The scoundrels of Semarak

Right about now, Felda chairman Shahrir Samad will be addressing a major press conference at the 49th floor of the Felda Tower in Kuala Lumpur. There will be many questions the Tan Sri will be asked about the Berita Harian front page story today:

The facts are simple and quite known though some in authorities may want them forgotten: Felda general manager Abdul Ghani Ali, appointed by Shahrir in September, lodged a police report on Dec 12 on a deal involving a company called Synergy Promenade, believed to belong to "allies" of a former powerful Felda big boss, that could see Felda lose ownership of the land.
The front page by BH is an opportunity for Shahrir to push for a closure to the scandal and demand justice for Felda and punishment for the scoundrels. It will save not just Felda's Jalan Semarak land but also the integrity of this Administration.
Felda had been hit by massive scandals after an attempt to get rid of a senior executive at FGV by the then Felda chairman Isa Samad. In Aug, Isa was even kept in remand by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to help in the investigations into massive graft. He was released after five days.
In Sept, the MACC said it was wrapping up the probe into Isa and Felda and would send in its papers to the AG Chambers for the next course of action.
Isa was detained for five days by MACC in August

APPs: Necessary or just another IMAMS in the making?

Arriving in Malaysia to be more expensive soon, in the name of homeland security
Kudos to the Government for canceling a plan to charge Umrah pilgrims from Malaysia RM90 for nothing [Zahid: Cabinet not told Imams would be outsourced). Imams, it turns out, is just someone's ploy make a lot of money in the name of religion. Or was it tourism?
Never mind that, there's an equally mind-boggling scheme that's about to be shoved down our throats. It's called Advanced Passenger Screening System. APPs is a scheme to charge inbound passengers a "token" sum, this time in the name of homeland securityMy sources say the Cabinet approved this project recently and a company awarded the concession, which is for a period of 15 years. Was there a tender? I'm not sure but what I know is that the project implementation cost is in the region of RM8 billion. Who's going to pay for this? Answer: Malaysia's inbound travellers.  Which means that with APPs, each person flying to Malaysia will have an additional US$5 or RM21* only (to be added on to their fares).
Is that fair? Mavcom, the body that regulates economic and commercial matters related to the country's civil aviation, should be able to tell us.
But if you ask me, this smells Imamsy. We have one of the best homeland security records in the region already. There's no need for something like this, honestly. - Dec 19

* Small compared with Imams' proposed charges but Malaysia eyes 94 million inbound passengers by the end of 2017, so you do the math ...

PAU 2017, a quick recap (Who said it was an utter disappointment?)

Don't field the mulut celupars at GE14, Najib
SOMEONE told me yesterday he thought last week's Perhimpunan Agong Umno (PAU) was a waste of time. I disagreed. I thought the speeches by President Najib Razak and his deputy Zahid Hamidi were substantive. Khairy Jamaluddin's one played to the gallery quite well too. So the party's wings did not want a contest for the No 1 and No 2 posts come the next Umno elections. So what? That has been the norm ever since Ku Li challenged and nearly defeated Dr Mahathir in 1987 but, as in Umno's tradition, there's always the compromise in lieu of a contest if God wills it.

But what won it at the General Assembly, to me, is this one:

KUALA LUMPUR – December 6, 2017: Many Umno members do not want their party to field those who are ill-mannered as candidates in the next general elections.
The common belief is that it would be a costly mistake for the party to field such candidates as their less than proper character could cause the people to find Umno objectionable.
“We don’t want our party to be represented by foul-mouthed people… they are the ones who cause Umno to lose votes.
“With Pribumi Bersatu touting themselves as our counterpart in the opposition bloc, Umno needs to showcase itself as the good guy,” said Saad Hussin from the Ayer Hitam division in Kedah.
“Our party cannot do that (be seen as the good guy) if it is represented by obnoxious candidates,” he remarked.
The crucial need for Umno to field likeable candidates was stated at the ongoing general assembly by party number two Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi at the opening of the three wings last night.
Zahid had admitted that it is difficult to find candidates with such a quality as they will most likely become victims of jealousy and subjected to unnecessary internal politicking.
Another party member, Awarna Palil, said it is important for the leadership to choose candidates who are well-versed with the nuances of today’s youths.
“Convincing youths to vote for Umno is something that senior members like me have trouble doing because of our generation gap.
“Even more so if we are campaigning for a candidate that youths regard as too old,” said the 63-year-old single mother from Tebrau.
When asked if there is any Umno leader that fits the criteria of being a winnable candidate, Puteri member Siti Khairunisa Jamil named Sungai Besar assemblyman Budiman Mohd. Zohdi.
Budiman won the Sungai Besar by-election last year by a whopping 9,191 votes, a significant increase from the 399 won by the late Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon in the last general elections.
“He (Budiman) may be 45-year-old but his Selangor Young People Secretariat (a non-governmental organisation that Budiman chairs) is quite popular among especially the underprivileged youths in Selangor.
“To me Budiman’s victory in Sungai Besar proved how important it is for Umno to have a candidate who is not out of touch with the people, particularly youths who are the biggest voting bloc in the country,” said Siti Khairunisa, who is from Sungai Besar.
Saad and  Awarna also named Budiman as an example of Umno’s likable candidate.

Now, I thought this was a smashing shot  at quiet a few Umno bigheads who think it's their birthright to be fielded in any general election they choose to contest.

"Super smart" Neelofa is AirAsia board member!

Even Tony Fermades thinks she's super smart

Ah, and I had just mentioned Neelofa in my latest posting Different Icons, Different IQs. Here's hoping she remains level-headed and keeps her feet always on the ground (not in the mouth like some icons do).
Fight for a cause, Neelofa, don't cause a fight.
Congrats, Air Asia!

Different Icons, Different IQs

Food is expensive, ringgit is weak ...
From Sheila to Neelofa
I have come to believe that what Sheila Majid wanted to do, actually, was, really, to champion a cause. Like a lot of Hollywood celebs have been doing. Unfortunately, her tweet the other day on soaring cost of living came out all wrong. She came across as unduly critical of a government whose policies have actually helped improve the people's welfare, especially those in the lower-income bracket.

And, unfortunately times two, her tweet was used by Mahathir and Co as proof that "yet another icon has spoken up (against the Najib administration)". Cheap shot, but they have nothing to lose in trying to bring down this government, so why not?

Pro-Najib supporters were also unnecessarily harsh towards Sheila, if you ask me. Like a seasoned journo wrote in her FB, the jazz diva may be all-class when she sings but she ain't that smart. That partisan politics is ugly and manipulative is probably beyond Sheila or the likes of Siti Nurhaliza and Nur Fathia Abdul Latif, both of whom have also recently put their feet in their mouth in their attempts to be political.
Candidate for Pekan at GE14?

I say let those celebs who want to rant on their social media do so. But their managers must do their job and tell their stars that they can actually champion a good cause without looking silly or, worse, stupid. Or without being partisan (unless, of course, they have political ambitions) because that will surely isolate a lot of their fans.

If Sheila is concerned that her fans are spending too much of borrowed money, advise them to be thrifty and to say NO to their desire for what they could hardly afford (like the iPhone X which, incidentally, has become the best-selling iPhone model despite the nearly RM6k price tag, so much for and Sheila's complaints about the government and rising cost of living).

Sheila doesn't have to be super smart to give a good advice and because she's an icon a lot of people will listen to her if she's got something good to share.

Pro-Mahahtir or anti-Najib?
In any case, I'm not too concerned about Sheila or Siti Nurhaliza or even less so Fathia because I am not a fan (I did buy Sheila's album Legenda in the early 90s because it of P. Ramlee's songs and I had never heard of Fathia before this). I am Awie, Amy Search, M. Nasir and, of course, Ramli Sarip kinda guy. I dig Joe Flizzow even though I am not into rap. And am forever in awe of Ella and Yuna, too.

