Speaker quits Umno post

breaking story !!!

Dewan Rakyat Speaker to quit Umno position. Veteran Sabahan politician Pandikar Amin Mulia, the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, is said to have tendered his resignation as the Umno division chief for Kota Marudu. Pandikar Amin is said to have told some people from his Bahagian that in order to serve as the Speaker for the Dewan Rakyat, and NOT the Speaker for Umno, he would have to resign from holding any post in Umno.

His action will obviously be linked to Anwar Ibrahim's relentless efforts to get 30 or so Umno MPs from Sabah to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat in order to for the Opposition to form a Government with a simple majority in Parliament, and in order to fullfil his dream of becoming the Prime Minister.

Pandikar Amin was sworn in as the 12th Parliament Speaker on April 28. His name was proposed by Prime Minsiter Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

This is one man who is upright and has conscience. i hope more politicians like him as well as other personalities in positions of responsibilities like in the judiciary and the police will emulate him.

i hope this is the beginning of more responsible people standing up for what is right.

Enough of being lap dogs of BN or the power that be!

The rakyat should be served, not those who are in power.

    Syabas, Speaker of Dewan Rakyat.

After speculations, hints n such given by UMNO Sabah's candidates showing that they are ready to jump ship, this is the clearest yet. A move which surely not helping Pak Lah to have a good night sleep. But are we ready for the government's simplest majority since 1969?

Biasalah sebab politik kita masih lagi berasas kaum.

    mereka 67 (DAP 28 + PKR 11 + Parti-parti Sabah 12 + parti-parti Sarawak 16) berbanding
    bilangan AP Islam hanya 48 (PAS 23 + PKR 19 + Datuk Anipah + kawan UMNO 12 - )

    10. Sebab bukan Islam lebih ramai Karpal akan paksa Nik Aziz umum Malaysia bukan negara Islam

Last I hear, the Sabahans want all 25 MPs to join PR en masse.

So they are horse trading now for the remaining 8 or 9. Bottom line is there are some who will join else they get left out on the goodies. Wonder who will get what at the end of the day.

But what will the ordinary citizen and illegal immigrant get after all this? More of the same? Will the rich become richer and poor become poorer?

And Jeffrey wants to be a nominated SA or a Senatorship and Minister when PR forms the government.

Continue horse-trading fellows. And when you are ready.......just lompat! Monday is a good day as any.

Pandikar Amin did the right thing. He should resign his post as the Chief of an Umno Bahagian. After all he is a Speaker of Dewan Rakyat (PEOPLE ASSEMBLY)he must be independent. He must not be subservient to UMNO. Parliament must also be independent from umno.

Good for Pandikar. He has acted correctly. I salute Pandikar Amin. He is a good guy. Hopefully he can stand up top those UMNO bastards.

In his excitement to please Sabahan , Pak Lah misculculated and gave the job to Pendikar. Orang Iranum tiada loyalty punya!! Pak Lah should have retained Datuk Dr Yusoff Yaacub (former Deputy Speaker)!!

This is the end result if you do things without proper planning and advice!!! Just to make Pak Lah understand - if any umno member resign from any party post then he or she should notaccept or hold any government post -the spirit of "bersatu, berkhidmat dan bersetia"

  38. Dear Rocky,

I would like put forward a suggestion.

The new parliament session according to many of us is better compared to all the previous ones. But to me I find it is not up mark. It is because of the many restrictions and rules set by DR speaker upon MPs.
What is the point of restricting MPs with two supplementary questions? It would be alright if ministers provide honest and detail answers. If one could see, most of the time the answers are not specific and they just beat around the bush. I guess the SPM students would fair much better in their oral answers compared to most of our honorable ministers.
Therefore, my suggestion is why not seasoned blogger like you set up another blog especially on parliamentary matters. All questions and answers for the day could be posted on the blog so that our surfers and readers could evaluate them while posing additional questions should it require. This approach will put greater pressure on ministers and their ministries to be more prepared with responsible and detail answers. It can also serve as platform for us to criticize/praise specifically to issues than personal attacks

i agree with his actions of quitting any post held under UMNO.

however, reading the reviews from parliament so far, the speakers are going a bit nuts, aren't they?

what kind of crap ruling is that?

Rocky, don't be presumptous to conclude that Pandikar Amin Mulia's decision to quit Umno is about Anwar's influence or the growing disatisfaction among Sabah politicians.

even in the most corrupt of parties like Umno, there always can be a man or woman who has the courage to breathe a fresh wind among the corrupt-driven zombies.

i salute Pandikar Amin Mulia and his conviction to be true to the high position he has been elected to. unlike many Umno creatures, he has chosen not to be a Umno pawn.

on the contrary he has risen above the umno intimidation and captivity to demonstrate that there are still some brave good men and women among the dirty sods.

Pandikar Amin quits as Kota Marudu Umno div chief

    By Muguntan Vanar

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia has tendered his resignation as Kota Marudu Umno division chief 'in the interest of neutrality' of his Dewan Rakyat Speaker's post.

Sources said that he sent his resignation letter to party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Thursday but it was not immediately known if the Prime Minister had accepted it.

It was learnt that he wanted to remain as an ordinary Umno member.

