A night picnic. The Alliance of Bloggers' 100 Days (since the General Election) event last night was fun.
YBs Nurul Izzah, Jeff Ooi, Loh Gwo-Burne, Ronnie Liu helped make the evening happen. YB Wee Choo Keong came late due his "kawasan" commitments earlier, but he did keep his word.
YB Mukhriz Mahathir surely made a difference, being the only Barisan Nasional MP present. His response to the interrogation by Gobloking, a Malaysian blogger residing in Madagascar, impressed many.
Raja Petra Kamarudin came to the party straight after nearly three hours at the Sentul police station, where he was interviewed on the Statutory Declaration he made.
Engku Emran, the Suria FM boss, rode in on celebrity wife Erra Fazira's Harley; we are hoping that both will start blogging soon. Entertainment bloggers who turned up included Vernon and Sultan Muzaffar.Tony Yew and Yatie's skills at auction were a revelation; they collected some RM8k that night.
But what's very different from previous events the All-Blogs had done at the Blog House was the presence of corporate friends and sponsors. Air Asia chairman Aziz Bakar, LG's product marketing manager Kyung-San Park, and Robert Ho from DiGi were among those present. The event had the support of Scomi, Iskandar, TM, Celcom, TNB, Air Asia, LG, and several other companies and individuals that wished to remain anonymous.

JUST ONE QUESTION.
ReplyDeleteWhy Scomi ?
K.J.
Wow Era Fazira...
ReplyDeleteI am Impressed.. Ahh should have stayed longer.
Since you already have bloglist for socio political blogs, business blogs why not make a list of entertainment blogs..
Bila tak speechy sangat, baru lah best ...
ReplyDeleteWhile you all are having an enjoyable nite, a friend flew out from KLIA to Paris, London and there at the First Class luggage counter several bags of a VVVVIP Woman is taking a long trip.
ReplyDeleteHow I envy the life of a blogger.
ReplyDeleteWrite whatever they want, no proof or evidence needed.
No action can be taken against them.
Sponsored by powerful corporations (some are the same corporations that were chastised by them).
Supposedly blogging for truths and for the interest of the rakyat.
Be merry and jolly while the rakyat suffers.
Life as a blogger sure is fun! Hurray bloggers!
congratulations for your whatever....
I strongly believe that there should be an alternative group (or "non-alliance") of bloggers, separate from this one, for the sake of balance. This is important for a number of reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe existing blogger's alliance has a small number of dominant bloggers who draw in the bulk of Malaysian readership. That these dominant bloggers hold a certain, common, political inclination/view, or sympathise with or favour certain interests cannot be ruled out. As a whole, then, the general view espoused by the alliance could be effectively biased, even if in the aggregate the alliance consists of numerous other bloggers with diverse or counterbalancing political positions/views. In other words, there is asymmetry in the power of pull of the bloggers in the present alliance, and some of these popular/leading bloggers may hold a certain common political position that can colour the understanding of a disproportionately large number of Malaysian blog readers.
It is therefore not unreasonable to have an alternative group of bloggers who are not members of this alliance, but who are still characterised by some form of organisational definition. This non-allied group could serve as a check and balance, an additional bulwark for the interest of the rakyat.
One way of differentiating this loose, alternative group would be for non-allied bloggers to have some code of ethics, for example, to be more open or clear about their social/political/economic positions, if they blog on issues that touch upon the welfare of the rakyat such as governance. At present, there is a deafening ambiguity in the social and/or political stand of a number of influential Alliance bloggers who blog extensively on socio-political issues. They may ostensibly purport neutrality, but this we know is something that is neither possible nor true. This can be seen as irresponsible.
Hence, my call for an alternative group.
Thank you.
After this must mubahalah.
ReplyDelete"The event had the support of Scomi, Iskandar, TM, Celcom, TNB, Air Asia, LG, and several other companies and individuals that wished to remain anonymous."
ReplyDeleteSo many GLCs?
and SCOMI?? you mean like, THE SCOMI, the one owned by the PM's son? Sponsoring a blogging event?
Hmmmmm.
Scomi? Air Asia? heh heh...wah...CSR in action...
ReplyDeleteWaaa...Rocky....I did not know Nurul and RPK were there!
ReplyDeleteBut never mind..there is always other chances to meet them....face to face.
Hope the pocket watch was auctioned out!
Smart lah all you bloggers.
ReplyDeleteTake money but no commitment to refrain from hantam them corporate.
All orang UMNO please learn from bloggers.
Take Dolah's money but don't give him the pencalunan and vote.
Get rid of him!!!
Scomi- and Air Asia-sponsored??
ReplyDeleteKoyak-lah Blogger's Alliance.
We can see how vested interests are beginning to send in their tentacles.
Don't tell me Blogger's Alliance cannot find other means of finance.
Many major environmental NGOs get massive funds from and survive from non-corporate sponsors/foundations and individuals whose interests have no conflict with their aims and goals.
Hence I'm not impressed.
The excuse that "the public didn't chip in any money, so we take from corporate sponsors lah" doesn't work. That would be an evasive excuse. The rakyat my be poor and is grappling with inflasi, but we managed to chip in together thousands for RPK's bail money when he was arrested. But you guys don't even need thousands right?
So don't even begin to tell us that you cannot get financing from sources other than Scomi et al.
Scary development.
That Pak Sako fella above seems to have hit the nail on the head!
Rocky
ReplyDeleteYou have to admit that we the Rakyat all are fed up with the sodomization issue. Let us all face it, but so long that the incompetent and impotent Leadership at helm, Rakyat will continue to suffer.
I know you will agree with me on this! Worst still the Leaders do not even considerate to use Cover or "KONDOM" to make the plight of Rakyat at acceptable level, for example Fuel Hike 30sen instead 41%.

