Joceline Tan and the two SILs

Update: Pro-Umno blogger BigDog as put up a posting arguing why Joceline's "insider" is off the mark for elevating KJ the "political son" of Dr Mahathir. In fact, it's an insult to the former PM that Joceline would let pass such a shallow and narrow argument by her "insider".
Read "Khairy is nowhere anything like Dr Mahathir."
Read also Zorro's take on Jostling Tan.

Original posting:

Faizal and Khairy. Joceline Tan's article today is as "happening" as Khairy Jamaluddin, the son-in-law, is in Umno's circles (her own words, click here).

So KJ and FA, or Faizal Abdullah, are so kamceng. The two sons-in-law. One the Umno president's SIL, the other the Umno Permanent Chairman's SIL.

Scandal should be Faizal's middle name. Not too long ago, he had to resign as Klang Municipal councilor. His sin? This SIL built his house without the approval of the council. Taikor. He would have gotten away with but fellow councilor Zakariah Mohd Darus had built a mansion so filthy big that it angered the rakyat and the Selangor Sultan. So Faizal had to go, too.
You'd think he'd disappear after that, tail between his legs. But no, Sir. He became bigger. His name is being linked now to the RM4.63 billion fiasco that's called the Port Klang Free Zone. The house he built without the council's approval was nothing compared with this controvesy.

I've heard so many people telling me that he was the No 1 "balachi" or "crony" of the other son-in-law, KJ. I don't know. Perhaps Joceline Tan can tell us if that's true. She's definitely close enough to tell us.

p.s. By the way, in her article in the Sunday Star today, Joceline wrote: "Khairy is being called all kinds of names on the Internet, from monyet to racist."
Where have you been, Joceline?

TNB washes hand of fire that kills 5

"We followed procedure". We've read the tragic story of the poor in the papers: factory worker Kasmuri Jasman, his wife and three kids aged between 8 and 13 died in a pre-dawn fire in Kluang, Johor. The fire was believed to have been caused by candlelight. The family had to resort to candles after Tenaga Nasional Berhad, which announced record 3rd quarter profits recently, had cut the electricity supply to their home.
Kasmuri could not afford to pay his electricity bills and that caused him his so dearly.

This morning TNB issued a press statement to say that it had given sufficient notice to Kasmuri before disconnecting his electricity supply.

I am not blaming TNB for the tragedy. Nobody should blame the TNB for the deaths. But you get the feeling of great injustice all the same. Kasmuri was not a rich man. I can only hope that TNB would care for Kasmuri's other kids and find the heart to be more caring in future. A more understanding TNB may save lives.

Son-in-law in Port Klang FTZ's fiasco

updated, with corrections:
No, not that SIL.
The son-in-law of Umno's Permanent Chairman Tan Sri Onn Ismail appears to be one of the pieces in Port Klang Free Trade Zone's RM4.6 billion puzzle. This son-in-law's name is Faizal Abdullah. [I earlier erroneously reported that he was Umno Kapar chief's SIL]. We don't know if any other family members or in-laws are involved. Malaysiakini has the scoop - Blood runs deep in troubled RM4.6b PKFZ.

Why a puzzle? Because we don't know who in the government is answerable to this debacle. We don't know if anyone is accountable. So far, the Finance Ministry, the Transport Minister, and the PM's Department have kept mum. I haven't seen any report in the mainstream media, except for the Sun and the Edge.
