Not such a David after all. Blogger Jeff Ooi has been at it for FIVE years now! And he's proven that a blogger, with limited resources, can reach out far and wide, and give the paper tigers a run for their money.
Check out his stats HERE as he pits himself head-on against some so-called media Golliaths.
p.s. Sometime this month, Jeff will be "celebrating" the first anniversary of his legal battle with one of the those Golliaths.
Health Minister admits he was on sex video clip. The first day of the new year hasn't even ended and Abdullah's Administration is rocked by its first scandal.
And what a rocker it is.
Go to Hard-T (URGENT! URGENT! Dr Chua Soi Lek Sex Scandal! and Aksi Apek Yang Ganas) blog on my side-bar for more, including a screenshot of the sex clip and pictures of the press conference in Labis, Johor, today.
The Star's sms alert:
1/1 Health Minister Chua Soi Lek admits he is the politician in the sex DVD circulating in Johor; the girl is his personal friend/STAR
I was told the clipping was made during MCA's Team A vs B battle royale but was covered up for political expediency (the same rason it's now out in the open, presumably). The YB must have thought it was all behind him.
p.s. Bernama has the story HERE that says:
Despite his admission, Dr Chua maintained that he would not relinquish his government and party positions.
Leaving behind 2007. I ushered in 2008 in the (voluntary) solitary confinement of my car. I could hear fireworks in the skies and I wondered how many millions has been blown away last night and how much more I would have to pay for a litre of diesel in the new year. It was just 70 sen when I got the Rexton not 4 years ago!
I thought back of 2007. Of the lawsuits against Jeff Ooi and I that forced the agenda for the blogging scene* in Malaysia, and which has helped redefined me as a journalist. Of Nathaniel and Raja Petra Kamaruddin. Of All-Blogs which we set up to protect and promote what we believe in.
I will remember 2007 for Bersih and Hindraf, and whenever I think of the Batu Burok incident and the people who were arrested for trying to exercise their right to peacefully assemble, I would smile at the courage of my lawyers who shook Putrajaya in their black-and-white and set the mood for the so-called street demonstrations (they are more like street strolls, not too different from - and more peaceful than - the street parties that we saw last night).
Tony Yew derailed my train of thought for a moment with an sms. He wanted to know if I knew who the politician involved in the recent sex video clip was. I gave him the name of the MCA Minister who was supposed to have been in the clip, and wondered how the Royal Commission enquiring into the controversial VK Lingam clip was doing.
Health.
Health also reminds me of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's epic battle with heart ailment. For all of you who wished me good health for 2008, I wish the best for you too.
My thoughts went to the parents of Nurin Jazlin. For me, 2007 will especially be remembered with sadness, the year we failed this little girl who was abducted, brutalised, and murdered. Her death exposed our weaknesses and our failings as a society and as human beings. It brought our cops to their knees and exposed them for the inefficient and politicized force they are.
My hope for 2008 is that Nurin's killers be found.
