Mukhriz: You are so hasty, Mr PM

Fuel hike should have been done in stages. Mukhriz Mahathir, already facing possible disciplinary action from Umno for his criticisms of the Prime Minister and party President, has expressed disappointment with Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for not taking the people's interest into consideration in announcing the hefty increase in fuel prices.

He said the decision taken was "tidak bijak". Read here, and watch the Astro clip below.

We agree with Mukhriz that the PM flip-flopped yet again - first declaring no imminent fuel rise and then backtracking on the ban on its usage by foreigners.

And all he could advise was to change our lifestyle!
Maybe he can lead by example for once by:

1.Stopping all these overseas trips (which are of dubious benefit anyway).

2.Cancelling the lease of the PM's private jet (reported maintenance RM0.5 million monthly)

3.Travelling by commercial carriers when overseas trips are unavoidable. Give his son-in-law some revenue by using Air-Asia!

Harga minyak sepanjang zaman.. (dalam masa 18 tahun - sejak 1990)

    Zaman Mahathir
    sebelum 90 - RM 0.89
    tahun 1990 - RM 1.10 (kenaikan RM 0.21)
    01/10/2000 - RM 1.20 ( kenaikan RM 0.10)
    20/10/2001 - RM 1.30 (kenaikan RM 0.10)
    01/05/2002 - RM 1.32 ( kenaikan RM 0.02)
    31/10/2002 - RM 1.33 (kenaikan RM 0.01)
    01/03/2003 - RM 1.35 ( kenaikan RM 0.02)

    Zaman Pak Lah
    01/05/2004 - RM 1.37 (kenaikan RM 0.02)
    01/10/2004 - RM 1.42 ( kenaikan RM 0.05)
    05/05/2005 - RM 1.52 (kenaikan RM 0.10)
    31/07/2005 - RM 1.62 ( kenaikan RM 0.10)

    28/02/2006 - RM 1.92 (kenaikan RM 0.30)
    05/06/2008 - RM 2.70 (kenaikan RM 0.78)

    Nota :
    (Skrip dulu-dulu)
    1. Kenaikan minyak masih rendah berbanding mana2 pun negara ASEAN.
    2. Kerajaan akan pastikan kenaikan tidak membebankan
    3. Kerajaan tidak mampu lagi menampung subsidi.

    3. Bila kita susah, kenalah sama-sama susah, bila masa senang, 'kita saling membantu'.
    4. Penjimatan subsidi RM13.7 billion 'dipulangkan balik pada rakyat'.
    5. Langkah ini adalah 'situasi menang-menang'.

  12. Brader rocky,

    RAKYAT MENDERITA

Melihat kepada keceriaan dan muka selamba (angkuh?)
Perdana Menteri DS Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ketika mengumumkan

Jika diukur tahap kejayaan, Perdana Menteri memang berjaya

mulanya dinafi tetapi kemudian berlaku mengejut. Akhirnya BN

Hanya satu hari, apa salahnya !!!!

Para penyorok minyak mungkin mengambil kesempatan, tetapi
berapalah kerugiannya jika dibanding kemudahan membeli minyak

RM 28.00 Untuk setahun tambahan perbelanjaan petrol melebihi
    RM 2,000.00

    menambah kesangsaraan rakyat.

Apa maknanya slogan SEJAHTERA, AMAN , MAKMUR jika rakyat bertambah derita.

erperancangan, bukan cara 'adhoc'. Rakyat merana melihat
    PM yang tidak berwibawa.

If really want to compares, look at how Singapore runs its country. Singapore has no crude oil, no land to plant pineapple, rubber trees, palm oil, rice, We have tin mines, sand , timberyet not enough to feed our people? Where the money all goes?? Ini memeningkan kepala saya. Apa jentera pemerintah sekarang.