ReplyDeleteYou bloggers,
ReplyDeleteYou are going in the way of MSM editors, surviving on corporate sponsorship. We know editors are close to corporate leaders. But it is disgusting to see you guys mingling with the big ones.
Sorry lah, I don't subscribe to this. It's disappointing. This is how the corporate bigwigs operate. Next will be free trips overseas/junkets. Air Asia will give Rocky a free trip to a MU game and 5 days stay. Some MSM editors have gobe for that.
Then you become obliged, being the nice Malaysians we are.......
Stop it before you get drawn into this"vice"...

Mr Bru
ReplyDeleteI"m Not a Jurno, Editor, Former PM son or daughter, nor their friend nor foe.
I dont feel just because a few of those closely link individuals called for a 24 hrs boycott, everyone is should jump too it....
Now, how bout raising funds for the guy who wants to sell his kidney to feed his family.... wouldnt that be a start - helping people... bloggers could start a New Chapter
Come On, Mr Chun wai, lets do some good for a change, imagine 5 million ppl contributing a dollar or 2, huh, ini baru shiok buat
I'm sure we can raise millions and fend for our unfortunate ones, get rocky and rest of the gang, apa macam..... Mr Chun Wai, kita buat Miracle
Tuan Matjerman,
ReplyDeleteYour comments prompt me to share some of my views on the matter at hand. Bloggers who write nonsensical stuff about the nation and its people won't last. Bear in mind too that the blogs are the writers own space. Most write what they feel. Some are rationale. Some are emotional. Some write only to please themselves. You too can have your own blog.
All-Blogs is an association, mind you. Having corporates sponsor some stuff like food and drinks won't change or influence their writing. Tuan Matjerman, if bloggers are to be bought, and their writing be influenced, it'll take more than food and stuff! And that too is not a guarantee.
Bloggers have their reputation to care too. The likes of Rocky, Nuraina and a few others are people whose veins are filled with printers ink, not blood. Both could have been filthy rich and probably live in London or Australia if they had succumbed to all the temptation when they were editors before. And they would have been far more influential then (today they are no less influential as bloggers).
But your concern is not without merit! It's good to express them. Lets have more of it. Bloggers are not in it for the money my friend. It's the passion mostly. Thank you.