We have more than enough icons who are smart, who constantly fight and who speak up (but not to please the old political gods) ...

Moderate but firm

And then there's Neelofa, an icon who has not only made the tudung fashionable but has continued to make tudung affordable (despite the expensive food, weak ringgit, high cost of living, etc etc). Tak bodoh, tak sombong dan tak bodoh sombong ...

Icon, both sides now

Umno and Jerusalem

THE Prime Minister has been known to bide his time before making up his mind. Some say he's indecisive; others call him meticulous. But on US President Donald Trump's shocking move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Najib Razak didn't blink an eye.

At the Umno General Assembly this morning, he wasted no time in setting the Malaysian agenda on Jerusalem: Malaysia will never accept Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
"As Umno president and Malaysian prime minister, I call upon all party leaders, delegates and members here and out there, wherever they may be, to stand and express your stand with confidence ... so that the world will hear the voice of Muslims in Malaysia, that we vehemently reject the proposal to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital for all times".
Those expecting the Prime Minister to be coy because this concerns the most powerful nation on Earth are mistaken (What say Najib on Trump's Jerusalem's move?). Trump may regard Najib as a "good friend' and vice versa but the US President won't have Malaysia's support on this. Over the next three days, the Umno general assembly will set the Malaysia's biggest political party's agenda on Jerusalem. Barisan Nasional's other component parties will no doubt pledge solidarity on this, just as they have done over the years.

It would be interesting to see if Pakatan Harapan will follow suit. The Opposition's interim PM-designate Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a champion of sorts for the so-called developing countries of the South, for Palestine and South Africa, and for Bosnia during his 22 years as PM. But in cahoots with the DAP, who is known to have a different view on some of these issues (PKR-Amanah, PPBM membisu isu Jerusalem Jubilee sebab DAP, dakwa NGO), Dr M may have to sing a different tune.

If he did, it wouldn't surprise too many people. But let's hope that won't be the case. We need to be united on the Jerusalem issue.

Felda TAK Bangkrap rupanya

The defaming front page from June 2010

PKR's husband-and-wife bosses Anwar Ibrahim and Wan Azizah Ismail may blame karma. First, the decision by the Pakatan Harapan elders to name Dr Mahathir Moahamd, the man who sacked Anwar accused the then DPM him of sodomy, among other things, as the Opposition's Prime Minister-designate in case, just in case, the Opposition wins the 14th general election, which is due before mid-2018. Same elders also proposed Wan Azizah as interim DPM but PKR has requested to defer a final decision (fear that in the interim, an interim may send the other to jail, perhaps?).

There was that little something to gaze the sky upon when blogger Papagomo was ordered by the court to pay Anwar nearly RM1 million in damages. But, as it turns out, there won't be any early Christmas celebration as Wan Azizah was told yesterday to pay RM2 million to Felda, whose settlers are traditionally BN diehards, for defamation. 6 Dec 2017

Blogger in Malaysia pays Anwar Ibrahim close to RM1 million in damages!?

The Star's report
BEFORE anyone gets any ideas, let me assure you that bloggers in Malaysia generally don't have this kind of money. We are basically unemployed, liars, cheats and female. The only ones on my blogroll who may be rich enough to make you richer if you win a lawsuit against them are Najib Razak and Dr Mahathir Mohamad. And they are not really bloggers, at least not like the rest of us, if you know what I mean.