(Macam kerugian Bank Negara semasa beliau menguruskan pertukaran wang asing)

Kita kena buang dua orang dalam pemerintahan kita, iaitu Menteri kewangan kedua dan juga pakar penasihat Petronas kerana meminta harga minyak dinaikkan dengan alasan Petronas tak mampu menanggung kos bahanapi berkenaan (Ooops siapa agaknya penasihat petronas ini)

TDM has suggested so many times that we should peg our money to euro this will keep our currency strong! if dollah listen, we will not be facing this kind of situation, not this bad. to me, it is good to compare with other people (country), but those comparisons must be viewed as a whole. just like yb mukhriz said. to those anwaris, listen to all sides whether you love or loath that person. in islam they said use ur 'akal', am i right?! the way that TDM explained on fuel subsidy is the best so far! but then again, pak lah announcement of his erection day with Genie(JIN) is ok, in fact i wish him best of luck, announcement of election day, still ok...good luck! but this, it's just bad luck.

Is he nuts or what..Reason why Petronas is doing well is because there is no politician involved in the decision making and the CEO can do his job more efficiently. It's now one of the biggest oil company in Asia and been paying good taxes and dividend to the Govt, getting good rating from credit agency and more than 40% of the income from overseas..If we agree to this moron Raja Petra suggestion, Petronas will be run by the politician and it will be destroyed in no time..Never expect Raja Petra to be so stupid to come up with that..

  37. RM2.70 per litre and complaining? Malaysia must be one of the cheapest places left on earth where you can get petrol at such a low price compared to income.

When I heard the former price was RM1.92 (app. 50 US cents), I was thinking Malaysia must be pretending it's one of the oil-rich Arab countries.

I think it's okay Europeans are paying more (in Berlin the price per litre is RM7.48) as this forces people to walk or cycle more (good for their health), take public transport (less pollution) and buy smaller fuel-saving cars.

It's a blessing in disguise so we don't deplete the earth of its natural resources as though there's no tomorrow and pollute our environment without thinking of future generations.

The Americans are paying MR3.26 for their litre when, income and consumption-wise, they should be paying double as not only are they one of the richest people in the world, they are using 30% of the earth's resources while making up only 5% of its population.

All of you back home who are angry over the price hike, it's high time you live in the real world too. Stop throwing tantrums like the spoilt Americans.

This Mukhriz is like father like son. Another thorn in umno's flesh. So easy for him to kenakan Pak Lah, anyway it isnt his father as the PM now that's why.

Evryone's talking, but what about actions? PROTEST ar? Is that the best Pakatan people can think of?

    Saudara Brew
When fuel increase was talked about various postings and brick-brats hurled seemed unfair which was pointed out. Since then have learnt and understood about these pent up frustrations.
This can only lead to an apology when one assumes society does not seem to know the big picture, hence content of postings earlier..
Am surprised when learnt that one can’t purchase a car paying cash, it’s against the norm of things, and not encouraged?
Contract hire purchase like what’s available back home (gathered that yourself had served there during your career - BBC or with Reporters Sans Frontieres) is unheard of here.
So one has to resort to financing facilities - seven or five-year repayment.
Pay absurd prices for cars despite rolling out national car, which I am told a better version is available in the UK due to stringent quality control.
And reason being why cars cost more has something to do with AP (am trying to figure that one).
And was also told its not like Singapore’s COE. Even that is so transparent it’s frigging unbelievable.
And then one has to secure road tax (still trying to figure what that is for).
Pay toll tax throughout the country. Driving license fee every year.
What was shocking was when told even prices quoted for the national cars internal items like floor mats & registration plates are far more expensive when billed by from the car manufacturer… the so called hidden costs.
And then pay exorbitant parking fees… Some of the parking bays like the ones near your West End district of Heritage Row and Beach Club are “privatized”…
U know when Ken Livingstone introduced the famed STG5 toll to overcome London’s congestion charge five years ago, he assured that every penny would be used to improve London’s transportation system.
Besides that disabled were given hefty discounts and not discriminated.
Your public transportation leaves much to be desired. Schedules and timing go out the window despite having yellow bus lanes. And the irony of all those bus graveyards…
Then you have the tube service that doesn’t take you everywhere and the inter/inner city trains…
So all these forking out for these privatization projects has really instilled a sense of bitterness…
And the breakfast read was about how your city cabinet officials are on a three nation trip abroad to learn town planning…
So one can only empathize with the man on the street for their resentment…
Someone mentioned how yr cabs would also seek/demand a fare increase… And these are the same blokes who scalp and have a nonchalant attitude towards public service…

    re: roxanne

"RM2.70 per litre and complaining? Malaysia must be one of the cheapest places left on earth where you can get petrol at such a low price compared to income.