Dear former editor,
ReplyDeleteI suppose you didn't know that Tony Fernandes and I have known each other even before he gave birth to Air Asia.
During the airline's formative years, the Malay Mail was supportive of Air Asia as it was clearly the underdog.
Sometime after I became a blogger,
I started to be critical of Tony and the airline. I thought they were not being fair to Malaysia Airlines at times.
We've remained friends. There were times when he was hurt by this blog's criticisms but I try to be as constructive as I can.
During those years I have never asked for or been offered free tickets to fly anywhere.
In fact, former editor, I have never ever flown Air Asia.
if I were to take advantage of my friendship with Tony, who knows ... I might have been chairman of FAX today instead of Kalimullah Hassan.
Thank you.
P.s. And thanks Sastrishah, I couldn't have explained it better to Mat Jerman.
folks,
ReplyDeletei cant help but to agree with mat jerman and few others. I thought the get together was over a cup of coffee and pingpong biscuits.
my outlook on these bloggers surely has changed.
wtf.
I sniffed a rat in the pack. Hmmm......Of all people, Mukhriz Mahathir? He could be the man behind the current mudslinging in our midst. Hmmmm...who knows, with all the money and the people behind him. Hmm....Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteBro,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link for the pics. Was trying to scour for more than what I've shot.
Food's good there since there's a signature dish made by Gus.
Good to see a gathering from both sides of the political spectrum. Wish I was there but you would probably not recover from my language in telling you what I think.
ReplyDeleteWhat lah, apart from Jeff, all of you need to do something about your abs. Maybe the food and oil crisis will make you walk or bike more?
We need not only a healthier Malaysia up there, we need a healthier Malaysia down there too.
Looks like EVERYONE was there.
ReplyDeleteDidn't anyone invited KJ?
Everytime there's a gathering...I'm out of the country....dang!!! May be next time then....eventho..I'm not as famous as those listed there....my main aim is to kick PAK LAH out!!!!!!!!!!! Cheeshhh!!!
ReplyDeleteTahniah kepada bloggers, siapa taja pun tak kira, sapu je..semua terbeliak tengok duit atau nilai duit, berbueh kritik, tapi bila part taja, belanja, sapu...
ReplyDeleteInikah bloggers yang menyedarkan rakyat, mungkin depa ikut kata RPK, ketepikan fahaman politik masing masing untuk bersantai macam tu..
Memang betul, bukan semua bloggers, anti scomi, tetapi yang anti, atas sprinsip pun pi jugak..
Jadi, kalau bloggers bertalam dua muka,..

Rocky, inilah masa awak buat duit banyak banyak..kluangman
Salam,
ReplyDeleteJemput le sekali model-model GT Sepang sekali bro, sudah tentu saya dtg. Hahaha..., Btw tahniah, berjaya juga buat perjumpaan tu.

Haris Ibrahim is the true Malaysian swashbuckler. Brains, style, guts, love and grace.

Dear rocky,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for the celebrations done and for the bloggers too. Hopefully with this events will encouraged more people and bloggers in blogging.

Go Pak Sako go... my thoughts exactly...i do think that bloggers play on the side of truth but i don't think it is an intrinsic quality.....Afterall, even Samy Velu was known as Hero Malaysia once a long long time ago.... when the game changes, so does the playa...
Dear Rocky,
ReplyDeleteYou can't win, can you?
Looking at the comments, I am amazed. When did we become such a cynical and bitter lot?
Wanda
looks like everyone from who's who was there.
ReplyDeleteBadawi & najib should have been there. That would make all blogs 100% tulen and halal.

Bro,
ReplyDeleteI can see many who attended the gathering are happy and exhilarated evidenced from their big smiles. i really hope that this gathering is not only a celebration of foods.
i believe readers would like to know what has been achieved from this gathering.
bro, please update us on the outcome.
Brunt council said it best....
ReplyDeleteThe point is this. All Blogs, if seen by some that we are 'leaning' toward a certain allingment of political belief, is totally a misconception (the idea, not the alliance) If you were there, you would be able to tell that on either side of the fence, bloggers remain, err well, bloggers!
We meet , we share points, and notes, but yet we write differently. We articulate our points, as we see it. Honestly? If that does not suit the reader, then go start another blog, and put your arguments across.
Most of us practise what we preach, that is to express our views and that of our readers freely. (unless those who provide nothing but hate speech)...
Its even more clear that these corporations are embracing blogs to showcase their efforts in accepting that sometimes, they too need to be 'exposed'.....unlike a certain Airline that claims that they are practising more CSR yet they go ahead to advocate abortion!
We have a saying in Sicily: Keep friends close, but enemies closer.
ReplyDeleteThat explains SCOMI, Mukhriz, etc.
Godfather
suprising because mukhris also attend and this event is supported by scomi.
ReplyDeleteare the bloggers close to them or to viewers
zamri bandar sunway semenyih
lol...scomi also sponsor u guys...wah lau! no wonder...:D
ReplyDeleteRocky,
ReplyDeleteIt's not your integrity that I question, as you have proven to be impartial MOST of the times. But it's that of the corporations and corporate leaders that is in question. I have learnt to believe in the age-old adage "there's no such thing as a free lunch." We saw the MSM being bought over slowly but surely and ended up being dictated by the big players, especially those linked to the 4th floor boys.
PS: And I would been happier if you had been the chairman of fax...
Former editor
What I've personaly witnessed that day is a gathering of Malaysians having a light event of makan, chit-chat and overall a fun event regardless of your race, religion or political party.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to All-Blogs for a successful event!
Fuhh... Scomiiii...
ReplyDeleteCamana tu, Kamaluddin Abdullah Badawi kawan rapat Rocky jugak kah, macam Tony Yang Berkroni? Khairy tak join?
Gempak. Berselimut dengan musuh.
Taiko mau tanya: mana perginya prinsip?
Dear Rocky,
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, people made the common mistake of thinking they OWN your blog.
We are of course not impressed with this overt display of "buddy-buddy", because as the saying goes, "justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done".
But we also think people shouldn't over-react.
What would RPK's fanatics think about this "smooching" with UMNO leader?
Sigh