Last words on Ku Nan's "slow learner" gaffe

Ain't over yet?
"It would seem that to be a politician and a so-called leader in this party, you must first be an ignorant moron. Students who enter UiTM are no different from those entering universities and colleges all over the world. Some may need more help than others but that is why universities are there. Taught 17 years in ITM where I witnessed the great transformations that education can fire in students. Taught elsewhere too, here and other countries. Have never been but proud of what became of my students in ITM. Universities and colleges can redeem the worst of learners but only wise voters can save the nation from the stupid and the moronic who would happily slander a population to stay in power." - A former ITM lecturer*

Isunya mudah sahaja. Terlajak perahu boleh diundur. Terlajak kata buruk padahnya. Apakah isu ini meletup kerana; 1. Ucapan disalah tafsir.

2. Teknik berucap yang silap.
3. Tersalah terminology “slow learner”
4. Tidak pandai mentafsir atau;
5. Cakap tidak pandang kiri dan kanan.

Pokoknya para alumni marah. Mahasiswa UITM marah. Ibu bapa marah. Warga pendidik dan pekerja UITM marah dan orang Melayu juga marah. Padahnya pada kerajaan yang memerintah.
Mungkin orang akan tanya, kenapa saya tidak defend. Hati nurani saya menjawab “kan elok minta maaf”. Semoga tidak berulang lagi kerana jumlah alumni UITM melebihi 500 ribu** orang.

Pokoknya Institusi Pengupayaan Melayu ini perlu diperkasakan lagi. Perhimpunan Agung UMNO 2017 perlu membahaskannya. - Mohd Puad Zarkashi MT UMNO

* The former lecturer made the remarks at a public digital forum. I believe his are fitting last words to close the Ku Nan gaffe. Nonetheless, as former Deputy Education Minister Puad Zarkashi's views show, not everybody in Ku Nan's party think or behave alike. The Umno General Assembly 2017 happens on Dec 5-9 and if Puad takes it up at the Perhimpunan, then the "slow learner" issue isn't over, not just as yet.

Ku Nan says sorry

HATS off to Ku Nan, the self-professed foul-mouthed politician, for saying sorry and for acknowledging that he should not have used those words. Takes a gentleman to own up. But, please YB, mind your language, anyway (and that's not really a request).
Kudos to the UiTM Alumni and student reps who did not allow emotions to rule but instead offered to go over to the Umno Sec-gen and FT Minister's office to level with him and avoid a potentially messy spat.
You give a new meaning to "slow-learners". - Nov 28

"Slow learners" meet "No-learner" today

Ah, and what did I tell you h e r e yesterday?
Before the end of the day, Ku Nan will tell the UiTM grads and students that he didn't mean what he said about the "slow learner" bit, that he'd been taken out of context, and blah, blah, blah.

There you go:

You can read the full news h e r e .

Well, I also wrote that the Minister's excuses aren't important. What's important is how the UiTM alumni leaders and student reps, who are to meet Ku Nan today, deal with anyone who thinks he can insult the institution. I hope they take the opportunity to show Ku Nan what they're really made of. - Nov 28

You are the reason why "orang marah Umno", Ku Nan

Quiet anger of UiTM graduates

I wasn't the least surprised by Tengku Adnan Mansor's stupid remarks; this is the sort of rubbish one spews when one is brain dead and long past his expiry date. Read my older posting Tengku Nan's dead to understand where I'm coming from. That was a decade ago and he has not learned anything!
People are not angry with Umno; they have been angry with some politicians in Umno. Some of the politicians they were angry with have been sacked and some recently left the party to form other parties in the hope of regaining power. But there are the likes of Ku Nan still around and still holding significant positions in government since then (when Dr Mahathir Mohamad took them, including Ku Nan, in) till Pak Lah's time and now with Najib Razak as PM.
Even if he hadn't run down the 720,000 graduates that ITM/UiTM has churned out (and the 165,000 students currently chasing their papers in over 30 campuses throughout the country), Ku Nan was already that rotten apple in Umno. Residents from Datuk Keramat to Taman Tun Dr Ismail have been up in arms against his "projects" over the last couple of years. A week or so ago he finally felt he'd better meet the residents of TTDI who are fighting to save their Rimba Kiara but his address, to no one's surprise, did not go down so well (The day Ku Nan allegedly Lied to TTDI residents - The Mole, Nov 26).
Before the end of the day, Ku Nan will tell the UiTM grads and students that he didn't mean what he said about the "slow learner" bit, that he'd been taken out of context, and blah, blah, blah. That's not important, especially when dealing with a repeat offender. What's important is the future. Ku Nan is obviously keen on contesting in the coming GE and at this point, in my humble slow-learner opinion, he is Umno's least winnable candidate. He's that bad apple that will spoil the whole bunch. - Nov 26 2017, Puchong

