Blogger summoned for "faking" it

update, 5pm on 30th August, 2007
Is this your blog?
Sheih spent about 90 minutes with Mazlan Othman, said to be the new head of the MCMC's enforcement division. Mazlan said the "interview" was part of the probe into Tien Chua's doctored pic but 19 out of the 20 questions that Sheih had to answer were on his blog and on himself. "It feels like they were probing my blog instead of the picture," Sheih told us over lunch. We did not eat because we did not have the appetite for food.
Sheih was "interviewed" at the Companies Commission's office in the Mall, opposite PWTC. Mazlan told Sheih that the MCMC had considered calling me in as well and that Tien Chua and Jeff Ooi had given their statements, too.
At the end of the interview, he was asked to sign and initial on 14 pages of answers he had given. He was not given a copy as that was the procedure, or so he was told.
The whole exercise came under Section 256 (2) of the Multimedia Act 1998, so he was told, too.

I told him (and Zorro and Tony Yew, who were there to walk with Sheih) that All-Blogs will need to put up a posting to inform bloggers of what they should/could and should not/could not do if Mazlan or anyone from the MCMC approaches them for an interview.

p.s. On Tien Chua's pic, Sheih was asked how he could tell if a picture was doctored.

Original posting:
Probe into Tien Chua's doctored pic begins.
Sheih, the original posterboy of Malaysian blogging, will be in Cyberjaya tomorrow morning at 11 to have his statement recorded, by the Multimedia Commission, on a picture of the DPM, Razak Baginda and a woman that was supposed to be Altantunya posted in the blogs.
The digitally doctored picture was "created" by Opposition politician Tien Chua on his blog in early July. Sheih took Tien Chua's picture, added a "FAKE" watermark on it, and highlighted it under his posting You give us a bad name.
Everyone knows it's a doctored picture. Sheih even watermarked it. So we are not sure what the Multimedia Commission will be trying to establish by summoning Sheih and recording his statement.

But some of us will be there with Sheih to find out.

  4. As suspected, em-see-em-see is established as a proxy to prosecute bloggers and any internet users who write anything against AMNO or its cronies, it's being used as a political tool to deter anything against its parties. Then it shouldn't be funded with Tax Payer's money. Please disband this farce Commission!

  5. when tian chua posted this picture, it was obvious to me that it was meant to give the viewers a pictorial glimpse of what the actual picture might look like.
I knew it was fake, tian chua knew....whats the big deal?

Cant i create an image of badawi sleeping on a mattress?

what is strange is how fast the cops react to anything anti government but will not act on the millions of other BS that the government does.

This is a blardy joke. MMC? Macam-macam can.

No wonder the sms con is still unresolved. This is what they are busy with. Who said they deserve increment again?

One thing I can tell you about MCMC, they formulate by-laws, rulings, codes and what not which they themselves are in the dark about. Hmm...having said that, perhaps this is also true for the entire government agencies in Malaysia with the exception of one or two.

As I remember it, the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 has the provision that any contention within its jurisdiction should be brought to any of the 4 forums formed by the very act itself; 2 are meant for the players of the industry, while the other 2 are:

    1. Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia - for disputes between consumers against service providers, as well as sp's against sp's.

    2. Communications and Multemdia Content Forum of Malaysia - for complaints against the contents sp's or individuals within the same context.

In this case and going by the CMA1998, this issue - if its any at all - should be looked into by the Content Forum and not MCMC.

In instances where there is an impasse - Content or Consumer - it is only then the matter should be brought to MCMC. As far as I know, Content Forum may be in the dark about the matter (that does in no way mean they are bright either).

  10. Sdr Rocky's Bru, you said:

"So we are not sure what the Multimedia Commission will be trying to establish by summoning Sheih and recording his statement."

We cannot be presumptious. I think MMC has every right to ask questions.

What assurance do we have that everybody in the MMC is IT literate and computer savvy?

Many government appointees to commissions and boards of GLCs are actually ignorant about the operations of their commissions and companies.

They were appointed because they lost the election or bacause they are somebody's good friends.

Even if the MMC is knowledgeable, their masters may not.

From recent statements, it's clear that many pembesar (VIPs) are clueless about ICT, the news websites and blogs.

Don't be fooled by their seemingly clever statements. They were merely pontificating based on half-baked information fed to them by their grovelling underlings.

On the other hand, bloggers should use such an opportunity to educate their handlers and minders.

From such TV channels as Animal Planet, Discovery and National Geographic, we learn that dog trainers and handlers learn as much from the animals they are training and handling.

Learning is a too way traffic. Only a fool thinks he knows everything. I am still learning about blogs, in particular the people's reaction to them.

Even this morning a retired editor of a mainstream newspaper told me that I would be surprised at the number of adults who are migrating from the newspapers to online news including blogs.

    Thank you.

  11. Googling for evidence, bro?

Is the MCMC 'interviewing' bloggers because of what we published or was it because some commentators have said that there is a 'real' pic lying around somewhere.

And pray, do tell us on how to respond to this.

Heck, I posted the same thing under 'Well done, Tian Chua', so am I next? Can we do a combo-interview, you and I, with each of us answering 10 Qs so as not to waste their (or will it be our) time.

  12. Rocky!

Messages from Zurich seem to me like he or she is trying to say something!
Like, we are missing the forest for the tree, or is it the tree for the forest!

We seem to forget the real issue here of people struggling to stay alive let alone to come to term with a whole family being burnt to death, and may be we can set up a fund to help the woman who had her two children died in a blaze! I will pledge RM100.00 what says you!
Actually who cares about the MMC and the thought police (I don't), ordinary people need bloggers' help, time for charity work, eh!

  13. Sorry guys!

It seems to me that this Sheih Kickdefella is just another serial attention seeker, from what I have observed! I would not pay any attention to him even if my life as a free citizen depends on his psychotic and erratic behaviour, first he disappeared than resurfaced, then an apologist to a monster, and now this!
How can a private citizen allow himself be hauled by people claiming to be from somewhere high up doing it for national security!? Hogwash! If I were him I would have hired a lawyer and then lodge a police report over this intimidation on a private citizen who has every right to critisise government policy deems a dud! Rockybru beware of becoming another serial attention seeker it does not do your respectable standing as one of the top bloggers any good
(p.s. please prevent any negative diatribe over my comment)