When I heard the former price was RM1.92 (app. 50 US cents), I was thinking Malaysia must be pretending it's one of the oil-rich Arab countries.

I think it's okay Europeans are paying more (in Berlin the price per litre is RM7.48) as this forces people to walk or cycle more (good for their health), take public transport (less pollution) and buy smaller fuel-saving cars."

except in m'sia the distance between where you work and where you live are rarely within walking distance and public transportation is unreliable/dirty/unsafe/crowded.
So forgive us if we're not rippling with enthusiasm and offering libations.

Dear Mukhriz, if you think Dollah"s move is tak bijak, how biut this from Khairy Jamaluddin :

KJ said traders must display the price lists of basic consumer items so that the public could make comparisons.

My thoughts ; Mau kompare apa... mana-manapun, harga minyak RM2.71. Hang ni, kerja tak...oh sori brader, da lupa, muh nikan, mamat yg dapat loan dari peniaga cina, beli ECM Libra. Porah tak malu ke, pemuda UMNO!!, nak undi depa lagi ke?

KJ: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs must also increase its workforce so it can effectively monitor the price of goods and act immediately against errant traders who indiscriminately increase prices.

My Thoughts : By increasing, man power at the ministry, the Government wage bill will go up, and instead of plugging the budget deficit it will expand it. On hindsight, youmay arque, that can do inter ministry transfer of staff. But if you do that, then you acknoledge, that the government has excess staff.

By the way, brader KJ,hang ni, dari uni OXFORD ke, dari Uni OX? Cadangan brader, memang mantap, maklumlah bila yob ni kelur uni, jadi hos TV, bukannya kerja dgn Morgan Stanleyke, UBSke, Pricewaterhouseke, CIMBke... Terima Kasih ajela,KJ, brader pandai, cerdik, dan bijak...sama bunyi dgn cemerlang, gemilang dan terbilang.

  67. cyh. Then, money from Petronas should be used to improve public transportation instead of encouraging people to drive more through subsidies.

The congestion and pollution problems during rush hours in KL and Penang do not go away by itself. Toll is NOT the solution. In the long run, the fees will get higher and higher (like in London) and before long only the rich can pay to get anywhere.

It's all about changing the mindset of people. We should not tolerate bad service and as you put it "unreliable/dirty/unsafe/crowded" public transport.

The majority of car-owners (the middle-income and the rich) have only their self-interest at heart and as long as petrol is cheap, they will continue to make lukewarm efforts to improve the lot of those (mostly the poor and students) who have long suffered the "it-comes-when-it-comes" public transport.

Just like in the last GE when the rakyat pushed for the kind of govt they want (I'm already seeing a more responsive govt), it's through the people's push for the kind of public transport they want that it can be realised.

The govt should not be caught napping again. It should put providing cheap, clean and efficient public transportation as its top priority in the next ten years as natural resources do not last forever.

And I just read Anwar promised to bring down petrol prices once he's PM. This demagogue is really desperate to be PM. He's ignoring what is happening in the real world to lure Malaysians into a dream one. Remember the Greek myth of an enchantress (Circe) who turn men into swine? Anwar wants to turn Malaysians into pigs and pollute the world further with his promise.

  68. I wrote in reply to TDM's posting on his site but never was published. Hai, site sendiri pun ade sensor....!

So i decided to post it here on my favourite blog site of all..... thx Rocky!

TDM on RapidKL vs SCOMI - The truth!

In my prayers i seek the blessings of Allah on you and auntie Toh Puan.....!

Speechless i am to the goings on today where i see man and women of our nation become more vocal in their expressions. So deep is the wound of our people that today it erupts like a volcano spilling its larva. The manner that these grievances are relayed come forth in many forms, the intellects more composed; the common folk - just blunt!

A media such as this so easily accessed and used to influence the minds of the populace. No more do we need to gather people in masses reaching their attention with mikes and speakers within a closed environment; today we only sit behind a screen and let the fingers do the talking. Puzzling to the fore …… everyone believes it!

