Palanivel: Dr M should remember his roots

MIC deputy president G Palanivel today slammed former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad for accusing the party's long term chief S Samy Vellu of being a racist and warned such statements could fan deeper racial sentiments.

In a statement released today, Palanivel also said that the former prime minister's comments on Hindraf were short in accuracy and insensitive to the sentiment of Indians in the country.

"It is sad to note that Mahathir is not aware of the fact that Hindraf is not only made of Tamil people but includes many non-Tamil and even non-Hindus.

"He (Mahathir) is wrong when he said Hindraf leaders only represent Tamil racists," said Palanivel in defence to Samy Vellu who has recently joined in the bandwagon in advocating for the release of five Hindraf leaders detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

    G. Palanivel also said Mahathir should look into "his own roots" before manifesting such statements. Mahathir's forefathers are from South India.

Mahathir is a racist. He started Malay Dilemma and fanned the hatred of Malays against the chinese. Now he is trying his best to fan racism to oust Badawi. He is a danger who should spend his last few years in Kamunting.

  8. Agree with anonymous. We are Malaysian no matter what race we are. We look upon Malaysia as our motherland, not to some distance countries. If Baron is a malay he must've look upon Indonesia or India since the origin of malays were from those country I guess.

I am fed up of commentors like Baron strawberrymunchen - sicko who's obsess or paid to attack Tun Mahathir

Anyway, what make Samy Velu or Palanivel think they deserve to make comment on Hindraf issue. Firstly they are irrelevant. Secondly, what constructive effort have they taken to sort Hindraff problem before PRU 12?

Get real, you think Malaysian are stupid?

  15. Sdr Rocky's Bru and Sdr baron strawberrymunchen,

I think Palani had to do what Palani had to do ... came to the rescue of Samy Vellu.

Palani was a good man. May still is. But the MIC/BN politics spoilt the man.
We were reporters in Bernama in the 1970s.

The Malays, Indians and Chinese of his Hulu Selangor constituency kicked him out on Mac 8 because of Samy Vellu.

Palani himself is still loved and respected by the voters. But the hatred for Samy Vellu and the MIC was too strong for Palani to overcome.

As for Tun Dr Mahathir, we don't have to worry too much about Palani's body blow.

On Thursday at the Sultan Abdul Hamid College Old Boys Association high tea in KL, Tun happily spoke about his origins.

He said had his father not "migrated" from Penang to Kedah to become the first "headmasta" of SACH, he would be a Mamak in Penang.

There's nothing wrong in being a Mamak, a Pathan or a Tamil. What matters is loyalty and service to the country.

I pity Palani. It was so near yet so far for him. It'll be a long time before MIC can rebuild itself. I hope Palani is up to the task.

As for election petitions, the real test is the by-elections. BN will throw all its might to win them and past records showed that money and political might worked for the BN unless the voters have really changed following the Mac 8 shocker.

    Thank you.

Kepada semua yang memberi pandangan mereka:

Memang tepat sekali apa kamu semua berkata.

Whether your mom or dad is from India, or from China, or from Turki,

If you are born and are living in Malaysia,

You should be regarded as apa?

    As a Malaysian.

    Tun Mahathir is half-Indian, half-Malay.

    I am half-Indian, half-Chinese.

Dua-dua pun sama, bukan? Dua-dua pun rakyat Malaysia.

Siapa bumiputera di sini? Dr. Mahathir or me, or both? I am second generation (both my dad AND mom were born on the Malaysian soil). Tapi soal ini tidak penting, bukan?

Jadi apa yang penting? Ini yang penting: kita dua-dua adalah orang Malaysia, and we love this country and all its people. We both want all its people to live a good life.

    Setuju?

Maka, let us ensure that the welfare of Malays are always looked after. Let there not any one disadvantaged or suffering Malay.

Let us also ensure that the welfare of the Malaysian Indians are also looked after. Let there not be any disadvantaged or suffering Indian.

Or Chinese. Or Orang Asli. Or Kadazan. Or Iban.

In fact, toksah lah nak beza-bezakan ikut kaum lah sangat. Betul tak? Takde gunanya, bukan? (Since it doesn't matter what Dr. Mahathir's background is or what my background is).

The grievances of all Malaysians must be heard and addressed.

As an esteemed leader, we want Dr. Mahathir to talk this way. We want him to defend the rights and welfare of the Malays... AND also the rights and welfare of all other Malaysians.

If Dr. Mahathir stands up for the rights of the Malays, I salute him. Saya setuju. I pun tak mahu melihat mana-mana golongan rakyat Malaysia menderita, termasuk orang Melayu jua.

Lagipun, are you a perdana menteri of Malaysia, or a perdana menteri for only one or two bangsa?

Apa peranan seorang pemimpin besar?

In the name of God, janganlah buat macam ini. Minyak naik, semua orang Malaysia susah. Mari kita sama-sama berusaha memperbaiki keadaan kehidupan kita. Biarlah kita harmoni dan saling bantu-membantu satu sesama lain. Toksah lah layan sangat mereka-mereka yang cuba beza-bezakan kita.

    Salam.

"Finally, someone has put it on record!"

    It was never doubted anyway.

    Saudara Baron Strawberry