Sources said Pandikar's decision was aimed at divorcing himself from party politics to ensure that the office of the Speaker remained impartial and respected by parties from the government and the opposition.

"It is for the dignity of the House. He does not want to be seen as an active Umno member holding a division chief post.

"He hopes to emulate the late Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tun Zahir Ismail who in his 22 years gained respect by staying away from political positions," one of the sources said.

In interview with The Star prior to his April 28 appointment to the post, Pandikar had said that he would have re-consider his position as an Umno division chief and did not discount the possibility of him resigning the post in the future.

Asked about a blogsite which stated that his actions could be linked to Parti Keadilan Rakyat's efforts to get 30 or so Umno MPs cross over to Pakatan Rakyat, the sources said it was "ridiculous and mischievous" as Pandikar Amin's resignation was specifically in the interest of the Dewan Rakyat.

They said earlier Thursday, a group of Parti Keadilan Rakyat MPs had paid a courtesy call to Pandikar and that during the meeting, he had impressed on them that he was making every effort to bring respect to the chair, including a move by to resign from his division chairman's post.

    rumour monger.
"The late Tun Zahir Ismail had never held any party post when he was the Dewan Rakyat Speaker for 22 years. So I too must prove that I'm not involved actively because I am the speaker for everyone," Pandikar said.

    Hello to all non-muslims...

"Believe it or not I'm walking on air" (still remember this song?). Just trust me, the scenario more likely won't happen as it is believed to be happened soon. Seems like I really can see from the sky...am I?

For sure everyone will asking who am I so daring to claim this, right? Yes, everybody have their own personal perceptions towards this issue.

Although I have the answer right now but no point telling you now. It will just bring us to argument for nothing. I'm not jumping to a conclusion but what I can say is just I'm so confidence with no doubt due to some relevant facts that I've observed.

A day dream will still be a day dream for DSAI as it is deserved for him.

    Just wait and see!
    Seeing is believing!

Just a hint according to Malay proverb says, "Jangan disangka air yang tenang itu tiada buaya".

Moreover Sabah and Sarawak rivers are well known of "bujang senang" so it's not as easy as that. All Sabahan and Sarawakian MP's have to be very cautious and have to think several times before crossing the river as the danger awaits for them.

It is quite interesting story but let me consider first whether this can be shared or not.

Sounds like too sensation.

Rakyat masih dibelengu masalah asas akibat percaturan politik atasan.

He has started his move for a new dawn perhaps?

The land below the wind finally rises
The bright light seems to flourish now
The frogs are croaking eagerly to leap forward
For it is the new direction they wanted to go

The Dark Vader and his commanders
Flying high in the Dark Hill
    Concentrating what to do next
The Empire seems to fall off slowly

The foot soldiers are looking scared
Fear seem to shine in their eyes
What now? Will there be our living good?
As barking orders ring in the Dark Hill

Instead of clearing the corrupted ones
The Dark Vader goes to hiring them
His immediate family members jump into the wagon
Trying to get the wealth out from the Islamic officials
Set up a company tying up with Temasek
What a silly move when wealth clouded the mind?

MCA and MIC what now for your guys?
The beggars in the coalition just following UMNO
What Gerakan advisor said you don’t reply….
    Silence means it is true…………….
So it is better to leave when you have your dignity
Break away and find your soul………….
For now it is better than begging every time

    UMNO is moving scared
The leaders are trying something unwise
    ISA, OSA and Sedition Acts
    They can’t live without it
So be very careful they want to shut you out

Now the truth is finally spoken
Jump the ship and swim to shore
Lose face never mind at least your get your soul
To live for your country and people
People will respect you for it

Warkah Terbuka Buat Saudara Rizal Hashim

    Written by Tepakbersulam

    Tuesday, 06 May 2008

    Well... Mr Rizal.....

Everyone has skeletons in their closets. When you live in glass houses, don't hurt stones at innocent by standers. When they throw back at you, you can be badly hurt. Word has it that you are no Mr Clean as you make yourself out to be .You too have a price. As much as you portray to be the god fearing individual you are,you have been a hypocrite yourself.

Then what about news that you were driving a sponsored car from a local manufacturer for sometime. Then there is also news that some sports journalist has been taken on golf playing trip to an asean destination by a sports agency. was this a reward for winning a gold medal in some sports or bribery!

What about some asking for handouts? go for the real culprits - you know who they are because you are all protecting them and they are taking care of you. you scratch my back and I will scatch yours. there is a lot more dossiers on all of you out there. keep it coming and we keep hurling back more stones.

What I mean Mr Rizal Hashim, adakala tulisan biarlah seimbang, kalau asyik menghentam saja tentu pembaca akan menghidu nawaitu sebenar anda.

Mr Rocky is this all true about your former staff

    This is very sad bro

  54. Hello Rocky Bru,

It is good that the Speaker did not want to take side.

I think not only the Speaker must not take side. Every MP should not take side. All of them should serve the constituents they present irregardless of political party. They should represent the people not the party. So every MP should quit from representing their party

    That is true democracy.

  55. The Former Dewan Speaker should be praised for his stand. Seems like KJ had just brought the 4th Floor down to Parliament.

Nevetheless, PR MPs will 'open' alot more BN MPs' eyes on their presence at Parliament as muppets for KJ. Bravo, YB Pandikar!