Syed Hamid is Mahathir's latest weapon against Najib, really?

Syed Hamid Abandons Najib, now supports Mahathir

Puchong, 20 Nov: It's one of those things you read and you don't know whether to laugh or to cry, to be sorry or to be thankful.
I can only guess Syed Hamid Albar must be feeling very lonely and missing the political limelight. But if that's the case, let me assure you that the feeling is NOT mutual.
As Home Minister during Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's premiership, he was described as "a failure and a non-performer" by a member of his own party. Syed Hamid was the Foreign Minister who in 2003 threatened a Malaysian journalist who was covering the Iraq war with a lawsuit for an article that he said was a personal attack against him and his ministry. He was also the Cabinet minister who in 2008 ordered the detention of the Sin Chew Daily journalist under the now-abolished Internal Security Act "for her own safety".
Syed Hamid should save his breath and us Malaysians the trouble. Given his record, he is one of the least qualified people to talk about openness and freedom. If Dr Mahathir Mohamad or his people really think Syed Hamid is useful to his campaign to bring down Najib, I wouldn't know if I should cry or laugh ...

Proverbial dogs in Penang floods

Updated with views by others:

Original article:

Azeez "Putera": From Rohingya to Pulau Pinang

KL, Nov 14: When it was clear that the floods that hit Penang early this month were severe - very severe - the DAP's political foes (i.e. Najib Razak-led BN) did the admirable thing of restraining themselves from politicising the issue.
They could have hung the DAP State Government out to dry, condemn them for being irresponsibly ill-prepared for the inevitable [yes, inevitable, because all the signs were on the wall and the State Government ignored them!].
Instead, those BN fellows came to the distressed DAP politicians and their PKR sidekicks with help, supplies, even moral support. And they did so unconditionally, too. We saw photographs of DPM Zahid Hamidi and the PM himself going to the ground to meet the flood victims and the sorry Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng
Najib even asked all parties to stop politicising the Penang floods. "... the focus now is on helping the people," he said on Nov 5.

But the nature of ingrates is such. Ibarat melepaskan anjing yang tersepit, as the Malay saying goes, sudah lepas ia menggigit

Dr Afif Baharuddin, a member of Guan Eng's Penang State Exco, is one such proverbial dog.

Aliff
Perhaps because the worst of the floods seems to have passed, the PKR assemblyman and Youth leader is bent on turning it into a political circus.

So, he's accusing that:
1. flood relief for Penang had come three days late supposedly to coincide with the PM's visit.
2. the National Welfare Department failed to "stock up" the Penang state's Welfare Department in preparation for the monsoons.
3. one Federal Minister of paying in cash at a supermarket RM1 million worth of aid and supplies for the flood victims!

Most of all, Aliff wants to know where his counterpart in BN Abdul Azeez Rahim got the money to help the flood victims in a big way. Who is funding Kelab Putera 1Malaysia?

"Don't tell me it's an Arab donor," he said, in an apparent swipe at Najib's RM2.6 billion donation from an Saudi royalty.

What the hell is wrong with this dude?

Guan Eng is dua kali lima, if Berita Harian's report yesterday is anything to go by. Read Tiada bantuan kerajaan pusat, [No aid from Federal Government].

