badawi is, at this point. Funny we never heard a word from Shit Hamid the Home Minister, he was so vocal on sodomy but here is a umno goon making serious racial remarks and Hamid has suddenly lost his voice. If MIC,MCA or Gerakan member made such a remark about Malays, it would have been expulsion from BN but this Buto Ahmad gets three years of suspension from voting rights and from holding any post, the Kangaroo court would have come up with more severe punishment, like expulsion from the party. Well we have to forgive Badawi, he is barely keeping his head above water these days. Perhaps umno should have send Buto Ahmad Ismail on a ethic study course overseas, maybe next time he opens his mouth it will not be so foul.

PKR has been retained under ISA and 3 news media (including Sin Chew which is no surprise to me)were ordered to explain within 1 week or faced closure. So, the conclusion from the UMNO run government is, rakyay MUST keep listening but must NOT discussing or reporting an important piece of Malaysian "history" conveyed by an UMNOputra, who was "NO racist" and therefore ISA is not warranted. Well, that's their conclusion, lesson taught and learnt and my conclusion is, I will make sure I vote in the next GE, after all that's the only rakyat's right left in the country, enjoy it while it last...

3 years suspension from party and roaming free in the Malaysian streets to cause more troubles. I think this idiot ahmad should be banished to his origin india together with his senseless thugs who wanted a journalist to be shot. These thugs do not understand the essence of the Malaysian constitution, the constitution do not mentioned bumiputera, pendatang and penumpang. These thugs are the nation No 1 enemies, these thugs are still roaming the nation. Hope the divine will save the nation from these thugs. Long live Malaysia! Son of God & Not Son of Soil
