Real fuel-lamak!!
Effective midnight tonight, petrol will be 78 sen higher for every litre.
Diesel RM1 more for each litre.

When Abdullah became PM, a litre of diesel was 78 sen, or thereabout. Now its 4 times higher.

  2. I support the price increase. I praise Pak Lah for his courage. It is a dirty job, someone has to do it. This shows Pak lah intend to take the hit and be a fall guy for Najib.

The RM50 billion is simply unreliastic and cannot go on.We need the money for development projects for the rakyat.

The RM 600 plus rebate via road tax is a masterstoke, so clever based on the principle that the more you used, the more you will pay. if your use basic car is like "Kancil" type, then the rebate will be enough be for the price hike.

For those who cannot afford, then you are not "qualified" to drive. You are a loser for not earning enough. Good for motorcycle only.

"Singapore Petrol more expensive than ours"...hahahahahaha LOL. What gullible folks we are.

Singapore is only a small country with a very good and efficient public transportation. They don't really need to spend that much on petrol in comparison with Malaysians. The only time they spend more is when they come visiting Malaysia.

Hahahahahahah....and they use OUR Cheap Petrol. HAHAHAHAHA.

Please lah don't compare with Singapore lah.

this is what we get when we allow an incompetent, moronic government led by bodowi to mismanage this country because they (he) is too bodoh, malas and corrupt to manage the economy with some modicum of efficiency, creativity, integrity and economic feasibility. what we have is a bloody statistics-101 failure of a PM who graduated in god-knows-what-crap running the economy as if it were his (and his family's) own savings account. i am so disgusted by this most recent episode of robbing-rakyat-to-pay-bodowi-and-gang that i hope when this mofo and his entire family and all their umno-fkrs perish one day, that they will all be fuel for the bonfire that they will surely languish in for eternity!

I fail to understand your logic.

Could you please explain how the govt can afford to pay out RM50 billion+ YEARLY in fuel subsidies?

At the household level, we learn to live within our means, and save for a rainy day. If we live beyond our means, and keep on running up debts, what is the recourse? Bankruptcy or loan sharks?

Yet we have no shame or qualms in asking the govt to spend beyond it's means. Because subsidies cause the govt budget to be in deficit. And if the govt is perenially in deficit, it's credit ratings are downgraded, it's currency is weakened, investors demand better yields on Malaysian govt bonds and the IMF hovers on the horizon as a lender of last resort.

Anwar Ibrahim and the collective Opposition can demonstrate until they are blue in the face, but confront them with economic fundamentals and they are forced into abashed silence. And that goes for all the economist whizzkids advising the Opposition.

You have raised the question of petrol prices in other countries.

In Singapore, petrol prices are around S$2.30 (RM5.29) a litre. In Singapore, all grades of petrol are taxed by the govt, at about 40 cents (RM0.92) a litre.

So, even if petrol in Singapore is not taxed, the pump price would still be around S$1.90 (RM4.37) a litre.

In Malaysia, after this increase, petrol price will be RM2.70 a litre. And it appears that Malaysians will get a discount of 30 sen a litre on the market price for petrol. Which means, if I understand it right, that Malaysians will be paying RM2.40 a litre for petrol. Versus RM5.29 a litre in Singapore.

A good bargain for Singaporeans, yes?

If we use Singapore as an example, where free market pricing applies, and where petrol is not subsidised by the govt, can we assume that petrol prices in Malaysia could trend upwards to around RM4.37 a litre (before factoring in taxes) when price controls are fully removed in August?

Note also that in Thailand, petrol prices are around US$1.22 (RM3.92) a litre. In India, petrol prices are around US$1.19 (RM3.83) a litre.

Thailand and India are both poorer countries (in terms of per capita income and per capita GDP) than Malaysia. Yet their petrol prices are higher than that in Malaysia.

The Opposition conveniently ignores these facts.

Let's not even mention the UK, where, in London, the price of unleaded petrol is about RM7.36 a litre (of which approximately RM4.18 goes to the British govt in various taxes).

For the people to accept the price increases, the Barisan government must set an example. For instance they should stop wastage, stop prestige projects. Projects like sending a joker to space to enhance our standing in the world should be scrapped. Ministers and aduns should set an example and eliminate profligacy. So far the Barisan idiots have not been doing that. That's why the masses will not accept the price increases.

  17. Bro,

Naik, Naik, Naik dan Naik lagi. Bukan saja harga minyak naik. Tekanan darah rakyat dah naik. Yang belum naik tu naikkan darah anda. Ni masanya kita sebagai rakyat untuk bertindak. Kita pilih kerajaan yang mampu untuk terus lindungi kita. Nak ubah hidup macam mana? Memang dah sederhana pun. Rakyat boleh ubah lagi. Boleh. Bukan tak boleh. Tapi ingat, apabila orang semakin tidak berbelanja, ekonomi tidak berjalan. Ekonomi akan runtuh. Inilah pengubahan yang Pak Dolah mahukan? Pak Dolah is not improving the situation but is sending us all to hell. Ayuh bertindak biar Pak Dolah malu untuk mengaku dia pernah jadi PM. Biar KJ tak mengaku dia dia menantu PM. Kita akan bagi malu kepada dia orang sehingga semalu-malunya kemaluan.

Did more calculations in my sleep.
Petronas's Fins YE'07 shows Net Profit of RM46.4 Billion. Our populations as at July07 is 27.17 Million (Dept. of Statistics - http://www.statistics.gov.my).

Kalau ikut cerita P.Ramlee (Ali Baba Bujang Lapok - 'satu untuk aku, satu untuk kau') we each should be getting RM1,708 in our pockets from the Net Profit earned. Are we?

From statement in regards to the new restructuring, subsidy this, subsidy that, flour this bread that... total SPENDINGS by the Government would be around RM18.7 Billion. Apply the 'satu untuk aku satu untuk kau' theorem... that would give you and me not more than RM688 per head.

I think we should be getting more of something don't you think. I'm sure PETRONAS will be earning more this year.

Can some mathematician, statistician, politician or the other 'cians' correct me on this.

Simple logic: As an exporter of fuel, how can fuel price increase hurts us? WHY? WHY? WHY?

that is because Petronas is not the only one that sells petrol. Petronas has to pay subsidise to other company like Shell,Esso,Caltex...etc to maintain at the RM1.92.Let's say the original oil price isRM4.00/litre(assumed),Petronas has to pay rm2.08 to all petrol sold at the station and not to forget Petronas is earning less because the price hike.

Pakatan wants to slash allowances for its wakil rakyat.

    What about BN?

Dont just advice rakyat to be thrifty. It's not as though we are spending lavishly. In fact we dont even want programmes such as Angkasawan carried out as it brings little benefit to the men on the street.

Somebody suggested a reduction of maybe 50% on toll charges. Also EPF withdrawal for NGV tank. I totally agree

I think it's good. Now there are fewer idiots zooming around causing trouble for other motorists. People drive more slowly and have fewer accidents. Also I only spend RM30 on petrol each week and now get back more than 40% of my expenditure. Thank you Pak Lah!

Tell government use inflation and unemployment formula to calculate.. It will hurt lots of consumers. The firms must set the minimum wages to Rm1000 for the basic. And government must play the monetary and fiscal policies in economy.