YB Salleh Said Keruak, the Multimedia and Communications Minister, had warned us of such dogs, actually. In When politics come before the people, which he posted on his blog on Nov 12, the Sabah BN strongman said some politicians put the interests of their party above the people's; in other words, they are in politics not to serve the people but to attain power.

"We get involved in politics as a means to seek a better Malaysia. And this means we need to put the people above politics," Salleh said.

Give it back, it's our rights, Air Asia tells Mavcom

Kamarudin
TTDI, 10 Nov: You hardly hear Tony Fernandes' long-time business partner Kamarudin Meranun whine about anything. Least of all in public. The AirAsia X group CEO's complaint in the media about the Malaysian Aviation Commission's move to give Malindo two traffic rights to Bangalore that AAX had "battled and fought" for, therefore, has got people talking.

Was Mavcom unfair to have given the two slots to AAX's competitor, when AAX - not Mavcom nor Malindo - was the one who had gotten the Malaysian government to negotiate for those extra flights with the Indian authorities?

It sure looks that way from where Din's coming from:

“We battled and fought to get those additional slots, but now it is being allocated to another airline that is not even using them,” Kamarudin said in Air Asia questions Mavcom over Bangalore flight slots - The Edge Financial Daily.

To its credit, Mavcom responded to Kamarudin immediately. The same Nov 7 Financial Daily quoted Mavcom as saying that it allocated the flight slots or air traffic rights based on criteria set out under the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015, with key considerations including the effect on consumers, the industry and public interests. So in the case of the Kuala Lumpur–Bangalore route,  it allocated 360 seats to Malindo Air and 24 seats to AirAsia in June. Following these allocations, Malindo Air operates 360 seats, AirAsia 744 seats per week, and Malaysia Airlines 1,920 seats.

“This translates into approximately two times weekly for Malindo Air, four times weekly for AirAsia and 12 times weekly for Malaysia Airlines. Mavcom’s rationale for the allocations performed in June 2017 include: widening the choice for consumers by granting two weekly services to Malindo Air as a new entrant on this route; and facilitating competition and preventing excessive market dominance by any single carrier,” said Mavcom.

I can see that Mavcom is going strictly by the book in trying to be equitable. Be that as it may, Kamarudin has a point. If Malindo isn't planning to use those slots, Mavcom should give them "back" to AAX. It's only right.

Kepala Bapak Kau, no apologies needed

Puchong, 7 Nov: When even Khairuddin Hassan came out to slam Najib Razak's  "kepala bapak kau/bodoh" outburst, it shows how effective the Prime Minister is in reaching out even to those deemed as far beyond redemption.

For Khairuddin is, to many followers of Malaysian politics, the quintessential Mr Bangang. No, not because he is stupid but because he is so fond of calling everyone and anyone who disagrees with him or his politics bangang (which is another of the great many Malay words, such as bodoh, bebal, baghal, bingai,  to describe stupid). This is the same man who published* the "50 Dalil ..." book 20 years ago, which was used by the powers that be then to sack and jail his Deputy,  but who today hails the still-imprisoned Anwar Ibrahim as a hero!

As for Najib's outburst, I agree with Salahuddin Hisham the blogger. Make no apologies. Najib should start calling a spade a spade.

Even the young ones at our office, who had always thought of their Prime Minister as so sanitised and sometimes robotic, especially when delivering his speeches in Malay, were excited. They were having a ball playing the same video clip of the kepala bapak kau outburst over and over again. The PM's human, after all!

I must admit this "new" Najib is a great and welcomed departure from the usual guarded, immaculately-scripted, boring manner in which he's come to be know when delivering his BM speeches at official functions and Umno gatherings.

Just don't call anyone bangang lah, Mr PM. Mengamok Khairuddin kita nanti!

* Khairuddin recently vehemently denied being the publisher of the 50 Dalil book. Oh, well ...

