Anwar Returns To Parliament

AFTER MIDNIGHT UPDATE:
Anwar: I will swear, I will take an oath ...
After a rousing victory speech in front of some 10,000 supporters at the sports complex of the Institute Tuanku Bainun in Tanah Liat, Permatang Pauh, Anwar leaned over the railing and told reporters:

"Tomorrow, I will swear ... And I will take an oath .... In Parliament!".

It must have been a line that Anwar had rehearsed many times and saved for lthat very moment when victory is in hand. The by-election he had just won was dominated by issues of sex and sodomy. His refusal to swear on the Quran in response to the oath taken by his former aide Saiful, who is accusing Anwar of sodomizing him, had rattled Anwar and the PKR for a while during the campaigning.

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang told a joint press conference a little later that the Pakatan Rakyat will insist that the Dewan Rakyat Speaker hasten the swearing-in of Anwar Ibrahim as a Member of Parliament and "... as leader of the Opposition, seated right in front of the Prime Minister."

Kit warned that if Anwar is not sworn in, the tabling of the 2009 Budget by PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi this Friday will be made to be very difficult. "There is no reason to delay the swearing-in," Husam Musa, the PAS vice chairman, said.

UPDATE
:
11.20pm: Anwar wins big -- 31,195 votes (15,671 vote-majority)
Arif Shah:15,524
Hanafi Mamat: 92
Spoilt: 447

ORIGINAL REPORT:
9.15pm: Anwar Ibrahim arrives at the tally centre where he will be announced winner of the Permatang Pauh by a bigger majority.

At the moment (9.30pm), the last portions of the votes are being counted.

Anwar is over 17,000 votes ahead of his opponent, Umno's Arif Shah. (The other contender is Hanafi Mamat of Akim)

Given that voter turn-out was lower, Anwar has won by a majority bigger than that by his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Ismail. She won by more than 13,000 votes.

A crowd of about 10,000 has already gathered here. And they are jubilant.

9.35pm: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng arrives.

(More later)

The AMNO that even defiled the name of Allah and used the wealth that it has hoarded for decades to dent Anwar was given a hard slap on the face and totally crushed. Now you know why Malaysians will not buy cheap rhetoric, village conspiracies and petty patriotism that's meant to cheat unsuspecting people as AMNO thugs steal. Well, AMNO hordes have been saying they have a chance apart from defiling God's name, how do they see it now? Great? Popular? Loved by people? Sheesh.

Hay...how comes AMNO that solely "protects" Malays against "traitor" Anwar doesn't get Malay vote? Hey...did PR cheat or what? AMNO is the sole protector of the Malays. So what happened? Hey...I forgot Ezam and Nalla, Dollah's tools. Wow...bigger one, Sayful's antics and Najib's antics of using oathing as a shield. What happened? Hey...you mean the Malays no longer buy (deleted). Is it Khairy who was buried or what? Where is he?

Congratulation to Anwar and PR. Inspite of all the dirty tricks by the BN, you have won by a landslide. The question is what dirty tricks are up BN sleeve that they are going to use against you next. The only way out is to change the government soon.

At 3 pm I predicted in your blog Anwar will get 32k, Arif 16k and Majority will be 16k.

So Anwar is qualified to be PM.

  17. Well, that decides it for me.

I'll be flying the Jalur Gemilang for Merdeka this year.

I got a free one last week, one of those small ones for sticking on cars, when I went to DBKL to pay my cukai pintu. I'd been wondering whether or not to stick it on - I've never done it before.

But now I will, for the first time in my life. Because it's been a good year for Malaysia.

Yes, despite all the shit that's happened in the past few months - there's still 8 March. And now there's 26 August.

I have faith in my fellow Malaysians now. And that's reason to be proud of my country, and my flag.

From job seekers to those applying to MRSM, colleges, universities and scholarships, tenders, contracts, etc meritocracy and equality is the way froward as far as Permatang pauh is concerned. From now on everything must be based on merit and DEB must be abolished. The goverment has no choice but to respect the decision and request of the majority.

For a start the RM 10 million that Dato' Seri Najib has promised for rennovation of places of worships must be equally distributed to churches, temples and mosques. There must be total freedom as far as religion is concerned. No restriction for conversion to islam or vice versa. All religion is the same as louded by the Penang's Chief Minister. People can preach to anyone and to everybody regardless they are muslims, christians, hindus, buddhists, toaists, pagans, etc. Let Permatang Pauh lead the way!

But this statement from the VP of PAS shows their top ppl support the Pakatan Rakyat too! it's this type of spirit that will bring a real change to Malaysia. We are Malaysia! A multi-racial country. When I was growing up, people say looks east..don't learn from the West! they are bad. But now I say..look West and learn from them! Look at the support that Barack Obama get!! He is not a white... but US is a truly democratic country! that's why!! it's time for us to learn!!!

Now that he has the platform to showcase his capabilities, we hope to see the direction he is taking the country. So far, he has been effective in organizing the street demos, accusing the authorities which do not tow his agenda, cultivating hatred in the mind of the younger generation, manipulating the people will promises, getting symphaties and support from the foreign governments and etc.