Uncle Tun Sir, having know you, it does not surprise me that you too have now resorted to using this Jewish promoted technology in all its capability to inject influence unto those masses we identify as humans. Humans who are easily swayed by mind play and rhetorics of theater. Boy! If we can start ‘World War III’ with the internet why can we not split a nation …….

However I must say, Uncle Tun Sir, feeling that it is not always you managing this site of yours ….. caricature must be reflecting the composer. The writings you provide no matter how negative it is, should reflect writings that are composed by an intellect, a dignitary, a premier, a leader, a professional - researched and justified. Not those of the common folk whose past time is to blog in between the chat and porn channels they spend time over.

Uncle Tun Sir, this piece about Rapid KL and SCOMI is really far from truth. How beautiful to compose in such a manner with allowing gaps in the statements for assumptions to be made by the reader. Yes, you don’t really tell them, you just lead them ……..

Funny isn’t it Uncle Tun that the writer did not start his/her story a tad earlier in time ……
    - as was it not YOU who actually pursued and supported the company SCOMI (then MTrans) during your tenure.

    - was it not YOU who actually convinced the government to implement the monorail projects and later instructed the govt banks to bail the companies over the economic downturn period.

    - was it not YOU who instructed the government machinery to come up with the centralized bus system.

    - was it not YOU who approved the dealing of all this undertaking with foreign companies and the likes of local magnates TS Vincent Tan, David Chew, Soh Chen Wen, wa! Can name a lot more but I’m sure you can recall…… we have a picture of you Uncle Tun Sir on the wall of our factory officiating the factory in Rawang with the old management.

    - was it not YOU who provided Pak Lah the vehicle to provide for his well being as premier of the nation.

    - was it not YOU who organized the certain Chinese individuals to provide for Pak Lah the means to acquire such company as SCOMI.

I am saddened by the fact that your blog is using your very own doings to fire at a man whose only guilt is his ignorance. This is definitely not the type of game that a man like Pak Lah will play or is able to play. Punches below the belt, stabbing behind the back …… Tuah and Jebat maybe, but Pak Lah is only Pak Lah.

Not ashamed I am to say that today I am an employee of SCOMI, in-fact I am more then just an employee – I am SCOMI …..the SCOMI that you Uncle Tun Sir once before structured and supported as part of your agenda.

The number of busses contracted to SCOMI is all far from truth …… the contract SCOMI has today with RapidKL is one that was executed during its MTrans days before SCOMI bought the company over. Even than it was never for 1000 busses. The government distributed its contracts amongst all the players in the industry. A beautiful picture that was posted together with this blog, but if zoomed in you will notice that this is basically a yard for busses that Rapid has no means to have repaired for reasons of exorbitant cost or irreplaceable parts. SCOMI provides the storage area at no cost to Rapid.

SCOMI’s purchase of MTrans was never at a discount as the owners in name or as nominee after having being bailed out by the government was to realize another capital appreciation with the take over. SCOMI on the other hand was required to undertake large borrowings for the cause, against which it is still paying the banks today. SCOMI saved the governments debt by transferring it over, but really what contracts did SCOMI receive in return? The governments coffers today are highly oxygenated that even Rapid or SPNB for that matter is struggling to provide for their expenditure.

Yes, we work hard and prayed for Penang Monorail, whether it involved the powers from above or not is not for me to reconcile, BUT it was to be a MALAYSIAN product. Only 3 monorail fabricators world wide and we are one of them…… and Uncle Tun Sir …… you initiated this….. today we have Malaysians who form the engineering, design and R&D team for this monorail. We charter the waters to market this Malaysian product …..

So really,..... why are you spitting back at this very same instrument of growth and prosperity that only you once initiated before? Uncle Tun Sir, if you are personal in your accusations ….. please be selective to the subject matter that you table to your audience. I work hard day and night not for one MAN, but for the good of mankind, my race, my country and Allah subhanaWatta’alla.

Uncle Tun Sir, I am saddened by this writings that are associated to you. I have served you and I have shared your visions but I never before saw this side of you …… punting with the games of the common folk.

    May Allah bless you!