Lawyers: No ground for subjudice in Ambiga's RM90 million dubious role in UK court case

Bangsar, Nov 3: A couple of fellow lawyers are calling Ambiga S, a former Bar Council president,  a hypocrite for "invoking the doctrine of subjudice" to save her own butt in an on-going case brought against Clare Rewcastle-Brown by PAS.

Lawyer Zaki Azmi told the Mole:

“It’s odd that she (Ambiga) deemed it subjudice for her to deny or confirm Clare’s claim, given the fact that she is not bound by British laws and the ethics of the legal professions over there.
"The way I see it, those in Malaysia are free to openly discuss the case until, if and only if, Hadi decides to transfer the case to a Malaysian court.”

Aidil: It wasn't subjudice for
Ambiga back then
Another lawyer Aidil Khalid recalled that when she was the president of the Bar Council, Ambiga had taken the position that the rule on subjudice should not override the right to discuss matters of public importance.
“It’s her attempt in wiggling her way out from confirming or denying what Rewcastle-Brown had claimed in her statement of defence.”

Ambiga has come under mounting pressure to own up to her role in getting Sarawak Report to write a commentary piece in August last year that accused PAS, once a partner in the Opposition Pakatan Harapan coalition, of selling out to Najib Razak and BN for RM90 million. She has refused to do so, citing subjudice and contempt of court.
A lot of Malaysians are hoping PAS will next sue Ambiga to clear its name of the RM90 million bribe allegations.

Now, who will Ambiga throw under the bus?

Updates
Bersih distances itself from former chairman - The Mole
Ambiga keeps mum - The Malaysian Insight

Original piece

“Ambiga had told the defendant that her sources, whom she said were reliable, had estimated the amount that had been paid was around RM90 million," said Rewcastle-Brown in her court filing dated 11 Oct  - Sarawak Report editor names Ambiga as source: Report

Desperate, Clare throws Ambiga under the bus
Puchong, 31 Oct: Clare Rewcastle-Brown's confession, in a British court, that Ambiga Sreenevasan was the source of her so-called news report on PAS leaders accepting bribes from PM Najib Razak must have made so many Malaysians' day.

Seasoned journalist Nuraina Samad's Muahahahaaaaaaa ... response to the confession is one fine example.

Malaysians have known all along that Sarawak Report was pure online BS. We just could not prove or did not know how to prove the BS.

Now, Clare's confession is the only proof we'll ever need!

And what poetic justice!  The confession was made - had to be made - in a British court. So much to thank Tuan Guru al-Hadi for having the gumption to take Clare to the court - in her own backyard - to clear his name and expose Sarawak Report as nothing but a fraud.

What shocked me, as a journalist, was the fact that Clare had actually pointed the finger at Ambiga, her Deep Throat. I have always thought that these western journalists would protect their source at all cost.  Maybe Clare is a new breed of western journalists! Or she was extremely desperate.

As one commenter in Nuraina Samad's posting so aptly puts it, "... they are throwing each other under the bus"

We now wait for Ambiga to throw her "reliable sources" under the bus.

Muahahahaaaaa!

p.s On a more serious note, Clare's admission brings to mind the police reports recently lodged by our Attorney-General against blogger RPK for his postings in Malaysia Today. Like Clare, RPK is also biased in the UK but the two are NOT on the same side where Malaysian politics is concerned. You can read about AG vs RPK it in my previous post h e r e. Things seem to have quietened down a bit, though, after RPK's climbdown in Part 3 of his Strong Rumours Surrounding the AG series but the police have started their investigation.

Thursday, October 26, 2017

It's official: Malaysia's Attorney-General lodges police report(s) against RPK

Puchong, 26 Oct: So, Apandi Ali did not listen to my advice. I wrote h e r e the AG would be wasting his time if he goes after RPK, "whose views these days are said to represent the views of some people close to Prime Minister Najib Razak". Well, to each his own!