Rakyat mahu jawapannya.
Well we can't win 'em all.
ReplyDeleteLook, the Alliance of Bloggers... is just that, and alliance of bloggers.
An Alliance of ALL BLOGGERS. From both sides of the political spectrum (well, there are many sides actually).
We were there to get to know the MPs and such while raising funds for All Blogs - a nonprofit organization which functions as a meeting point of bloggers and provides support whenever necessary.
We invited MPs and guests from UMNO, PKR, DAP and PAS but sadly some had other commitments.
All Blogs is still in its 'infant' stage and we are planning a major event for the development of Bloggers in this country. This needs money.
We accept cash contributions, corporate sponsors and such. Those of you who said that just because we accept money from the very corporations that we 'bang', means that we are 'bought'. Think again.
Bloggers have their own lives, we don't depend on corporate sponsorships to make our living. In fact, we work for FREE. Unlike some MSM editors who become 'obliged' (as mentioned by former editor)
Not all our sponsorship requests were entertained. These corporations decided to give us money. Do we say no? Of course not. It is not bribery. We say thank you, acknowledge them, and move on. Thank you very much. Try to look at things from a more positive perspective. Like wanda said, "When did we become such a cynical and bitter lot?"
If your opinion of bloggers has changed because of our 'smiling faces'. That's too bad. This was an informal gathering of people from all walks of life to interact, grow and express differing opinions.
Mat Jerman, if you envy the life of a blogger... be my guest. You think its a bed of roses? That speaks volumes about how much you know about the life of a blogger. You know zilch, my friend.
If you have questions such as "Why Scomi? Why AirAsia?" Well ask THEM. We requested for sponsorship, it was their decision to part with the money. And you know what?
We thank them for their generosity.
We need to grow and mature as bloggers and citizens. We may have differing opinions based on our experiences and values but we are able to sit at the same table, air our views and still remain friends.
Rocky, you loser!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should not call yourself Rocky! To me, Rocky as in the movie was a fighter, n u certainly aint one, stop calling yourself Rocky!
Bernard Khoo or Haris Ibrahim deserve the title better! And of course our beloved RPK!
Maybe like Wong Chun Wai, u ought to be given the title Datuk!
Wow.. just look at Nuraina. She looks yummy even in a grainy the pic. hehe.
ReplyDeleteBRO,
ReplyDeleteBILA PULAK BLOGGERS NAK ORGANIZE SOLAT HAJAT, TAK PAYAK SPONSOR, PI KAT MASJID ATAU BERHALA / GEREJA UNTUK AGAMA LAIN. FREE AJE.
SOLAT MINTA DI BUKA DAN DI BERSIHKAN HATI PEMIMPIN. ITU AJE. TAK SUSAH NAK ORGANIZE NI.
MAKE SURE TAK DA PARTI POLITIJ INVOLVE. AJAK MUFTI PERLIS.

ReplyDeleteIt's rather ironic that you are promoting the event when previously you boycotted the same medium.

ReplyDeleteyea yea yea...whatever.