I can't blame Apandi Ali for going to the police. He has got the integrity of the Attorney-General's Chamber to defend. And his own good name to protect. By going after RPK, Apandi is saying that he does not believe that RPK is on Najib Razak's side. If RPK is, he should not be attacking the country's Attorney-General, he should be attacking Najib's enemies, instead.

An old journalist friend called me to find out "what the hell is the problem". And like how old journalists are, he did not wait for my reply. He gave me his 2 sens' worth instead:

"Here's Najib Razak trying to make things work, overcoming obstacles after obstacles as the BN nears the most crucial general election this century, preparing to table probably the most important Budget of all time ... and all these jokers who call themselves his spin doctors are interested in is flex their muscles to prove who's bigger and stronger by bullying and attacking everyone, including the AG, in the name of defending the PM?

Well, what can I say? Najib's enemies are licking their lips and rubbing their hands, with glee.

And because of all this, Khairuddin has officially become Khairuddin "Bangang" Hassan in my book.  I was quite fond of him but this Khairuddin has the habit of calling everyone who disagrees with him "bangang" so he might as well have it his middle name lah!

Someone asked me if it was true that the AG had no authority to set up the taskforce.

Me: "Am sure the AG knows the law better than RPK [and Khairuddin B  Hassan]."

Apandi Ali vs RPK and Khairuddin (there's Azeeez in there somewhere, too!)

No need to sue RPK lah, AG

Bangsar, 24 Oct: Re AG Apandi Ali's task force (Who, or what, does Apandi's task force serve?), I expected one side of the political divide to express reservations. Because that's how things usually work in this country. I did not expect BOTH sides to violently protest the move.

I certainly did not expect Malaysia Today's RPK, whose views these days are said to represent the views of some people close to Prime Minister Najib Razak, to launch such a vicious attack on Apandi. (Read Strong rumours surrounding the AG Part 1 and Strong rumours surrounding the AG Part 2). So offensive were RPK's attacks that Apandi truly offended. The AG reportedly lost his trademark composure and has threatened to sue the Malaysian blogger in England (Apandi threatens to sue Raja Petra "till kingdom comes").

Khairuddin: AG ignorant of
 process of law

Former Umno man Khairuddin Hassan's opposition towards the task force is more palatable even if his reasoning is rather odd. The Mahathir Mohamad loyalist is suspicious of Apandi's motive and speaks of a conflict of interest and suspects that what will happen is that Apandi will declare that the task force, after investigating the claims against the MACC boss, finds that there is no case ...

"Apa motif Apandi Ali?! Dia nak kata 'tiada kes' setelah menyiasat sepertimana kelazimannya!!" Khairuddin Hassan: Kenapa Peguam Negara pula kalut tubuh panel has siasat Ketua Pesuruhjaya Suruhanjaya SPRM?! Ianya ada unsur "Conflict of interest!!"

If you ask me, I'd say surely Apandli Ali is doing something right for operatives on both sides to be against him on this issue!

Now, I am against the AG resorting to legal action to silence RPK because RPK will not be silenced. Lodging a police report to intimidate RPK will also be useless because RPK will not be intimidated. Trust me, Also, the AG has other more pressing things to worry about. If it's any consolation, look at it this way: if RPK does represent the PM or the PMO in some way, then surely most people can see that this means that the AG is only acting in the interest of justice!

The AG should not be losing sleep over Khairuddin, either. He should not feel hurt or insulted if Din calls him bangang because Din calls everybody who could become his political foe bangang, anyway.

What Apandi should do is to go ahead and get his task force going. The integrity of the MACC is at stake, which cannot be defended by RPK or Khairuddin but by proper investigation. And if the task force finds there to be no case against the MACC boss after it has conducted its investigation thorougly, so be it. And the sooner the AG makes that happen, the better for everyone.

The worst thing that the AG can do, of course, is to make a U-turn. We have enough of that to last us a lifetime already ...

"Expect the battle to get nastier unless Najib steps in."

Oh-Oh...