Alah, leave Rocky alone lah.....why making so much fusslah these people...rase nak bace, bacelah...tanak bace, menyakitkan hati dan tak sesuai dengan selera...janganlah bace!
ReplyDeleteHe got his own views also what...cant please everybody...yang orang kasi dia burden messiah tu apsal...whatlah...
it is sooo hilarious the way people are treating some bloggers like Haris, RPK esp like some deities who are above reproach and wrong and saviors of humanity...ridiculouslah...!!!
ReplyDeleteSnap out of it lah people! Really.
I could not make it as my grandson {4 days old had to be warded for jaundice}.
ReplyDeleteIn a way I am glad I did not as I would have been particularly disgusted re: the sponsorships.
One very prominent Corporate, who sponsorsed & was there, had on 06/03/08, publically condemed the new young opposition candidate{who won by a landslide & who was present at BlogNite} and praised the incumbent{who lost} BUT was there a public apology thereafter. Nooooo! Behind closed doors perhaps! Another Deal Making!
We , the public , get set up by these parties and it seems like the "influential" bloggers are beginning to evolve into the same mould! MONEY TALKS BULSHIT WALKS!
I remember at the earlier BogNite at Subang, faithfully I banked my RM30/- ,e'd & texted the banking{two weeks earlier}.Yet on that day, my name was not on the list! No apologies at all.Till today I do not get even one notification, news etc from THE ALLIANCE!
Ah! But I am a nobody, a non descript blogger, a non influential person. BUT hey! I have lots of information & documents about so many matters!
So, Rocky my younger friend, do not go into a tizzy and rant & rave & go on strike! Please u & marina sounded very childish!
The bloggers have their cyberspace.
If shit is thrown at us, we duck & give it back!
I know first hand how one can be set up.
I know first hand how evidence can be planted, twisted & forced!
The truth & not perception{as AAB states}is that after some 20 odd years when we were happy soaking in the "success", we allowed ourselves to become corrupt & to loose our souls.
Then 1988 happened! Then the Tsunami happened. Then 2007[late} happened. Then March 2008 hit us.
We have evolved and claimed back our souls & spirits!
The LORDS are no longer in a position to buy us !
So please,please, u bloggers,harken to the Renaissance!
Chiao!

Kepada Me... Only Better:
Sekian.
Dear Rocky,
ReplyDeleteI am very happy to see my comments get posted. And I am also happy to get some further comments on my comment.
Well, as they say (or as Spiderman says), "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility". I agree with the comment that readers dont own your blog. I, myself, is an avid reader of your blog and never at any point do I feel that I own this blog.
Maybe you have underestimated the power of blogs and their influence over readers.
At this time and age when the mainstream media are so very clear propagandist tools for those in power, the common folks have no choice but to rely on blogs for their everyday feed of events from a more balanced perspective.
At this time, with the current megalodrama politicking bullshit that is happening in our country, the country needs heroes to inspire them.
This country needs gallant warriors that are willing to bring the light to the dark.
You, my dear Rocky, is one that is perceived to hold the light. Whether you like it or not, you are (or perceived to be)
I am sorry but you are a celeblogger now. And thus, it puts you in the spotlight.
In search of heroes, people turn to you. In search of truth, people paste your URL.
Thus, it is confusing to see you mingle with the very people that you had negatively portrayed before this, sponsored by companies that are well known to be from the dark side.
It gives confusing messages.
However, i understood after reading your previous articles, on Scomi.
http://rockybru.blogspot.com/2006/08/setting-record-straight.html
I truly understand the need to cari makan and I truly understand the need to jaga standard. If I were in your shoes, I too would be in an awkward position to refuse sponsors.
Thus, lets agree to disagree and hope you keep on writing from the heart.
However, I admire your openness to publish things that are easily debatable that others would have shied away from. In this, you have the Rocky aura, I guess.
R-A-H=M-A-N(NAZRIN)= PM !!
ReplyDeleteLONG LIVE YM NAZRIN ! (stcin)
Rocky
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pictures and comments from bloggers; you are a BIG man with big buddies.
I understand that temptation is even stronger and you may not able to stop yourself from eagerness for Datuk ship, but try to be objective and independent as far as possible to stand up for what you believe.
The country at the moment is full of crap, lies, and bull shit but that doesn't mean you have to play part and join the crowd.
You may wish to get follow your consciousness as the truth will make your life more meaningful with respect.
Think about it!
I was told the pocket watch fetched RM1750. That's good! Quite close to RM2k ..I suggested.
ReplyDeleteTotal money collected.. RM8k??
This means the watch contribute 20% of total sum collected. BROVO...to monsteball....hahahahahaha
I really did not know RPK and Nurul were there. No one gave me a hint.
Must find a way...to meet Nurul.
RPK will be easy..just wait for him...to get arrested....and I will go...lend support..carrying Lipton Tea...his favourite drink...pass to him...and introduce myself.
